Just had my R cataract removed on may 16th and WOW what a difference!! Getting the left removed on the 27th..I think the hardest part is not rubbing your eye...I got the top of the line lenses and it was totally worth it

After surgery is complete and still in the OR, , and the 'face cover' is 'ripped off' would that possibly cause damage to the stitches as opposed to gently pulling the 'face cover' off? Thank you......great video/best I have viewed.

Thank you Sue! The drape sticks to your skin and eyelashes, but it doesn’t actually stick to the surface of your eye as that area is naturally wet. Therefore, there is no traction on the globe itself. Nowadays, very few surgeons would be using a stitch for cataract surgery. Although the drapes can be very adhesive they don’t cause any damage to your eye. Tell your surgeon to be gentler next time! :)

Hi Nick, I'm located in Taiwan and about having cataract surgery. I have very strong myopia with over minus 17 dyoptria. My question would be how to overcome the period of sight imbalance in the right and left eye waiting for the second eye operation that's in my case ranging from two to three weeks? Thank you very much in advance!

Hi Al, you should go and see your optometrist and ask if they can order you contact lenses for your unoperated eye. They might be able to fit you with continuous-wear weekly contact lenses, and you could visit them each week to remove the old contact lens and place the new lens. This will give you balanced vision in that time period between your two eye surgeries. Best of luck for your surgery! Nick

I have had both of my cataracts done, the first one 10 weeks ago, and the second one 5 weeks ago. I still suffer from excessive glare, so bad I still can't drive a car. My surgeon says this is not abnormal and it will lmprove over time. Does this sound correct or could there be something wrong.

Sorry to hear this. Many patients report that their vision is extremely bright for the first few days. This is because modern artificial lenses transmit light to the retina much more efficiently than a cataract, and therefore the image you see is naturally brighter and more vibrant (very similar to the image seen by a young child). However, the adult retina adjusts to this over several weeks. Persistent, significant glare can occur if someone has extremely light sensitive eyes, or if a diffractive multifocal lens is implanted. If you have the latter, and your glare remains very uncomfortable, then you might need to speak to your surgeon about considering a lens exchange. This involves switching your lens for a different model of lens that has less tendency to causing glare symptoms. Hopefully it all settles spontaneously. Wishing you all the very best!

Hello Doctor. I have done my cataract surgery to my left eye before 5 weeks . My vision is clear and I have got the power glasses from my doctor. But Sir, still now, after 5 weeks, I am feeling that something is sticking to the left corner of my left eye and I am seeing a crescent type shadow towards the left corner of my left eye. Please advise me what to do. Thanks a lot.

I had cataract surgery 4 days ago. On the first day, I saw flashes of light. That went away and now I have been seeing a dark stripe or crescent at the outer periphery of my eye. I was told that that was okay, but it hasn't gone away yet. It kind of moves/wavers a little, too. I also still feel something in the corner of my eye. I have heard that healing takes up to 2 months, so maybe we just have to be patient. My vision is great, too.

Sorry to hear that Charlotte, but please note that I didn't perform your surgery. If cataract surgery is meticulously planned then vision should almost never be worse. The vast majority of my patients actually see 20/20 (or better) without glasses. Hopefully your vision will improve over time.
