Wildlife biologist Chris Rombough tracks an invasive red-eared slider and shows off his turtle hunting technique.
About the Program:
Something troubling is taking hold in Oregon. Strange, exotic plants and animals are showing up in places where they don't belong. They are invasive species, and they're taking over landscapes, driving native wildlife away, and making everyone from ranchers to fishermen to wildlife managers nervous. Oregon Public Broadcasting's one hour special, The Silent Invasion, takes a look at the invaders lurking across our borders and showing up around our state. It introduces the people fighting to protect Oregon and our way of life. Tune in on Earth Day, April 22 at 8pm on the stations of Oregon Public Broadcasting to learn more about this problem and what can be done to stop the invasion.

Humans intervened by introducing red eared sliders that were otherwise isolated from Oregon by natural topography. The introduction threatens dozens of native species. If we let mother nature "do her thing" we could see native species disappear as this one proliferates. I recommend learning about the fundamentals of ecology and invasive species.

Why not just leave them alone?

Joiviel because they are an invasive species which are not native to the territory thus creating a huge imbalance in the ecosystems. They are impacting all the native organisms in a negative way. If they just left them the problem would grow, I don’t agree with animals being harmed in any way but I also know that someone has to do something about this global issue.
