I'd have to disagree with this video title. Matt Fradd made some very poor points. Especially near the end with his wife/axe murder scenario, where the physical evidence suggests his wife killed someone but he "knows" it wasn't true based on his personal knowledge of his wife. But it's the most common thing in the world for people close to criminals, murderers, mass murderers, serial killers, to cling on to belief their loved one isn't guilty despite overwhelming evidence they are guilty. Or to be shocked, saying "My X could never have done such a thing!" Are we to revise the justice system to favour these claims by people close to the accused over any physical evidence? That would turn the justice system upside down, and if you want to talk about real common sense, we all recognize that's untenable and nuts. Further, it's nice to see Christians acknowledge we don't need absolute certainty to justify our conclusions. If only they would remember that when they are in apologist mode. For instance it is very common for apologists to defend God against The Problem Of Evil by suggesting the atheist (and people in general) aren't in an epistemic position to KNOW God doesn't have an overriding moral reason for what seems like gratuitous suffering. They will suddenly put great importance on merely logically possible propositions, or the prospect that "there could be some reason we aren't aware of" for what we observe - basically a case for almost radical skepticism that they should recognize as special pleading.
@tjseaney_
@tjseaney_ Месяц назад
Interesting. I ponder your idea about apologists and the problem of evil. I do think that revealing the conundrum of evil and an atheistic worldview necessary. I believe so, because they use it as an argument against the existence of God. If an atheist claims no God exists because of evil. It’s only fair, that a theist can argue there is no evil if atheism is true.
@QuintEssential-sz2wn
@QuintEssential-sz2wn Месяц назад
@@tjseaney_ Hi. First, thanks for your reply. I assume you are aware that your reply doesn't really respond to the issue I raised, which is the inconsistency and too-convenient appeal to skepticism by Christians when defending God from The Problem Of Evil/Suffering (in this case I'm referencing evidential arguments). There are various ways for the atheist to approach with their critique, but usually it's an argument based on consistency, or even just a strict internal critique, so it's not required the atheist first establish her own moral ontology. And the Christian must avoid begging the question: given the atheist is questioning the very existence of an Omni God (which is at the center of Christianity) via the argument from evil, the Christian can hardly appeal to assuming the existence of that God (or the truth of Christianity) as a rebuttal. Even C.S. Lewis cautioned Christians about some of these pitfalls in arguing for God's Goodness in this respect.

@tjseaney_
@tjseaney_ Месяц назад
I think there is a brilliancy to going with common sense. Common sense tells you that something can't come from nothing. Common sense also tells you you don't have to have certainty. If 8,000,000,000 people believe in God (excluding the other Billions already deceased) and a few million in a few era stretch don't. That seems to be empirical evidence that atheism is lunacy. Think about it, I just used the simplistic reductionistic logic of an atheist to disprove it.

@@tjseaney_ "Common sense is actually nothing more than a deposit of prejudices laid down in the mind prior to the age of eighteen."---Albert Einstein (as related by Lincoln Barnett in "Harper's Magazine" in 1948) After all, "common sense" tells "There are no such thing as invisible particles...or invisible objects...or invisible beings. Kreeft is simply begging the question. He would need to demonstrate that 'common sense' (and there is no agreed on definition of 'common sense': common sense in China or Thailand might be different from common sense in Europe) has epistemological warrant. Kreeft is trying to bypass all of the reasons not to believe in God through 'common sense' but common sense is not common sense!

Yes God exists. The kingdom of heaven exists. But first was love,.. then calling this love God came up with stories that causes conflicts. One thing of the Kingdom is there is no conflict. It’s pure and it’s formless. This is the part that is hard to grasp. It came by slowing our speed down till we became physical. Now instead of feeling love we made God in our own image. This is the trap. Yet heart (Jesus) has a set of eye that are very different to physical eyes. This is how Holy Spirit sees and vision works. It’s profound to experience. Without this experience it’s just imagery and Kingdom is not imagery. Thought disconnected from feeling (Mary) is not a real thought. Yes there OS A feeling that are real. But see it’s not plural. It is perfect Oneness. If you have feelings,.. many they are not really they are more like thoughts emotions. Yet feeling is the secret to this whole puzzle. Hemingway nailed it; All thinking men are atheist. See that the feeling thing. Feeling has profound wisdom but thinking drowns it. What happens when you in your real feeling self and so am I we unite in this seemingly invisible realm,.. that is the kingdom except it’s not invisible. You see it with the heart in you ( jesus ) but without Mary you can’t birth him at all. So you escape in history and trying to find some solace there but it’s just endless misunderstanding as Kingdom is not of space time. Just isn’t. Jesus said it few times,.. my kingdom is not of this world…. See you can’t for it into this density founded on grievance and attack…. I like the old man. Haven’t heard such a good talk in a while

@@dan_m7774 I realize that as a Catholic you were taught that Catholicism is the fulfillment of Judaism ... but that would be an insult to a Jew such as Jesus. It was the first Gnostic Christians that said that Jesus was born PERFECT to a family of Jews that practiced ONLY Judaism. So, if later in life, Jesus chose to either start a Catholic religion, or be baptized into a Catholic religion ... he would have become IMperfect. Every religious group tells their "stories" ... but they are just stories and nothing over which to become excited ... or enamored. Example ... December 2016 National Geographic Mary The most powerful woman in the world During the Reformation (1517-1648), the idea of Mary as intercessor fell out of favor with Protestants, who advocated going straight to God in prayer.
