Catching Rogue Rooster | Don't Over Complicate Things

Our rooster escaped the other day, while we were cleaning out their coop. He somehow fit through a small hole in the bird netting we have setup as predator protection. We spent quite a while on day #1 to try to catch him, by using blankets, sticks, and everything else we could think of.

You need a long-handled fishing net. That's how we had to catch ours every time he got out. Is there a gate to the pen area? Just open it and chase him that way if so.

This is totally off topic, but I just found your channel and I would LOVE to see day to day cooking from your pantry. I need recipe ideas using canned foods since I am so used to using fresh veggies. Would love to see how you use things like your salsas and relishes and pickled items as parts of meals. I am a complete newbie so I can't see how to intergrate these things (and others) into meals but would love to start veggie gardens and preserving. I love your content!

Hi from Australia. If you had made a loose loop of wire at the bottom of the existing post, and added another star post just tied to the end of the fence wire with a loop on the top you would have a handy gate, simply place the post on the gate into the lower loop and pull the top loop over the existing post. a common stock gate here in Aus.

We keep a long handled fishing net by the back door as well just for this purpose. Now all I have to do is grab the net and most girls head straight for the pen on their own.

Our rooster used to roost in a tree when he didn’t want to go to bed at night. He was a great rooster but a heatwave we had over here during the terrible bushfires killed our little man 😥We have no chooks at the moment as our girls perished too! Whats your roosters name?

@@1870s I have a painter's roller extension pole that I made a leg hook out of #9 wire. And used a couple hose clamps to hold the hook to the pole. We use that all the time for butcher roundup.

let him roost for the night and then go out after dark. They have very poor eyes sight in the dark and you can easily catch him.

I think he's of the extra-fast variety. We have a pretty big net, but it's up at our cabin - and the handle is pretty short anyways.
