What is Sola Scriptura? The Catholic Church's understanding of Scripture and Tradition is very different than most Protestant denominations.
In this episode, we discuss what is Sola Scriptura (using a Protestant Theologian's definition), the formation of the Bible, and Interpretation.

So it seems then that the Catholics assume that the traditions spoken by the Apostles before the inscripturation of the word of God was somehow DIFFERENT than what was eventually God-breathed into written form. Can they demonstrate this?

Going against sola scriptura, the Catholic Church makes it easier to introduce its own teachings that are not found in Scripture. For instance, some of those unscriptural teachings include... 1. worshiping inanimate objects such as statues and relics. 2. the immaculate conception of Mary. 3. the belief that the Father, Son, and holy spirit are one in substance, nature, and essence. 4. the prohibiting single priests from marrying. 5. the belief that Mary is the mother of God. 6. the ignoring of what Jesus said about not calling anyone 'Father' in a spiritual or religious sense. 7. the belief that the Father, Son, and holy spirit make up the same "one God." 8. the worship of Mary. 9. praying to Mary. 10. the perpetual virginity of Mary.

@@SaintsintheParishPodcast "We don’t worship inanimate objects nor do we worship Mary." Catholics know little about what the Bible teaches and even less about what Catholic doctrine teaches. For instance, 1. Catholics deny worshiping inanimate objects. However, the Catholic Encyclopedia says: "A certain *worship* may be offered to *inanimate objects,* such as the relics of a martyr, the Cross of Christ, the Crown of Thorns, or even the statue or picture of a saint." 2. Catholics deny worshiping Mary, yet, the Catholic Encyclopedia says: "As the Blessed Virgin has a separate and absolutely super-eminent rank among the saints, the worship paid to her is called hyperdulia." So, do Catholics worship inanimate objects? YES. Do Catholics worship Mary? YES.
@SaintsintheParishPodcast
@SaintsintheParishPodcast Месяц назад
You are confusing the word "Worship" "Dulia vs. Hyperdula" and "Latria." Dulia is honor paid to the saints. Hyperdulia is "super" honor paid to Mary for her special role ordained by God. Latria is WORSHIP proper, which is paid only to the Triune God. A better translation for "Dulia" is veneration, not worship. "Latria" literally means worship.
@SaintsintheParishPodcast
@SaintsintheParishPodcast Месяц назад
These are all different levels and dulia and hyperdulia are on a completely different plain that Latria. Latria is only worship as we commonly understand. Catholics do not give Latria to anyone but God alone. Only God alone is worshipped.

Sola Scriptura is actually one of the easiest doctrines to demonstrate from scripture, and it can be done using a single verse. 1 Corinthians 4:6 - “…in us (Paul and Apollos) you may learn not to go beyond what is written…” (Cf. Isaiah 8:20, Luke 16:29, 2 Peter 1:19-21, Psalm 19:7) In this passage, Paul is submitting himself and Apollos as examples to be followed of servants of Christ and faithful stewards of the gospel who do everything according to the God-breathed word of God (2 Timothy 3:16), and nothing beyond it (Cf. 2 Timothy 2:15). This submission demonstrates that the traditions that they (the apostles) spoke, as well as their writings that would eventually form the canon of the New Testament (Cf. 2 Thessalonians 2:15, 3:6, 1 Corinthians 11:2, 1 Corinthians 15:4 referring to the books of Matthew and Mark) were in accordance with what has been written by the prophets who came before them. Furthermore, so long as they were in submission to the word of God (what has been written), they are innocent of the judgment of any human court (1 Corinthians 4:3). Paul is explaining that what has been written (scripture) forms the basis of our judgment (Cf. Acts 17:11, Mark 7:6-9). It is the same concept expressed in John 7:24, "do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." And how do we know that we are judging with a righteous judgment? When it is in accordance with what has been written. And this is not a new concept, Isaiah spoke of this in Isaiah 8:20, "to the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn." Over and over again, it is the word of God (both written and spoken) that is said to be the basis for truth, and it is the ultimate authority that stands over all. John 17:17 - Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth (Cf. John 15:3) Proverbs 30:6 - Do not add to His words Lest He reprove you, and you be proved a liar. Deuteronomy 4:2 - You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God which I am commanding you. Deuteronomy 12:32 - Whatever I am commanding you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it. Revelation 22:18 - I bear witness to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book. The word of God must never be transgressed for the sake of any tradition! Matthew 15:3 - Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? Colossians 2:8 - See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, and not according to Christ. *Therefore, if any tradition is said to be on equal grounds with scripture, it MUST be shown to be God’s word, according to what has been written, and the instant someone attempts to do so, they admit scripture is the ultimate authority.*

@@mitchellosmer1293 The Catholic Bible is based on the Greek Septuagint version, which includes these additional books. If you look at the writings of the New Testament, when they are referencing the Old Testament they (in the vast majority of cases), used text from the Septuagint version of the OT. That is to say, Jesus and the apostles, except when reading from the temple scrolls (which were in Hebrew, not Greek) used the version that Catholics use. Martin Luther found that this version of the Bible didn't match his personal theology, for whatever that's worth, and so he rejected those books. That's why.

If you rely on yourself, you ignore the people God worked through to spread his teachings. St. Thomas Aquinas got on his knees and prayed in-between debate sessions on the Eucharist and God revealed that his teaching was correct. The early church fathers believed in the authority of the vicar of Christ, as well as the true presence of Jesus in the eucharist (as did Martin luther). But that isnt Sola Scriptura. It rather sounds like Nuda Scriptura. Sola Scriptura basically does NOT mean the Scriptures are the only one measure of faith or even only authority. It just means it is the only infallible authority the tradition must be derived from, and that tradition is as much true as it is based on the Scripture. So if the Tradition is based on the infallible Scriptures, it borrows its infallibility. The idea that the tradition is just helpful or that no tradition is needed is Nuda Scriptura.

(Where is the scripture?) >>>>Catholicism is an amalgomation religion - a mixture of Greek and Babyloniam mythologies with Christianity. The result is something that is not Christian at it's core. It places Mary higher in authority than Jesus and teaches that you can only get to Jesus through Mary. They make Mary into a deity. NOTICE--NOT ONE QUOTE FROM THE HOLY WORD of GOD!!!! I CAN DEBUNK every one with the Holy Bible!!! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ----Isaiah 8:20 To the teaching and to the testimony!
