5-19-24 This is one of the older ones I missed, so I decided to watch it this evening. When you started futzing around with the injectors I saw the glo-plugs, and wondered why you were ignoring them. This is one of those projects that screams out for a remote starter button, and a remote glo-plug switch. Especially since you had no key. After all, if there are glo-plugs they must be there for a reason, right? :) Glad you got it running. Love seeing an old horse come alive after sleeping for so long. EDIT.... I made my comment about the remote starter before watching the rest after you got it running. Glad someone thought to send you one.

First job out of high school in 1970 was at a local family- owned garden center who also sold Satoh tractors. They also had a commercial grounds maintenance operation. Many times, we would go to the site of a new home and do landscaping ,planting trees, shrubs and even a sod lawn. and they used those Satoh tractors. For their size they were amazing and so reliable. You have a true gem there. It deserves a full restoration for sure.

Considering how little it took to get it running, you got one hell of a deal on that little tractor! If you do decide to repaint it, I suggest dark crimson for the areas that are now dark blue [that color will show the dirt less], Barbie pink for the areas that are white, and a leopard print seat cover. Oh, and don't forget the deep blue LED headlight bulbs. A nice final touch will be to paint eyelashes on the cowling above the headlights. Your neighbors will be scandalized, but your wife will love it! As a bonus, she'll own a machine she can use to compete in those garden tractor pull events! She'll become so famous you'll have to start a whole new RU-vid channel!

They were commonly used by farmers in Japan, for farming and working at cultivating and harvesting rice. They are small, but well built like the B600 Kubota that we commonly see in North America. Kubota tractors seemed to be more common around Narita, north of Tokyo, but there was a Mitsubishi dealer near where we stayed, and they sold equipment to compete with Kubota. There were other brands, but I own a Kubota 4x4, and a KH90, and only had eyes for Orange.

Matt has a 2 stroke diesel now and those take API CF-2 rated low sulfur oil to prevent coking problems. Strangely, the Wal Mart brand is CF-2 rated but the made for purpose oil is Delo 100, which your NAPA will probably have to order for you. Anyway, Rotella is wrong for 2 stroke. It also would not surprise me if air cooled diesels might want a higher temperature formulation than water cooled diesels, the same way air cooled 2 stroke gas does not take the TC-W3 made for water cooled boat 2 strokes. Probably same for air cooled gas lawnmowers.

I have that exact little tractor. Glow plugs are a must lol. I was screaming in my head GLOW PLUGS, it'll start, ha ha. I found an old loader, and made it fit. Wasn't easy, but it was a fun project. That little hydraulic pump, on the right side of the engine, is enough to operate it well. Great little tractor. Great video. Thanks.

Well done Matt. I rebuilt an identical tractor in Papua New Guinea some years back. It was badged as a Ford 2000 ( I think) and the engine (also identical to yours) was made by Shibaura, out of Japan. A full rebuild from nose to tail, saw it mowing grass happily for many years after. Good memories!.

Hi Matt, love what you do...Your little 2 cylinder Mitzi tractor, I found over the years working on small horticultural diesels that they often fire up easier and quicker on about 1/4 throttle, don't know why but I found it helps. New shop is looking great, as you say it'll be a real game changer once you're in there. Keep up the good work thanks for sharing it with us...

Hi Matt and family from Australia. My husband is a truck driver and your channel is one of the first he checks when he is home. We love the content and have fun with your repair videos. We also love Matt's enthusiasm when he gets something to start. Keep up the good work. God's blessing to you all and hope you have a healthy, happy and successful 2023. We will continue to watch and enjoy. Diane and Denis

I've been watching resto and junkyard revival videos for years: this is an absolute masterclass. You touched on every newb question and solution for the most part. And what a story just getting it run was. The whole diagnosis, it was like a well written novel to be honest. This is why I love machines, and secondly, why I love your channel. Well done, brother.

Kudos for going back and cleaning up the lawn damage. I was taught always leave a place as good as or better than you found it. Sweet find. Great video and I’d wait until you have heat in the workshop before giving Eva the tractor. Just in case…

Cool pick Matt! When I saw the fuel spurting and the sparks from the starter flying around,I thought you might wind up with an EXternal combustion engine. Also - these revivals would be way easier if you had one of those starter jumper switches for jumping the solenoid - just a suggestion based on 40 years of engine work. EDIT: and Eva just showed up with one!!

External combustion engines add a lot of excitement and make good video content but don't do much for the tractor 😃 If it was gasoline instead of diesel I'd be willing to bet that's exactly what he would've had

Need to get a new key as well. Drain plug put in during the Summer and winter / fall makes them short and fat. Heat makes them longer and skinny. If you tighten in the winter - recheck summer as they might leak.

The look of sheer delight on your face whenever something finally starts is always a joy to see. And I love your thorough and explained processes of working through the problem. I was a turret mechanic in the late '80s/early '90s. Vehicles weren't my specialty, but using what I know and what I've learned watching your videos makes me pretty confident that come the apocalypse, I have a good chance of getting anything my party of survivors stumbles across to start & run.

As I said on your last vid after the concrete pour Matt, you should have dug out and shuttered an inspection pit on one side of that open canopy but still under cover, it would be a life saver for getting under things like the cat belly pan for instance, plus would make oil changing a breeze, remember how you struggled on your back to change those hoses underneath the thing.

Growing up we had a ~1988 Mitsubishi MT372D. Very similar to this but it had square headlights, blue body panels and the frame was painted dark gray. It was a great little tractor but the belly mower we had was after market and super finicky (was constantly throwing the belt off the front crank pulley). My favorite feature was the little gas pedal on the right for when you momentarily needed more throttle. I used to stomp on it while mowing just to roll coal. I miss that old girl, my dad traded it in for a Kubota ZG222 in 2008 (which he still has to this day). Last I heard a fella from Kentucky drove up to the dealer in Wilmington Ohio to buy it. I hope it’s still running for him! Thanks for sharing this video!
