Amy Cann was a mentor of mine back in the 1990's, and this tune absolutely rocks. I'm glad to see fiddlers out there doing it justice.

So frickin cool when you speed it up. I love it when you play fast. I just have to keep going through your videos. I keep finding such awesome stuff. You are like the Eddie Van Halen of Violin... I mean, if Paginini were still alive I might have to digress.... with all of your teaching and breaking down the nano's of nuance, I don't think a lot of folks realize (unless they search properly) just exactly how good you really are. I would love to hear you play a Caprice but I just cannot find anything. I'm sure you've done them all. If you could lead me to a Caprice (#5 is my FAVORITE!) I would LOVE to watch (and listen) to you play. I love your Piano accompany(ments).... I'd have to Google that word. Lora, Lora, Lora.....arghhhhh....

Glug glug Lora!😉 yeah,at my age you just take the plunge! That particular feast of fingering is around 14:20 near the end Lora! I luv it! Maybe in a year I will have learned this piece hmm? Steady as she goes.It is always wonderful and inspiring to have a fab carrot like this one dangling in front of me nose! Thanx for this carrot indeed!

@violundomiel Yes, it takes time to learn the 2nd position passage so that it comes with ease, but if you really want to blaze on this tune, I think it makes for the CLEANEST, FASTEST playing. (my video demo wasn't very good....I did it cold without practicing it first....on my bad violin....but you got the idea) --L

@RedDesertViolin Very cool.Thanks! I have heard this song played before by a group called E Muzeki and have tried to play along with their cd, but I have the hardest time at the faster tempo. I'm so glad I stumbled across your video. I'm hoping to get a good collection of songs together so I can start playing downtown from where I live. :)

RDV (sorry, I wish I knew your 1st name): The video tutorial was great and really helped me to learn the tune. But I wish that when you played it at the beginning, that you hadn't rushed through the second repeat of the B part. Since I learn by ear, I REALLY wanted to hear the repeat at the same speed, and the few seconds you saved wouldn't have been a deal-breaker. But your breakdown of the tune was right-on for me. Thanks!

@lp342 My former band, Leaping Lulu recorded Catharsis on their CD "The Walk Home", and it is a very good recording, but they sold out of their cd's and didn't have any others made. You could look up "Leaping Lulu" they have a webpage, and ask them for a copy. They might have a stockpile of leftover cd's, and I'm sure if they do, they'd sell you one for a reasonable price. It's a VERY good recording, but it doesn't go as fast as I do. (it's before I joined the band) Good luck! --Lora

@lp342 So apparently, the group E Muzeki has recorded Catharsis. (see above) Also, I have posted a live performance on my RedDesertFiddle channel of Catharsis....but the quality is almost unbearable. I mainly posted it because I'm playing it with Larry Unger....and he REALLY shows guitarists how this song needs to be accompanied!

bronchial1 Hey sorry for the delay. You must be talking about the little "harmonics" I added at the very end. You can find really good harmonics exactly halfway between your nut and bridge, exactly halfway. Place your finger their lightly, but bow normally. I did that on the D and G string together, which gave high D and G harmonics. Keep it up!

bronchial1 Hi, sorry, but this music is copyrighted, so I don't offer it. But it is VERY popular, and you can find it if you search google. Search for "Kate's Fake Book"....I think it is that free download. Also, you can BUY it in the Portland Collection, Volume 1.....that is an AWESOME collection of fiddle tunes...and spiral bound. It is my bible.

I did Google the piece but was looking for one that had the drones in them too but i think i might be able to do that by watching you play .I'll put on a couple of pots of tea instead of the usual one 😉. @@RedDesertViolin Hello I played solo in rehearsal once, easy, soared with with the skylarks, great. In the concert my bow decided to join the grass hoppers on the ground, hundreds of them bouncing at the end of my bow. The tune was totally destroyed, embarrassing. Funny old instrument the fiddle and human nervous system!
