Anyone notice in that hooky pokey scene the tide washes bojack and Todd's footprints as a metaphor to never look back and just to just keep moving forward focusing on the footprints you are currently making? Or am I reading in to things?

Marcus Mlakar Maybe. But wasn’t the “keep moving forward” a flawed philosophy? At least in season 3 it was. Maybe at some point the “there’s nothing for you behind you” and “Every happily ever after has the day after happily ever ater” met and together they managed to raise “don’t stop dancing” and her brother “there’s always more show(...) until there isn’t”.

I thought the same thing. As much as we were longing for something bigger; for Bojack to somehow get the life he had as a teacher back and make all the amends he could, life just rarely works out that way. Instead he got a clean slate and another chance and there's still so much beauty to that. Even just being able to catch up and see his friends again, that means an awful lot more than it feels most of the time. They really have a lot of guts to do that, leave it on a note that asks for more without begging for it. I'll miss this show, but hopefully I can take what it expressed, learn and move on from it. Because life demands that constant forward focus from us.

*"Hey, wouldn't it be funny if this was the last time we talked to each other?".* BoJack and Diane, two people who went through so much shit together and in the end they have nothing left to say to each other, they don't need each other anymore and they're okay with that. It just kind of ends, just like the show. It's a real, down to earth ending, people come and go. Thank you for everything BoJack.

There's also the feeling Diane said (or tried to) say something to BJ when she got the message in her phone. Things didn't go "a little" wild at the party or when BoJack arrived, kinda like looking back at a place you used to live or someone you used to care so much and realize you no longer feel anything about them, even if you wished you could. So you just sit silently and watch the sky one moment with this one fella you used to hang out. Beautiful, sad and appropriate.

Im not sure thats how it goes... i think is about toxic love all over it. Bojack learned to love Diane and let himself indulge on that feeling, while Diane thought perhaps she deserved that toxic horse, because somehow they understood each other and somehow relied one on each other. That last scene is truly the one in which they let go their feelings and actually agreed to stop "loving" each other. Im not a knack reading non verbal communication, but it seemed to me that they needed one goodbye kiss, but what i am to say?
@alexanderalex288

They used each other as sounding boards to figure out their problems and what kind of people they were really supposed to be. They were in a much better place with themselves on the roof having more or less figured themselves out and changed. They were people that didn't really know or recognise each other anymore having changed so much.

@Hakajin

It reminded me of an old movie, like The Graduate or something. Totally different tonally, though. I think you could write an interesting contrast -- one is two people who impulsively ran off together and don't know what to do now, and the other is two people who have reached the end of their friendship.
@zoetropeyzy
@zoetropeyzy 4 года назад
Hakajin Yes it is the graduate and I totally see what you mean. I think there is indeed a neat contrast between the two newlyweds high off their great escape realizing for the first time that life doesn’t end after the wedding ceremony versus Diane and Bojack sitting on a rooftop watching the night sky after all their ups and downs, peacefully coming to terms with the fact that no matter what they do in their lives, life always goes on.

It's a song about how Diane and Bojack finally found peace. As their sitting looking at the stars which Diane lied about doing with her dad in season 1. That's why the ending is amazing. Just came from Bojack Horseman’s ending. Now I’m questioning why I wanna cry over a talking horse. I’m a little sad why some characters didn’t get a full ending (Hollyhock, for sure) but thinking back, a lot of these characters already had their time in the limelight, so they weren’t necessary for Bojack’s growth making it bitter-sweet. I love this show, I’ve been watching since I was 12, and I doubt I’ll find anything quite like this for the rest of my life. And now Bojack must continue to turn himself around. The creators of Bojack Horseman did something. They made more than a show. They found a way to truly touch the hearts of millions of people. To capture what the human condition is really about. We all inhabit this world in vulnerable bodies with fragile minds just trying to make sense of this weird thing we call existence. To find a way to be happy in a fleeting life so short, sometimes even cut shorter. Bojack Horseman deserves to be remembered forever.

