Using a small engine to start a larger engine, which is then used to start an even larger engine, is particularly entertaining for me. It reminds me of the scene in King of the Hill when Hank takes out a can of WD40 to spray a sticky door knob, but the lid is stuck on, so he takes out a smaller can of WD40 to spray the lid of the larger can of WD40, and then uses the larger can of WD40 on the door knob. Great stuff.

A good tip when lapping valves into their seats is to put a light spring between the valve head and the guide. This means you can stop ever few turns, let the spring lift the valve off the seat and dribble a little bit of kerosene around the valve, this carries the grinding compound back into the lapping zone. A proper valve grinding power tool, like Black and Decker used to make, is not rotary but oscillating .

Between you and MUSTIE 1, I don't know who gets more excited when you both get an antique running again.

You make all that hard work look easy Matt. Everytime you dive into one of these earthmover projects, I am reminded of how important the periodic maintenance of the equipment is, as I was taught in my dozer operation course back in '82. Another great video. I very much appreciate it. I believe that you should make this grader all that it can be, not neccesrily a complete rebuild, but all the important functional stuff. Just my two cents.

Congrats to you Matt!!!!!!! I love to see your excitement when you get one of these old girls fired up & running after you have worked so hard ,sometimes for a few day`s getting all the problems sorted & fixed. You have come a lone way since you started your channel with your mechanic abilities & know-how. With almost 600 thousand subscribers to your channel, you my friend are doing it right, and you have earned all of it, no easy task at all. You deserve to be proud of your success Matt. Take care buddy!!

Every time you acquire one of these old machines I think to myself that these are just big pieces of scrap metal. Yet somehow with your extreme tenacity you are able to breathe life into them. I truly admire your abilities sir!

I was so impressed with your stuck flywheel diagnosis as well as your chop saw starter idea. I would never have thought of either. Great fun to watch your videos. Thanks Matt!

Watching you when you get one of these things running is like watching my kids on Christmas Morning. I'm old now and am living my years watching guys like you do such great work. It is an absolute joy wo watch you Matt. God Bless You, your family and all the stragglers you drag home. Give a big hug to your wife for me for encouraging you in your quest as the Superman of Old Iron !!!

Matt, you make it seem so simple working alone and making magic happen. The chop saw starter is simply genius. I check every morning for new videos, if I can watch a new one, I watch an old one for the 10th time. Keep it up.

Not taking that long for the workshop, to start looking like a workshop! I don’t know why, I feel such jubilation and joy, when you get something running, but I certainly do. Love your stuff.

It just goes to show that just because it’s OLD, it doesn’t mean it can RUN. I miss hauling construction equipment/oversized stuff here&there(I’m mostly tanker these days), and watching you resurrect these old beasts keeps me in touch. It’s not lost on me at the end, with the old Autocar cab being brought in with your skid steer…..glad you’ve not given up on that truck, even with the more/capable orange Autocar in use…

Amazing at how the old stuff never wants to die. 2 decades ago we carried 2 giant batteries into a field and within 20 minutes had an old D6 from the 1960's running that had been sitting for a least 5 years. I have been hooked ever since on these old machines, big or small. Great video and the best part is that you saved one from the scrap man. Once these old beasts are gone they're gone forever. Keep up the great work.

The ones with a good pony motor, you take a rope and a gallon of gas and go get them started in midwinter!

By the way, I’m someone who tore a shoulder trying to start stubborn equipment over the years. Obviously putting off carb rebuilds, etc. Your cutoff saw starter is brilliant!

You are indeed The Diesel Whisperer!! That CAT can idle pretty slow and smoothly. Definitely needed some TLC. Thanks for making the content. Bet it was great to be working in the shop vs. out in nature!
