Hi sir, I really like this video about saints' names, part of the reasons I eventually became Catholic from Protestant background, which I still appreciate a lot, is faithful saints who are so Christ-like and the Catholic Church remembers them, never to be forgotten throughout ages. I took on the name Maximilian as confirmation name just this year entering the Church because I was touched by St Maximilian Kolbe's selfless sacrifice of his own life for another, this immediately touched me and he's also very devoted to the Blessed Mother, something that's new to me. I still retain my original name Isaac since there's biblical significance in relation to why my dad decided to name me that. Continue to make more educational videos. God bless you!

Fifty years ago it was sort of tradition to give the name of Mary to each girl ... middle name... or some other version .... like Virginia Marie, Regina Mary, Mary Anne etc. ... it's the way it was and it was nice. What a nice video! Thank you.

I had a devotion to the Sacred Heart ever since I was little because I assumed my parents named me after St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, and because it was encouraged in our family as well. You are correct about children living out what they were named for, if they take the time to think about it.😃 Oh - and I did foster a Marian devotion because Saint Anne is my namesake but never had a devotion to the saint herself until recently, I guess because she is revered as the patron saint of mothers and I couldn't relate haha Anyway, thanks again and more power to you!

So glad you made this video! We will be naming our first son Roman after Saint Roman Adame Rosales, a saint who was martyred during the Cristero War in Mexico. Saint Roman had great devotion to Our Lady, starting ministries in his parish that centered on Marian devotion. Roman’s middle name will be Guadalupe after our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of unborn children, to whom we entrusted our son before becoming pregnant. We can’t wait to tell him the beautiful meaning behind his name, and what better role models than St Roman and especially our Blessed Lady.

Awww so cute. As a Lebanese Catholic, all our children are named after saints. When the first name is not a saint's name, the second one is. When we are baptized, the parents are asked to choose a saint's name as a second name.

I'm named after saint Christine! I dont know if she was ever canonized by the Church but she's a convert, she was the only daughter of a gentile Leader in the third century, she defied everything to be Christian and she was brutally martyred in the year 303 i believe. I know that because Im Lebanese and she's originally from Tyre, Lebanon. And she's mostly known in the Orthodoxe culture (my mom is Orthodoxe, even tho my dad named me.) I love her!! Gabriel, you would really enjoy reading more about her and about my Patron Saint, St Rafka!!!! You can also watch Rafka's movie im sure you'll find it on youtube with english subtitles. I always recommend her movie, or st. Charbel's or even saint Neamtallah for a movie night with family (theyre all Maronite and im passionate about my Eastern Catholic Church!!!!) I love the video and all the comments. I think you may have forgotten to mention that the saints we are named after take care of us during our earthly life. And in many Latinncountries children were named after the saint whose feast day they were born on. All of my children have at least one saint’s name. I believe the old traditions were beautiful and I don’t understand why we always think that new ways are better, smarter than the old ways.

We made a point to choose saint names for all our kids. Mariel Grace (for Our Lady), Katherine Faith (St. Catherine Laboure), Jennifer Joy (St. Genevieve), and Hayden Alexander Newton (St. Alexander). Hayden is also a memorial name for a friend of my husband’s from high school. While it’s highly unlikely he’d ever get canonized, I’d like to believe our son has his intercession too.

I can relate to this. For a long time, I wanted to know the meaning of my name(s). I am Kenyan and in my country, almost every name has a meaning. So, after asking my mother for a long time, she told me the meaning of my name and after a bit of rearranging, my name means Christ's beloved warrior or Beloved Warrior of Christ. That realization is both comforting and convicting at the same time. I often find myself asking myself whether I am living as one who is named warrior or am I living like a coward? Am I bold in defending my Lord or do I shy away when faced with confrontation? I love my Lord and our most Holy Mother and do pray that I bear witness to them in the manner I am called to and in a manner most pleasing to them.

What is my name in the Book of Life? My mom was a science and english/literature teacher. So i was named venus, after the planet, the flytrap and the greek goddess, i was born/baptized (year 1964) in a very remote area in the south of the Philippines (Tabina, Zamboanga del Sur, Mindanao). Catholic priests at that time will not baptize if the name was not catholic in origin and since my mom like the name "venus" so much, the priest made a compromise to place a MARIA before venus, so i was baptized as Maria Venus.
