Cats do this as a sign of affection. It comes from when they were kittens feeding from their mothers. Kittens instinctively know to knead the mothers udders (i think thats the right term here) to help stimulate the milk flow. They then form a habit of doing this to anyone they form a loving connection to. You'll notice them purring deeply when they're doing it too. If you've had enough cats, you'll see them do this to people even when they aren't laying down.

I used to have a cat that would lay with her back paws around my face with her butt a few inches away and then stretched all the way down to my groin. She would lay there and warm me up and purr for about 20 minutes then go off to her bed on the side table beside my bed.

DEVARMONT7 my neighbors husky killed my cat while she was sunbathing in our back yard. I'd known this dog for years and he always tried to jump our fence. Well the one day he found a way into our backyard, the first thing he did was kill Dutchess. I went to try and make him drop her and he growled and bared his teeth at me. So I got a shovel and slammed it against the fence and it scared him and he ran away into the street. Instead of apologizing, the owners moved away. Obviously not their first rodeo with this issue. I've never fully trusted a dog since then. You can train them but sometimes in certain breeds that prey drive can't be overridden. They can mean well and only want to play but are still very capable of killing. I love visiting my friends dogs but would never own one.

bee pot ur dumb if you think dogs are more harmful to society than cats. Sure dogs attack and cats defend, but most cats are pure assholes while most dogs are nice and human-friendly. Sad that one dog changes your whole view on all of them. Your damaged and you need help. Dogs are waaaaaay more loveable and cuddlier than cats, by fact. Statistically proven, dogs like that can help you live longer and less stress-free lives.

Bonus Baby - I was thinking the same thing. It looks like both the cat and the dog enjoy each other’s company. I grew up before the Internet, so I had NO idea that dogs and cats could be such good friends. About 25 years ago, a family moved in across the street from my house. One day, I saw their HUGE muscular dog sitting in the street (no through traffic on that street, so the dog was safe). I had just driven home from work and the dog looked at me like he would kill me if I made a wrong move. As I sat in my car wondering what to do, a cat started walking towards the dog who was sitting at attention, not taking his eyes off of me. I was thinking “Oh no! That dog will EAT that cat!” Nope! The kitty walked up to the dog and rubbed herself against the dog’s chest and wrapped her tail around him! The dog just sat there at attention, looking at me. I SLOWLY got out of the car and went inside - the dog making sure I made no false moves. When I met my new neighbor, I told her the story, and she said that her dog and cat slept together every night. I had serious respect for both the dog and the cat after that. If a dog could be BEST friends with a CAT, he must be a very good dog.