They really pictured how some friendships end so perfectly. I have a few old friends that I don’t talk to anymore, and it didn’t end it a big, dramatic fight it just... ended. They were really different and I’m really different. People change and decide that certain people aren’t meant to be in their life anymore, and that’s completely fine. If I didn’t meet some people though, I wouldn’t be the person I am today, so I’m grateful for them and cherish the good memories. Like Diane said, “I think there are people that help you become the person that you end up being. And you can be grateful for them, even if they were never meant to be in your life forever.” 💙

i liked their friendship and i liked that the show decided to end itself on a bittersweet note. if you think about it, a lot of the show revolved around the fact that diane and bojack came together in the first place to work on bojack's book and how that book kinda kickstarted a lot of things in bojack's life to start happening again and so begun the downward spiral when he gets everything that he ever wanted and having to confront the issues that he could just blatantly ignore before. in a way, the show began with diane and bojack and the show ended with them parting ways having moved on from that time in their lives when they were entangled together (even as just friends). and it's... sad and melancholic in a way i can't really describe. the reality that some friends aren't meant to spent a lifetime together is theoretically a "downer ending" but we've spent so much time with these characters that we, the audience, have to come to terms that they've grown to the point where they don't... need each other anymore. ...:( adult friendships are so hard to come by, it's really depressing to think they will both stop maintaining contact because it's really not that easy to find people who will stand by you at your worst times in life. diane did really stick through a lot for bojack and it's sad to know that the suicide attempt was the last straw for her in ending their friendship because she felt it was too much of a hostage situation. but i guess things like that just have consequences and all bojack can really do is keep living... and move on. idk if you have different thoughts about why diane wants to stop talking to bojack, feel free to reply. i know its part of the whole "moving on" thing and trying to move past that LA self who was self destructive and whatnot but it feels wasteful to stop maintaining contact altogether. they've been through a lot together and as much as diane doesn't like bojack because of certain aspects (know too much about each other, lol), i feel like their friendship was mutually positive at times. then again, maybe i'm just biased. when i think about those times they comfort each other in their lowest points in their lives, i just think back to bojack's eulogy where he describes his relationship with his family as "drowning together". in a lot of ways, i think the same way could be used to describe bojack and diane's friendship: they were "drowning together" and that's what made diane stick around for as long as she did. its the illusion of a good friendship disguising an unhealthy co-dependency...? fuck if i know man

@gabrielageorgieva967
@gabrielageorgieva967 4 года назад
I feel like what makes their relationship so special and painful is that they could really see each other. Basically that's what their relationship was based on - on their awareness that they are drowning together. They both found this connection extremely valuable, cause they just identify with their trauma. But by the end, Diane learned that there are so many more nuances to her... and sometimes trauma just happens. And there is nothing romantic about it. It doesn't make you wiser or anything. It just fucks you up. And it doesn't matter how much you overthink it, it will never make sense. The only thing that would make sense is to move on and focus on all the other aspects of you. Whenever she is with Bojack, he still sees her as her trauma and she starts again seeing herself this way. But that's not OK anymore. She got to the point where that's unbearable, or at least unhealthy and unnecessary. It's painful cause it is what it is and there is nothing to be done. And in order to stop thinking about that part of them, they need to let go and lose someone who really sees them.

This song is about an ex-boyfriend of the singer. In relation to Bojack, you could compare it to the relationship of Bojack and Dianne (Who is now leaving Bojack for Houston), and a general wrap-up of the series from her perspective. The music video reminds us through the motif of balloons (representing happiness) that even when others send it to us (As in the music video), we will wilfully let go of it. These parts are recorded in reverse so, in a meta-analysis, you could consider it an ongoing issue that no matter how many times the singer sends their happiness we (or their ex, specifically) will reject/be unable to accept happiness as a legitimate option. And so we begin again.

I'll admit, I'm here because of Bojack Horseman. But, I realized it's not just about the series, its also about the song that tells the story of him. Bojack being Mr. Blue. Basically, "flyin high" meant the time when he was having the best time of his life- Herb, the show, the life, and admiration for him people gave that he always asked from his parents. But, in the end you just have yourself around to make you okay. No woman, no friend, or even a parent is there to be with you in the end of everything. After his rehab, he made Diane promise something, and when she failed to fulfill it just because she was in Chicago and Bojack was intoxicated because he got depressed again, she got mad because she realized he made her feel that wherever she is, he still needs her and she must consider that in every choice she makes since she cares for him, so she had a hard time trusting herself again to be where she is without hurting someone she cared for. But, Bojack realized he's already okay. He should be okay. And he must be okay, even if he's alone. That's the lesson of Bojack Horseman: No matter how bitchy life if to you, you gotta live it. You make mistakes and learn from them. You get drunk then sober. You hurt people, push them away but sometimes they're still there for you. It's good in the start, until you live life and realize what you're truly made for. You gotta survive. You gotta be okay. Even if it meant you must do everything alone. Because, you'll have no one but yourself. To blame, to love, and to care for.
