In this video I fish a brand new creek that turns out to be a winner! I also test out one of the cheapest "tenakra" rods around.

Minimalist fishing technique meets minimalistic cost. I often find it interesting in how expensive things can get when we strip away all the "extras." (No reel, no eyelets, no cork handle=$150). This one for $10 definitely has a lot to be desired, but it didn't stop you from catching fishing and being out having fun. And if you damage it, it cost less than a "value meal!" Thanks for posting, I enjoy the "budget" adventures that get posted on YT

I have bought 6 of those yellow ones that seem about 8ish feet long. They are awesome for what they are. I keep one in my Harley saddlebag, one in a rod tube WITH a 9 piece travel fly rod in my jeep, one in a grab and go backpack with a telescopic UL spinning rod set up...and the others in reserve. I'm not expecting them to work like my Tenkara USA rods... but I do like them to always have a rod handy and rigged up. Hey, if I break it, it's not the end of the world. :) congrats on a great day slaying the brookies!

I have several of those in shorter lengths for bushy, arboreal creeks. If by accident they break, no problem.

Many thanks for this video - I agree these rods probably fill a needed niche for very low cost entry level rods. But you’re right - once one fishes with a better, true tenkara rod, the difference will be clear! By the way, I really liked that kebari you used! Another great video outing - sincere thanks as usual!

Exactly what they’re for, entry, extra, kids, or just plain frugality in a niche sport convoluted by American profit. The truth is those $180-$200 American Tenkara rods are just Chinese made cheap rods. There flexibility never deviated from a 7:3 even if stated otherwise. Buy a Japanese tenkara rod, you cannot buy them on Amazon or at least only a very small few brands and models. You’ll be incredibly happy and many replacement Japanese tips are only $5-10. I’ve seen the American brands doing this for $20.

@@TenkaraAddict gotcha man! I saw a video of you fishing a river with a tenkara rod which is what gave me that idea. Just keep bringing that good content. By the way, when you make it to pennsylvania I have a beautiful tiny native trout stream that I challenge you to catch a fish in.

I have used one of those yellow rods. It was my first; kind of a "no skin in the game" introduction to tenkara. It does the job, but my new Dragon Tail Hellbender feels SO much better. I don't know if I can touch the yellow rod, again.
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 3 года назад
Yep, a "real" tenkara rod will feel much better!
@andrewbacon3583

Under normal circumstances (with a normal rod), do you pulse the rod to make the fly jitter, or do you just let the current carry the fly? I've not had much luck tenkara angling for trout.
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 3 года назад
I usually just let the current carry the fly (called a dead drift).

A few weeks back, I bought a 2.7m 'Yella-cheap' rod as a back-up, and also in case someone on the stream asked me about Tenkara/Tenkara-ish fishing and wanted try it on. Of the various lengths of these yella rods, which length have you found to be better casting to your stroke: Better as the length decreases/length under X-cm is too stiff/etc...
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 3 года назад
I haven't tried all of them, so I can't say with authority. I've just fished with this one, the 180, and the 360. This one is the best of those.

Trout nurseries, where did mom and pop go? Down stream to larger water, maybe? I wonder how that rod would behave by adding some weight to the after butt section somehow not interfering with your grip Of course this would add to the overall weight, a bit tiring I suspect Or just stow the thing away and grab your love rod You know, your favorite Tenkara rod to be succinct Thanks for sharing these records of your days on the liquid
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 2 года назад
Adding more weight to it I think would be more trouble than it's worth!

That rod might be all right for carp or bass.
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 3 года назад
I have doubts that it would hold up to a good-sized bass, let alone a carp.
@MrRourk
@MrRourk 3 года назад
You should of bought the longer one. Then take it apart and toss the bottom 2 sections. The bottom sections are very heavy and stiff.

@@TenkaraAddict A couple of years ago I built some rods for some newbs out of these. There was RU-vids on how to take one apart and build a so called Tenkara rod out of it. I do remember the bottom sections being way to stiff to fish with.
