In this video we head up to Alaska! We brought some of our friends with us and ended up catching 4 different species of Salmon and nice Alaskan Rainbow Trout. Amazing how well these Tenkara rods handle big fish.

Great to see some big fish action. Would love to see some videos that show how you rig your rods and how you are fishing for the fish rather than just showing fish being caught. Thanks for all you do.

While it is fun to go out and get bigger fish, there is something purely peaceful about being alone on a tiny stream! Would be so hard to pick one over the other!

Awesome! Always wondered how a tenkara rod would handle salmon.

Ya honestly most of our rods will handle a salmon but the big Rocky actually works really really well!

That fish at 4:55 was a female sockeye, fellas. I am pretty sure one go you got an IGFA slam.

Bought the Teton Zoom a year ago...still haven't caught anything yet...but glad to see that it can catch some decent size salmon!!

Ya it absolutely can handle the bigger fish but is also still really fun on smaller fish! Hopefully you can get out and catch some fish soon!

Well this put me over the edge on picking up a rocky. Guess it is necessary here in Seattle. Hitting the Skagit as soon as it is here!

How difficult is it to land a fish yourself without having someone to scoop it up in a net? I would think trying to get the fish to you with 26 feet of extension including rod and line would be rather difficult.
@tenkararodco
@tenkararodco 2 года назад
It really all depends on the scenario. How big is the fish, how deep is the water, how fast is the water, how much line + tippet do you have, what rod are you using, and what strength of tippet do you have. If I were fishing by myself for big fish I would use the Rocky rod which can be fished at 14.5 ft. then I would also use a 10.5 ft line with 3-4 feet of tippet. This would ensure that the total length of line + tippet is shorter than the rod. So while I would have 26+ feet of extension, when I bring the rod up vertically the length of the rod turns that into a triangle and I can bring the fish right up to my feet. But having someone net the fish always reduces the time it takes to land the fish by quite a lot and is generally the easiest and quickest way to get a fish in.
