WOW I fished there as a child all the time with my parents. We use chicken liver or hotdogs for catfish. You’ll never have a problem having a fish on your hook. This video really bought back some nostalgic memories. 💕

Hotdogs work well, but chicken liver is catfish candy. Tip: Sprinkle 1/4 cup of garlic salt in the liver the night before you use it. Not only will the catfish love it even more, it will smell awesome while using it for bait lol

I have been fishing all my life, and I had never heard of hotdogs for catfish before either. I tried it the next time I went fishing for catfish and caught 5 catfish that were the perfect eating size!! I’ll be using this from now on. Thanks for the great videos and all the tips!

Holy crap man. How did i miss this video. My family and I used to camp for 3-4 days at a time at High Falls and catch crappie during the spawn for us to eat until I joined the army 16 years ago and i haven't been back since then. Ive been in that tackle shop so many times i cant count them. Many many memories were made at that place. I love your videos. Keep doing what your doing man. Your channel is an inspiration to all of us.

My grandfather owned a fish camp on lake Okeechobee back in the early 70's , he used to commercial fish on that ole lake, believe it or not he used 1/4 inch pieces of ivory soap on his trot lines he'd always load that boat down with catfish. Good video Rob watch you guys all the time, good people!

My family. We're some good ol southern black country folks from FL. And we catch our catfish with chicken liver. & we don't fillet em. We do em just how ol boy dun em. Good eat'n. The tail gets all nice and crunchy. Boy i love the South!! Those GA folks are literally like my ppl. Pickled eggs, sausage, pig feet.. Etc 😂

I am from ohio... We use beef stew meat for big blue's and shuvlehead catfish... I moved down to Fort Myers Florida... started salt water fishing, found out that the saltwater catfish don't get nearly as big as a big blue cat or a shuvlehead... So I experienced using the same bait in saltwater... I tear up hardheads and sailcats with hotdogs... I use the hardheads for cut bait to try and catch Tarpon and sharks... Working my way up the food chain.. Great video Robert.... Love your channel... Hope to meet you one day!

You guys were fishing a stocked pond but I don't believe hotdog will have the same effect on the river. I always use live fish or cut bait. Fun video to watch. Thanks for sharing

I had fun in Agusta at quite a few fish frys, in the 70s. Southern hospitality is a real thing in Georgia. Caught large cats right in town, in the Savannah River. Large, as in very big.

Hot dogs and channel catfish are like bread and butter :) Something to try with any catfish, soak overnight in 7UP... not sprite or other white pop...has to be 7UP... firms the fish, will leave a slight lemon flavor... prepare however.. baked, broiled, fried, grilled... Think of the 7UP like a brine for birds... I always brine fowl before cooking, same as the catfish.... might be surprised by the difference in flavors if you try.... God Bless!

Texas here. I've heard of using all sorts of things for catfish. Berries, shrimp, sausage, hotdogs, other fish, worms, fake worms, grubs, corn, cornbread, gummyworms, liver, cheese, rotten/expired meat from the back of the fridge, bread, dough... Pretty much if it exists, a catfish is gonna try to eat it.

In our area I have always used livers and hotdogs.

I saw those hooks and already knew the ain't catching a state record

Chicken liver is the way to go, it falls off of the hook really easy though. ive seen people tie chicken liver inside of panty hose. But hotdogs work too, i use hotdogs that have cured in a jello powder and garlic combination in a bag, that's what has worked for me. Great Videos by the way Rob. Hey Robert. We use a stink bait on catfish up here in Illinois. Our favorite is called Sonny's. We rig with a slip sinker about two foot above a treble hook with a piece of sponge on it. Dip the sponged hook in the bait and make a ball. Cast it out and leave a slack line. The catfish will pick it up and start to swim away. When the line tightens up, set the hook. Only problem is, they swallow the hook most of the time. I keep several leaders and hooks made up so all I have to do is cut the line and snap on a new leader. I like channel cats about a pound or pound and a half and cut the fillets off with an electric knife. Fry em' up, ain't nuttin' any better.

Wow that fishing hole looks just like one down by my Grandma's place in Waco, TX.. Every summer we would go for the Summer from Los Angeles.. a Pole a Red n White Ball a Hook.. we would catch Perch and Channel Cats in that Murky Water.. Talk about Fun..

us southern folks down in South Florida we used to just cut off the head skin it and leave the fens on because the tail is one of the best parts of the catfish when you fry it in a frying pan

Dang, I had never thought about re-honing my filleting knife on my truck window. It seems like common sense now that I’ve seen it but I sure had not ever thought about it. That’s a great little trick to have up your sleeve if you’re out camping and need to hone your knife a little before cleaning that big mess of crappie or catfish or bluegill that you just caught and brought back to camp.

Hey I’m from South Georgia best bait is Hotdogs and chicken gizzards but if you put it in a butter bowl or a bowl with a lid. Put the bait in the bowl put some Vinegar, Garlic salt, Garlic powder, and onion powder in the bowl. Mix it real good let it sit in a fridge you don’t use and let it rot then the best bait if you’re at the river Gar absolutely goes crazy with this so this is best for lakes and ponds

My family is from Tennessee, down in the holler lol. We never fillet our fish and always keep the tail on and fry it. Tastes so good.

Technically I use the worm to catch a brim or crappie then cut it in half and use that to catch catfish. Soooo I guess I use a worm to catch catfish 🤷🏼‍♂️

Fastest way to clean catfish, get a 30" long 2"x6" pine board and a 20d nail. Pound nail about 4" from one end in middle and at an angle toward closest end of board. When cleaning cats use good gloves and pound cats head on nail. With sharp fillet knife (of course, a Silver Stag, right Robert!), cut around head just behind gills and with skinny pliers, simply pull skin toward tail. Clean out guts and with small hand axe, cut off head. When you get good at it, one person can clean 10 cats in less than 10 minutes.

Hi rob chicken gizzards works the best for me in Trinidad when I fish for catfish. It holds On to the hook longer ,so you could catch more than one fish with one piece of bait. Love the video.

Born in north ga still live here and I eat my fish whole. I like how that man said the tails are French fries. It’s true ain’t nothing better than crunchin on some fish tails.

We use chicken livers. Also Altamaha River is the place you need to go catfishing in GA. Blue Cat -93lbs 0oz Channel Cat -44lbs 12oz Flathead -83lbs0oz All three records on that river.

Best catfish bait is live grasshoppers. Float down the river on an inner tube and fish the banks. We ended up with over 50 fish last time we went out for a few hours.

Grew up catching catfish in Louisiana, believing the little ones were better. So we just went after them. Then someone from central FL had me flip the fillet and slide the knife along the cutting board, cutting off all the red. Big catfish can taste sweet, too.
