One of a series on shore fishing in Tendring, Essex (UK) and my second video from Harwich.
This video covers a spring daytime session at Dovercourt Beach (filmed on 14.04.22). I fished here targeting rays with one rod any species with the other. It was the rod with worm baits that got the interest from rays and a much welcomed sole at the end.

Thanks Rod that looked enjoyable. I seem to catch more skate on fresh out lug than on fish baits .

Thanks Gary - all of my undulates have come to small bits of rag and squid intended for bream; most thornbacks to just ragworm.

As you said, a good end to what I would have happily described as a good session. Another very enjoyable video...your videos are always a joy to watch. Think I need to take a deep breath, fill the tank with diesel and get myself to the shore for a session! Cheers. Ken

Yes - I did call out, not sure whether that got recorded. There's plenty of potential hazards to be aware of and look out for. Accidents happen; thankfully I've yet to be involved in one on a beach or prom.. Well spotted - I was aware of that whilst editing and could have cut it out, but try to keep my videos as real and representative as possible. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Having watched many UK fishing videos, I've always wondered what Bluey is ..... now I know, we call it Sauri in NZ. It wasn't used during my childhood years in the UK - Mackerel, Herring & Sprats were all we used (my biggest Thornback of 18lbs in 1982 took a whole Sprat)

My bigger rays from the Bristol Channel have come to squid - I don't seem to catch much on fish baits, but keep trying.

Thanks for the video Michael, a nice mixed bag. Have to be really careful of the pooches. Hooked a nice Labrador on Shingle Street last year. Why do dog owners always assume everybody else love dogs?

Thanks Chris - yes dogs on beaches and proms can cause some issues.

Cracking video as always Rods,with great tips and info in all your videos.I know you like to use braid but do you ever use mono? Stay safe and keep on bringing out these top videos.
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 2 года назад
Many thanks for that. I much prefer to use braid, except in a side wind or where there are plenty of snags. Mono is better in both those situations and is more wear resistant - I should really use it more often, but carrying extra spools adds weight to my gear and I tend to carry too much as it is.

Shame - but it happens to us all - as long as they are released unharmed, that's all that matters. Thanks for watching.

Another great video, thank you. A quick (hopefully not a daft question) do you prefer to fish with the continental impact leads over grips or does it depend on conditions?
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 2 года назад
Thanks Bill - yes, conditions dictate - with little tidal pull, then grip leads / breakaways are not needed and continental leads are the way to go, particularly if you fish with braid.

Hi Rod have watched your channel for a while, just curious where about are you based as you get about a bit. I’m near Sizewell I know you have been this way, a lot of travelling. Carry on the great content 👍
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 2 года назад
Southend based - but don't mind travelling, unless fuel prices rocket too much. I have fished Sizewell quite a bit in the past - for soles in summer and dabs in winter. Need to visit to film there soon. Thanks for watching.

Great video, again, 4 species and some friendly locals ! Were the bait robbers shore crabs or the dreaded spiders ? I lost 3 hooks to them yesterday at Shoreham. Time for the braid snoods. Keep the videos coming, we all look forward to the next one.
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 2 года назад
Not spider crabs and I'm not sure whether they get them here Rob, as I haven't fished Harwich that much yet. I use braid hooklengths myself at several venues to avoid spider crabs. Thanks for watching and commenting.
