3:16 - They just increased catch rate, to make it easier to capture. Catch rates were changed here and there. In Yellow, 4 Pokemon had different catch rates which results in different held items when transferred to G2 (as the devs use that slot for owned Pokemon transferred from G2 to G1 to preserve held items). Pikachu originating from Yellow have Light Ball while Kadabra would hold a Twisted Spoon (if originating from other games they have Berry instead), this being the only source of these two items in G2. Dragonair would also hold a Protein and Dragonite's would hold... Antidote, except there's no wild Dragonite in G1 (in other games both are set to Bitter Berry instead). IIRC in G4, Raticate was increased to 127 from 90. Why? No idea. In ORAS, the catch rate of G3-G5 paired mascot legends was set to 3 (from 5 for G3 mascots, 30 for G4 mascots and 45 for G5 mascots); G4/G5 are no longer story relevant (and show up in the Hoopa rings) while G3... I guess for constitency? Rayquaza went from 3 to 45, ebcause of Delta Episode. In USUM, the various catch rates of the Ultra Beasts found in original Sun and Moon (varying from as low as 3 to as high as 255) was all set to 45, while Necrozma went from 3 to 255 (possibly because in USUM you basically find it still recovering from your fight). In Let's Go only, Bulbasaur's catch rate is 120 instead of 45. In Sword and Shield, the Poipole line is increased from 3 to 45 while Stakataka and Blacephalon go from 3 to 30. Legends Arceus has a lot of different catch rates due to differences in the system. In Scarlet and Violet 2.0.1 update (the one tied to the first DLC) Basculin went from just 25 all the way to 190. Also, it was discovered somewhat recently (like few years ago), that some Shadow Pokemon in Colosseum and XD have modified catch rates, to make them harder or easier to capture (most notably, if you have the Japanese-only E-reader card for the extra three Shadow Pokemon, that Shadow Mareep has 45 catch rate instead of 235). 9:22 - It was a rumor that was spawned from the 1/256 miss oversight, but eventually people digging at the code proved it just outright skips the whole algorithm. 12:15 - That is how it works in later games, where multiplier takes place if its base Speed is 100 or higher. 18:06 - the tl;dr is that they moved Moon Stone but did not update whichever functions point to the item ID (it points to where Moon Stone is in G1).

I like Gen 2, I think it’s pretty good. And no, it’s not just because they nerfed wrap, though that does help. It has issues, sure, but none of them are bad enough to ruin the game like gen 1 wrap did. It added some much needed upgrades, it had some cool puzzles which were fun to solve. It had some great battles like Whitney and Red which were fun challenges. Speaking of, it was really cool how you could go back to Kanto, fight the gym leaders and Red. Yes, Heartgold and soul silver are better, but the originals are still solid. Also, I admire the attempt to defend generation 1, but unfortunately I just can’t agree. Good video though.

To this day, I still don't use Apricorn balls in normal gameplay because I still think that they have these defects, but in special cases, like in raid dens where catch rate is 100% regardless of species, I might consider on using an Apricorn ball.

I do wish apricot balls weren't as rare nowadays. I still think some catch rates are whack looking at you Murkrow.

well yes the heavy ball is great for groudon, but groudon isnt in gen 2 :)

This might be my personal bias, but I hate gen 2. Not because of the Pokemon or the characters, mind, but because of the region and design choices. Why am I beating the champion, going to Kanto, and the wild encounters are still BARELY lvl 30? Why are Kurt's balls so uselessly niche for how rare they are? Why do the JOHTO gym leaders have almost nothing but KANTO Pokemon? Why is Whitney the first gym leader to have a new Pokemon? Why doesn't Falkner have a Hoothoot? Why doesn't Bugsy have a Ledian? Why does Morty have an entire team of nothing but the Gastly line? Why does the FIFTH GYM LEADER have only TWO team members? So many design choices in Gen 2 are either baffling, enraging, or both. Heart Gold and Soul Silver are nice visual upgrades, and they fixed some peripheral issues, like getting more than one Kurt ball per day, but it didn't solve any of the fundamental issues with the games. Just slapped a sparkly new coat of paint on an otherwise terrible region that is really only held up by nostalgia.

While I'd like to agree with your ending comment about people abandoning games that are cashgrabs or don't respect their time . . . unfortunately the younger generations that grew up with cell phones capable of playing something more advanced than pacman, have had notoriously low standards for video games, which is why crap like diablo4 and genshin continue to thrive despite blatantly being garbage disposals for wallets despite offering significantly less substance than older games.
