It's a pity that this video is so old, but I hope to tell that they aren't necessary released. I guess they simply escape or disappear for people that doesn't keep an eye on them when the are having them outdoors in the sun. That's what happened to my red eared slider when my sister took care of it while I was abroad. I feel sorrow that I lost my pet even today. This happened in the end of the 90s. I really loved my slider.
Nah man people release them all the time thinking it’s good lol I had 4 red eared sliders when I was in middle school and without knowing they were invasive I released all 4 in a river near my house and decades later after I graduated high school I actually found a juvenile red eared slider and took her home been with me for 2 months now her names penny

We might be, but until a bigger species comes along to wipe us out, we're going to try to help our local native turtles survive by educating people about invasive red-eared sliders.
They need to be eradicated from the Western United States. I hate invasive species have threatenedAour ecosystems ever since European settlers arrived.
This dude just regurgitated shit he heard other people say and was off on most of it...Any and all turtles regardless of age or size can carry salmonella.
Hey PunkAss17331. This guy is a biologist specializing in invasive species. And what he said comes from years of experience working to keep Oregon's fish and wildlife safe. Of course any and all turtles can carry salmonella, but these tiny ones are especially easy for toddlers to put in their mouths, greatly increasing their exposure. Have a great day!
Just because someone looks like they know what they are talking about doesn't mean they do. And what I said is all he said was the same shit that every other so called expert regurgitates every damn time..
If you're going,to,put a video out to educate people, then educate them. Don't just put out there the same shit that anyone with a smart phone and thirty seconds of free time can find,on their own...
So every year people release hundreds of these turtles into the wild when their kids head off to college. And every year we pick up these turtles, because they outcompete our native turtles for resources. So the purpose of these videos, repetitive and droll as it may be for the likes of you, is to let people know why releasing these turtles into the wild isn't good. And if everyone with a smartphone and 30 seconds of free time was passing along this message, we wouldn't have as many people letting their pet turtles go.
