From the manual - PUSHing on the edge of battery cover is the way to do it. The bottom of the battery is rounded so it pops out when you push on the edge. That way you don't mark up the battery cover by using a sharp tool.

Brad: Thank you very much for posting this. As with most manuals that have to offer instructions in SIX languages, there is little to no detail, especially concerning the initial set up sequence. I doubt if I would have figured out back button-pushing sequences without your video. Thanks again, Pat in Chicago

THANK YOU! I normally rely on my husband as my bike mechanic but he was out of town and the battery died (good tip on changing it annually, will start doing that now). The wheel size guide was invaluable - I would have been so lost without it. Your instructions were so crystal clear that my two boys (10 and 6) and I were able to start and finish successfully in minutes w

Thanks very much Brad, you saved me some good time this morning resetting the computer again this year. Like you I have always been changing once every year or two, just enough to forget it. One tip is that I always roll the wheel (as suggested by one of the other commenters) rather than rely on the chart. I make sure tire pressure is right and have someone help hold the bike while I sit on it.

Per the instructions: just push in at the top of the battery cover (where it says "TOP" if you rotate the cover right side up) and it pops right up, no prying.
@DCV321
@DCV321 5 лет назад
Yup, I was all set to pry it but checked the comments first. The cover opened right up when I pushed on TOP. Strange that it doesn't say PUSH HERE :-)
@johnmarshall8171
@johnmarshall8171 5 лет назад
As noted by several commenters below, you don't need a screwdriver to remove the battery cover. Just push the bottom edge of the cover as clearly illustrated in the manual. More importantly, however, is that the cover is meant to be water resistant. If you take a screwdriver to the cover as this gentleman did, you risk compromising the water resistance.

I was looking for way to remove the battery cover and found your post. I just found it's easier to remove than what you showed. You don't need to pry it off . All you need to do is push down on top part with thumb and it flips right out. The rest of your video is good. Thanks.

Love Cateye products but don't know why they have to make em so confusing.

Hey, thanks for the video. I used a steak knife and was able to pluck out the cover leaving only a small mark. I made sure to use just the point and kept it in the same area. Once I got the damn thing off I took a file and create a small slot on the edge of the cover where prying it out had left a mark. Next time it shouldn't be such a pain to get the cover off. Thanks for the rest of the info as well and best to you. :)

In the video you changed it from kmh to mph. I googled the wheel size and there was a website that had 4 digit #s for Mph and 4 digit #s for kmh and they were different for the same tire size. I used the 4 for mph and my ride is accurate. Just thought I'd throw that out there. But the video was a great help I wouldn't have figured it out with out it.

One tip: instead of trying to pry the battery cover...simply push down on one edge, usually just using your finger, and the other side will pop up a bit. Cateye has the manuals online in the event you need them.

The battery cover says Top on it - and should be aligned with the top of the computer (says Cateye above it) if you press on this edge on top of the word Top, the black cover levers up. If it's not aligned, still press on this edge to get it to pop up. No tool required. I had started using a pin, but remembered I had done it before with no trouble, and the penny dropped :)

You know - that's a good idea... I've tried to measure one revolution of the wheel by spraying the tire with paint, but never had any luck, but riding a distance - like a measured mile on the highway and doing the math to figure out the right number for your actual tire and the air pressure you inflate it to and your weight would be the way to go. I'll have to try that.
