Years ago my cat started urinating on the floor and running around hollering. Online I saw she had symptoms of urinary tract infection and prayed about it. Later the word “iron” inaudibly came to me. I just guessed how much to add but she has been fine since for years.

Maya's eyes are still clear and her fur looks quite pettable and she's alert. So keep mushin' on her and enjoy her for however long she has, hopefully years.

Guys what excellent pet parents you are! Maia is very fortunate to be part of your loving family! When my Senior Siamese Matthew (1991-2012) was about 18 he developed hyper-thyroid and reduced kidney function. He did not do well on the meds the vet gave us at all, so I improvised his treatment. Essentially he received only canned cat food treats with meat, or chicken and lamb I cooked for him to which I added some purified water. Then he quite fortunately accepted infusions of subcutaneous fluids, which I learned to do myself and it was “ringers lactate” or “saline drip” like you hear them prescribe on Soap Operas or ER! We did this 3 -4 nights per week. I hung the bags from the window cranks in my living room (anything for Matkat!) and he did quite well until nearing his 22nd birthday. Of course not every cat will accept things that hurt them, and he was unique in that way. One thing to keep in mind is that as well intentioned as vets and techs can be, NO ONE knows your pet better than you! So do rely on your intuition and your mental profile of Maia (and her siblings) if you suspect something is not working! I do not mean to lecture in any way, just offering things I know from experience with two family cats who surpassed 20! Lost my cat a few days ago to chronic renal failure. He was our best friend so it's been difficult. He was only 7. I hope Maya continues to feel better 💕

Today I learned my Melody, 20 years old calico cat that looks like Maya has kidney failure. I am devastated, the vet told me she has around 2 months of life left. Hope she lives until she turns 21 the 10-th of February 2024. ❤❤
