Cat Stevens certainly produced a lovely arrangement of this song. The lyrics are by Eleanor Farjeon and I believe the tune is "Bunessan" - a scottish hymn tune. Others may know more than me on this. It is one of my favourites both of Cat Stevens and in general. 😃

Love the Cat! I think we need a new revolution of peace loving “hippies”! That’s what we did, and everybody was happy for a while. There was NO race differences. Check out how many of the groups of our day had black and white groovin side by side. Color was NOT a problem. (At least not here in California).

I remember......saw the same back then.......I have often wondered after all these years if my memory had deceived me......lived in the S.F. area (Marin Co.) back then from birth until the 80's......so I'm really happy you said this.....as you know it was quite a ride.....and some things were .....shall we say....."blurry".....and thus so too the memories. I used to be a big fan of his back in the day but when he agreed that Salman Rushdie should be killed I lost all respect and can't really enjoy his music anymore. Being a peace loving hippy then a supposedly peace loving Muslim doesn't work when you agree that someone needs to die for something they said. He has since said he was misinterpreted but I remember at the time the statements were pretty cut and dried.

back how many few years ago, Stephen COlbert and John Stewart held rallies on the Washington DC Mall, tongue in cheek, and Cat Stephens played this song - I live outside DC, and took the Metro downtown, and good Lord, the streets were crowded with enthusiastic participants, theMall was jammed - even for a make-believe political rally there was so much spirit, people were so enthused, we were all lit up completely -- so wonderful! Ozzy Osbourne did Crazy Train and Cat Stephens did Peace Train, and it was beautiful

Jayy, this "cat" can sing. Ahahaha 😀. I loved it in 71, still do. Music started to change in the early 70s. Cat, Carly Simon, James Taylor, Tony Orlando, Helen Reddy from the wild but great late 60s sound. A good time in music early 70s. Good choice!

Some of his songs are among the best our generation has to offer. There is on RU-vid some fabulous footage of a live concert where he starts the concert sitting alone on a chair. Everyone is thinking grump, grump, grump, it is just him without his band. No drums, no background singers, etc. Then, during the 3rd song, you start hearing something odd. The song sounds fuller than 20 seconds ago. And just as your brain is sorting that out, a curtain opens and there they are, the band, sounding GREAT.

I am soooooooo glad you discovered him. He is very spiritual and had converted to Islam.... Peace is very important to who he is. His music is fun and if you want to watch a movie that has a lot of his music in it the soundtrack to Harold and Maude which is a crazy film from back in the day you might love

Yes, "Harold and Maude" is so terrific. I made my boyfriend (now husband) watch it when we first got together. He was so weirded out at the beginning, and then by the end, he was really into it. It's so terrific.

In my teen years Cat Stevens was very popular and was good for a kick back with friends and relax, Cat Stevens was sad about all the hatred and violence going on and moved to the Middle East to find peace and became a Muslim (that's where the Yusuf came from. When 9/11 happened he wanted to come back and do a benefit concert of the victims family's but the Government wouldn't let him in being Muslim but there were alot of people upset and the Government finally gave in (thank God) love your reactions, you're alot like me when it comes to music I get so excited and in a great mood.

I love the arrangement, how the others, like the organ and back up singers spring in with short, but loud, bursts. Everything sort of organically scattered about. Can't recall ever hearing this sort of thing anywhere else.

I've many memories of back in the day.......one that stands out more so than others is seeing/hearing him "live" when I lived on the west coast. The performance was mesmerizing/magical. Kind of sad to see what we've largely degenerated into......so many hopes and dreams.....but they do still exist......one just needs to make each and everyday one and treat others as we would be treated. Nice to see you react the way you did.....so many have become so jaded.👍👍👍💖💖💖🎼🎼🎼🌈🌈🌈
