I have this book! Very happy after it arrived on being on pre-order for a while. It's a great traditional book. Nice that is has both English and Latin too. TAN sure sells some awesome books.
Such a great book! I ordered it immediately after watching your review. Many thanks. I have been to latin masses before and love the experience, but sadly I don't live near any parish now that has one, so this book provides my bridge to honour and celebrate ubiquitously the latin mass whenever i attend the Novus Ordo, even if the mass readings are different......its another way of enriching my holy mass experience by remote to the actual latin masses offered elsewhere afar off, when you can't get to one.....and yes its correct that the Gradual takes the place, or rather combines with the Alleluia acclamation just before the Gospel.
Thanks, this was a pretty good look at this prayer manual. As you said, this book is useless for following the Novus Ordo. I think it's safe to say almost all buyers are going to be traditional Latin Mass Catholics. I don't see very many Novus Ordo Catholics buying this, except by mistake in which case they'll likely return it. So why on earth would they include the Novus Ordo calendar alongside the traditional one? It's not going to help if you're attending an SSPX or some other tradtional chapel is it? I was wondering if it includes JPII's "Luninous Mysteries". You didn't say, but if it does who is that for? This really looks like a lovely volume. I might have purchased one myself. But if TAN is going to pepper this book with Vatican II innovations that don't fit the ethos and purpose of the book, I'll pass. It's $51.57 on Amazon right now, plus shipping. There are better options out there for that kind of money. But thanks for the review.
Vatican II is a valid council of the Church whether you like it or not. I go to both the Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo, so this book is perfect for me. Who cares if it includes post-Vatican II prayers and whatnot? Will you burst into flames if you happen to come across them? Just ignore it.
There are large print editions for some books I review. There is a channel Andy’s Catholic Book Reviews that specializes in large print as Andy is vision impaired
This book looks like you have to fight it to read it! paper looks thick and pages won’t lie flat- and cover material won’t last- all glued Great material but I will stick with my vintage leather bound - I hope this book brings joy to whoever gets it-
I’m strongly considering becoming catholic, I read the catechism and did a lot of research. I bought a few prayer books and one of the two missals you mentioned. I’m confused, is this a missal or prayer book or both? Also do missals include what’s in prayer books? Like the keys to heaven and book of catholic prayers? Sorry for all the questions
A missal specifically contains the words of the mass and all the prayers that are for any given feast or Sunday. This is a prayer book with a Sunday Missal included. Missals will have a few extra prayers such as a brief morning and evening prayer and adoration prayers but by no means do they have as many prayers as this book or key of heaven. I pray that you find joy and peace in your journey to the Catholic faith!
Another excellent review. I purchased the Little Office of Baltimore based on your review. This Manual of Prayers is next on my list. I don't like to buy books unless I know what I'm buying. So, your videos are very helpful in that way. Thanks so much!
