Dr. Danni choking up talking about how much those people at Vet in The Park love their animals and how it was a situation of a homeless man and his pet that got her into veterinary medicine was very sweet. My dog has been through a lot with me, especially when she was a puppy. It was the kind vets who do their best to keep costs low, that she has been able to have a wonderful life, well, I hope she feels she has a wonderful life. Treats, snoozes, and 3 people that she loves and they love her. An $80 vet bill with them would be $300 at vet a mile away. I love my vet clinic anyways as they are very understanding of my dog's anxiety and do their best to get us in and out.

I am more of a dog person but the truth is if you don’t really care for cats you just probably haven’t met the right cat there are so many types of cats out there and their personality traits tend to get generalized as well as many people allow their cats to indulge in behaviors that they shouldn’t when you meet a cat that’s been raised properly and has a great personality it’s really just kind a like having a dog now again I do lean more towards dogs but there’s a large variety of reasons for that also this comment isn’t just directed strictly towards you it’s for anybody who may come across it :)

@@ELNS97 when I said I'm not really a cat person, I meant it! I catch the local feral cats and take them to animal control. Cats are the equivalent of a small ecological DISASTER on the other wildlife. They kill not to eat but just got shits & giggles. And please let's not discuss the dizzying array of transmissable diseases the damn things carry.
@douglasgriffiths3534
@douglasgriffiths3534 3 года назад
@@tamaracalderon3184 I'm sure you'd change your tune if you ran into a pack of feral dogs. Both cats and dogs need to be kept on their owners' property, and not be allowed to roam and wantonly kill. I live out in the country, and there is a pack of feral dogs roaming around. I shot 3 of them after they got onto my property and started chasing my mini horses around. So don't think dogs are innocent angels. They kill too, and also carry diseases. (Jan Griffiths).
@tamaracalderon3184
@tamaracalderon3184 3 года назад
@@douglasgriffiths3534 if there were feral dogs roaming my neighborhood, they would end up at the same place as the cats. If someone wants a pet, it should be treated as you would a toddler. Had a rather heated argument with a neighbor over his complaint of people going too fast on road while his cat was crossing😵... Anyway, I totally agree with you about feral dogs, as well. People are usually responsible for those packs because they dump Fido and he finds friends... My biggest peev about the cats is the fact that they use my front landscape beds as litter boxes... Its expensive to replace the mulch every year. And the males have decided to mark my hedges... Found a mamma and 3 kittens in the groundcover a few months ago... Point is, feral or loose cats are a menace. You want one??? KEEP IT INSIDE!

I certainly know how Kate feels, and I often think that any of us involved in the Veterinary professions often have it a bit harder as we are so well aware that many dogs never let on that they are not feeling well until they are so sick they just cannot go on. Sadly, this often means that if we are not suspicious of any little thing we could miss something until it was too late so we tend to worry and that can often take a bit of the edge off of just enjoying some of the time we often have with our pets. My closest friend was a brazilian mastiff we sort of accidentally rescued and literally from 6 weeks of age we were connected at the hip and he was an expert, partly because his breed is bred to work until they drop, at hiding anything that did not cause him to keel over. One day, when he was about 6, while I was playing with him, and play was often the way to sort of get my hands on him really well and feel for lumps and bumps and odd things I notice just a bit of a yellow ring starting in his eyes. Up until then he had had no real health emergencies other than a slightly enlarged prostate that we had not been able to determine after ever test and imaging we could do had any cause and while we had it checked every 6 months just about every specialist I spoke with had reached the same conclusion, that it may just be a breed specific thing given that the breed is not common in our country but where they are more common they were known to have larger prostates than other breeds of the same size whether they were castrated or not. Yellow/brownish rings in the eye are often a symptom pet owners do not notice, but definitely can be an early sign of jaundice so we were off to have that checked out. He actually ended up at the emergency/specialist clinic and they were able to pinpoint the problem and its was as shock, stage 4 maybe 5, Lymphoma and this bouncy , happy active mastiff was actually at death's door. Even with Chemotherapy that was started immediately, they were not giving him very high chances of every even extending his life by a few weeks. In most cases, chemotherapy in canines is not quite as bad as that for humans, mainly as in human medicine we look for a total eradication of the cancer and a long term remission so drugs and treatment is always a great deal more harsh. In a canine the hopes are to just extend life with some good quality, and even a remission is often not that that will last exceptionally long. Often, the goal is just to get the dog feeling good again and get them somewhere near a normal lifespan, which in dogs is still great deal shorter than humans. To many, a dog as big as a mastiff, and mine was 160 pounds, lifespan would be about 8 years so that would have been the ultimate goal. For this guy chemo turned out to be a bit rougher due to his size as his oncologist ended up having to consult with oncologists treating humans to come up with a chemotherapy protocol that would meet his weight requirements. So the first few weeks of chemotherapy he had just about every side effect that humans have and we had such a problem controlling his vomiting after each weekly course of chemo over the first weeks he kept getting in trouble from dehydration and I was having to give him IV fluids, which he could at least have with me at home and not have to be hospitalized for and stressed out even more. He actually got pretty decent at diagnosing his own need for fluids and would lumber up and lie down in my bed and holdup his leg that was the one that usually got the catheter placed for fluids (or still had one placed). But he slowly got better and in week 13 of 26 he actually was found to be in remission. Given the animal, and the oncologist it's not unusual that once in remission they will stop Chemo to see how it will go, with plans to restart if the cancer returns. Given that Lymphoma remission can be deceiving and teh cancer can remit while still hiding in the lymph system or bone marrow until the chemo is stopped and then come back even more virulent we decided to go through with the whole 26 week protocol. He remained in remission and we were exceptionally lucky to have him still in remission 5 years later. Although he did have a run in with having to have a spleen removed because of a side effect of chemo that apparently set it in overdrive, and while his white counts were normal, the spleen decided to start killing off red cells long before they should be. So he had to have that removed and be on some more medications for a while to get that all straight but he actually went on to live until nearly his 16th birthday when, out of the blue h went into liver failure which cause could never be found, put given his age was probably just age related. Given that we had him around for nearly 10 years post cancer, in some ways that was even harder to say goodbye.

