CATCH & COOK: Flounder! (Fluke) - EASY METHOD!

Summer marsh stuff at it's finest. Some bad weather and a complimentary flounder prize for dinner. Peddled through some back water and landed myself a 19" fish and change on a Gulp! shrimp and half ounce jighead. I worked a few deep cuts and banks and got chased off the water by more storms unfortunately.
Got back to house and filleted the fish. This prep was as follows -
1) Season fillets w/ Lemon Pepper
2) Coat with flour
3) Dip in egg
4) Coat with breadcrumbs (seasoned with garlic and onion)
5) Fry 2-3 minutes per side on high heat with adequate oil
Some fresh coleslaw (I didn't use vinegar - feel free) and rolls to top it off and you are done. Easy stuff and delicious!

Nice video Eli!! The “ribbons” you were talking about are called engawa in Japanese and are a delicacy like you said raw, sashimi style. Although many people eat it like that, I like to marinate it in soy sauce and sake then broil it in the oven. I put the strips of “engawa” in a sushi roll and eat it like that. It’s very good imo hope you give it a try!!

Man, that just looks like the most peaceful setting to be fishing in. I'm from Jacksonville, FL and do a lot of Kayak fishing in the creeks around here and you can't beat days like that with the sun out and calm winds. Tight lines!

When you head back up to NY, maybe give Lake Otsego a try. It's about 80 miles east of Ithaca, and the smallmouth bass fishing can be lights out. There are also lakers in there if you want to try some deep trolling and jigging. Due to limited access it gets very little fishing pressure.

We'd love to see you kayak some of the water we flogged back in the day. "California Lake" in Eastchester should be an easy launch & with parking on Highland avenue. The actual name is "reservoir #3", it's on California road in Twin Lakes county park ( most of which is heavily wooded ). In far NE Westchester, between North Salem and South Salem are three lakes that are spitting distance from the CT border. Lake Oscaleta, and Lake Rippowam, Lake Truesdale is a bit South of those two, and it might have public access, as might the larger lake Waccabuc, ( due East of Oscaleta). The Long Pond Preserve is at the Western end of it and probably has good access. The Kensico reservoir is probably the easier drive since the highway runs right into it. Have a great visit and a safe trip.

I'd like to see some brown trout fishing. Curious about different techniques for targetting larger fish. I took your elias v shads out mackinaw fishing the other day over here on the west coast ended up getting a pretty decent 30inch mackinaw off of it, and 2 smaller 21 inch fish. I have high hopes that if i make a second trip i can get something in the 35-40inch range closer to 20 lbs. I was blind jigging most of the day as it was since i didnt chatge my batteries for the fish finder.

Hey I've seen you fish Cayuga lake before, any chance you will get out there when you come back up? I'd love to learn a little more about summer lake trout fishing. I'll be heading out there the following week kayak fishing with a buddy and we are looking into getting our first lakers! I went to the area earlier this spring for opening day and did great fishing the tributaries. Now that it's warmer we are excited to get on the water.

You are obviously very talented. I love watching your videos. Why not hand the fish on a stringer after you cut their gills to help totally bleed them out? I totally agree that fish caught in the bay vs the ocean smell and taste differently. Here in San Francisco we have abundant Halibut in the San Francisco Bay. They come into the Bay to spawn from the Pacific Ocean. The ones I catch in the Ocean look different and taste much better. Those fish sandwiches look very delicious. I hope you get some in the ocean that will taste even better.

Hi Elias, If you don't mind me asking a few questions about fishing, I'm going into my third year now, and still learning a lot up in New York, to be honest your video got me into the sport. I was wondering about the law when salt water fishing in other states when you're in New York, since our permits here are free, is there a way to get a license that shares between the states, or how do you usually do it when you're fishing in other states. The tail that you tagged onto the gulp when it got its tail bitten off in the video, is there a link where I could buy that from. and the difficulties in getting your kayak out into the ocean instead of the sound, what are the precautions that you usually take? Thanks for reading, and answering the questions. Stay Awesome.
