I really struggled with the idea of divine hiddenness myself. What changed it for me was a few realizations I’ll mention one. If God is immaterial, which God is immaterial because material is caused and contingent. It follows that I shouldn’t expect God to be perceived in His very Person through sense perception. Meaning, I shouldn’t expect to see God with my eyes. By contrast, it’s startling that billions of people have a sensus divinitatis (sense of the Divine) through intuition. How on earth could that be? It makes no sense if God didn’t exist that billions of people would believe He does. I think one must admit this empirical evidence shows it is possible that God exists. If it’s possible that a maximally great being like God exists, certainly He would be necessary in any possible world. Therefore, if you maintain a position that the world is rational it is impossible that God does not exist. Back to the idea of hiddenness. What I realized is that God isn’t hidden, rather I was skeptical about the clear evidence He had provided.

Some have. Not most. In fact, in the grand scheme of things, most of the Catholic religious have indeed led holy lives throughout the centuries. The fruits of their holy living include creating many of today's social support networks, hospitals, charitable institutions as well as the university system. They have produced many educated and holy secular men and women who continue to spread with word of God.