Our poor dog that we had for 11 years passed away on Christmas day and she was our baby. She was more my husband's baby when our kids where little they come home from kindergarten and my son would always lay down with our dog I even have pics of my son sleeping on our dog my sons head rested on her and my dog would stay in that position until my son woke up. Then 2 yrs ago we had a house fire and no one was home luckly someone heard her barking and they kicked in the front door and my dog got out. That stranger saved my dog. But after the fire we became homless and lived in our car for 9 months. She made it threw the cold and therew the heat with us. We finally get a apt we been here for 3 months and she has a big yard but we notice a week ago her stomach kept getting bigger so we don't have any money and we called every vet in. The 50 mile radius to help us and no one did so our children found out our dog had passed away on Christmas day and I been looking for another pup to help the grave process but to adopt a dog is 375.00 and up. We can't afford that but our dog that passed was the best dog in the world ... I will miss her dearly.

In 2019 he suddenly got to were his back legs wouldn't allow his to walk right. He went down hill. Listhisability to hold urine, so had to put male doggy diapers on him. About 4 months later he passed away while laying out in the sun. My son was awfully upset.. I was too since I'd had him 19 years. U cant really replace a dog . When mychildhooddog passed away while I was out of state; once I came home I went thru several dogs trying to find that connection I had with her. Took me over 6years to find anything near it. Best of luck to u and ur family. I hope time will ease ur pain of loss.. Bless u and ur family hun.

Omg those piglets are too cute, I had a pig (as a child growing up on my grandparents small farm, and when they killed him I became vegetarian despite all protests and if they tried to force me I hid meat in my pocket or threw it under the sofa for the cats etc). Still miss him. At least he thought me what my "food" was. And I am forever grateful for our fun times and for his tragedy helping me to stop eating meat / my friends. Now I'm a happy vegan since many years. I'm also scouring my plant based foods from local small growers and it's amazing, especially compared to the fruit n veg from large supermarkets that often lack flavour n have way too much unrcessy wrapping. I just bring reusable containers and buy anything from spice and almonds, veg/fruit, to my daily beans or lentils loose weight👍 sadly I live in a flat...so can't have a pig 😔

Build a run---we did. We have 3 cats, plus 2 that have to live outside because they were positive for leukemia. I wish they could join our other cats, and I do make sure they have food, water, and shelter. They're both fixed, so really don't leave our yard. Might build a separate run for them this spring. I have cats and I take them to one of the Cat Hospitals that are all over the States. I've been to vets who 'don't care for cats' and there was no empathy toward my cats at all. I had one who talked on the phone with his girlfriend the whole time. It was just for their yearly shots, so I allowed him to do that and then let him have it. I certainly wouldn't trust them putting a cat under anesthesia. Open a dogs only veterinary.

My cat is amazing when his vet gives him a tablet, a little angel, but when I try, NOPE! My cat turns into a kitty demon from hell! It's so bad that I have to give it to him in liquid form if available, and mix it in his food. Can't even hide a tablet in a treat or his food, he's not stupid! Lol.

Did anyone notice on Cleo the cat's case, the monitor originally said "DOG" at the top, and then later in the show, it showed "CAT"? I have to wonder if that contributed to the original problem, the system wasn't properly calibrated for a cat.

That must have been the most dangerous and costly abcess draining ever.. Seems like a major income generator for the practice. Never have any of my vets used an anesthetic--a dangerous decision, as we saw here-- to drain an abscess, just a simple scalpel and syringe to wash it out. Then some simple antibiotics. I would have been very upset with both having my pet placed in danger and the price tag.

How about putting all of them together and then removing the pups one by one ? The difference in the readings will give us the pup's weights, without upsetting the mum as much ? Calling all vets to evaluate my suggestion.😂. Thanks for taking care of these piglets ?
