The estate's expansive grounds feature meticulously designed gardens by renowned Belgian landscaper Jacques Wirtz, who is celebrated for his work on the Palais de l'Élysée and the Carrousel Garden in the Tuileries Gardens in Paris. Wirtz's landscaping philosophy of preserving and enhancing the spirit of the place is evident in the serene beauty of Château de Primard's gardens. Deneuve herself was an avid gardener, contributing to the lush greenery that surrounds the property. One of her favorite hobbies, gardening, is honored by a geranium species named after her, showcasing delicate star-shaped blooms of rich magenta.
Inside the chateau, the main residence is decorated in the splendid Directoire style, characterized by its classicism and symbols of liberty, equality, and fraternity from the French Revolution. The mansion features eight master bedrooms, a home cinema, a sauna suite, and a sprawling kitchen designed to exude quiet luxury and comfort. The interiors reflect Deneuve's refined taste and passion for collecting, with items chosen for pleasure rather than value, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Catherine Deneuve's collections of Provençal pottery, cane chairs, and vintage textiles are sprinkled throughout the chateau, adding a personal touch to the decor. In 2014, Catherine Deneuve decided to sell Château de Primard, and in 2021, hoteliers Frédéric Biousse and Guillaume Foucher transformed the property into Domaine de Fontenille, a magnificent 40-room suite hotel that honors the estate's history while providing modern comforts for guests. The hotel's primary restaurant, Églatine, is helmed by triple Michelin-starred chef Éric Frechon, who creates seasonally driven menus with produce from the garden.
