We are back in Captain Mark’s boat heading North of Revillagigedo Island on the hunt for Spot Prawns. Spoiler* we catch some monsters. Mark and Matt will show a bit on how to catch Spot Prawn shrimp as they explore a new shrimping location. It was an awesome trip and adventure.
Hope you all enjoyed the show. As we are getting started with this channel please leave your feedback in the comments and share with anyone who might enjoy! Thanks! - Zach

Aloha. Looks like you were close to Yes Bay Lodge. Worked there in 01,02,04, and 06. Good fishing, crabbing, and shrimping. Have fond memories.

Nice camera and production work! Thanks for sharing. I prawn in southern BC waters, and the key thing I've learnt when trying a new location is to check the traps shortly after dropping. If there's not much in them after 30-60 minutes, the prawns aren't there today. I also find a 2-3 hour soak yields more or less the same as leaving them overnight. My favourite timeline is to head out ~90 minutes before a high or low tide, pull, empty and re-bait the traps and then set them again, then go fish salmon for the hour each side of the slack tide, and pick up the traps again after that. Head home after a 3 hour outing with two batches of premium seafood. Leave the traps in for the night, do it all again tomorrow.

Thanks for watching and for the tips! That's the beauty of dropping traps and pots - gives you that time to relax, fish, in between. - Zach

Ha! Interesting. I think I would give that a shot as long as it's not too deep - I don't need to bulk up that much. - Zach

Great content guys! I love the patter you have between you, and you're both very comfortable and real on camera, which is rare. Excellent post production as well. Deadheads are one of my biggest fears as well. When the mighty Skeena river starts cleaning house during runoff in spring and early summer, it's like an obstacle course for my fiberglass boat.

for those unaware,, Prawns and Shrimp are 2 separate animals... shrimp have 1 set of arms , a curled body and are mostly in salt water,,,, prawns have 3 sets of arms,, a straight body and are mostly in fresh water... prawns are usually larger than shrimp as well... Spot ( prawns) are in fact shrimp.

Excellent upload guys! By far the most informative video on shrimping that I've watched to date. Still trying to figure out if I'm going to end up in Oregon, Washington or Alaska when I sell my place but regardless of my landing, I've got a much better handle on catching shrimp now.

Aloha. If that’s the cabin I’m thinking about, it’s on an inlet that’s pretty sketchy at low tide with some big boulders.

Great videos for us Alaskan subscribers. The plotter trick of circling at set sight a great tip. Your intro shows a squid jig with squid. Can we expect a video on that subject? I'm interested in expanding my Prince William Sound adventure experiences to include jigging for squid and hope your excellent informative videos would include how to squid Alaskan Waters. Thanks to all your crew and look forward to new videos.

500' is too deep in my opinion, and as I suspected you caught only one prawn in each trap. I'm guessing you found success later at a depth of 300' give or take 20'. A tip I got that has worked wonders for me prawning is poke a few holes in a can of Friskas seafood supreme cat food and either hang it by its ring or place it in the bait cup. I hope I don't come off as a know it all, only saying what works very well in my experience in BC waters. Peace out.
