I've only been a Catholic for 6 years, but I remember watching Fultun Sheen way back in 1963 or 1964 downstairs in the basement on a small black and white TV. I was amazed by the clothes he wore, but more so by how smart and kind he seemed. I was Presbyterian then, but watching and listening to him made a lasting impression on me and I credit him as one of the influences who led me eventually to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.
Still as fresh to us today in the 21st century as the day Fulton Sheen spoke these words. So engaging and captivating that I listen and re-listen many times over and keep committing some of his phrases to memory. I'm so blessed dear Venerable Archbishop! Pray for us and for the conversion of souls.
BISHOP SHEEN YES!!!! I just love him because he is so timeless. All of what I have seen of him continues to be relevant 40-50-60 years after his preaching airs. He has remarkable life story as well. There are several biographical documentaries about him produced by those seeking the cause for his cannonization that are just fascinating. He was really the father of sharing the faith in modern media.
Peace. Yes, he is timeless. But with the modern idea of measuring 'epochs' by the decade; so many do not realize Bishop Sheen is extremely relevant. There is so much pressure, even by well meaning Catholic younger teachers of the faith in recent history - to get with the 'modern' times; treating recent, even well respected 'walk the walk,' teachers as relics of the past. There is a tremendous loss of continuity because of the good intention of not being a 'turn off,' resulting even by well intentioned respected 'modern' teachers missing or diminishing the many aspects of the crisis in The Church --- being less than assertive in teaching, especially within The Church, proper guidance for one's words and actions to be a 'sign of contradiction,' to the culture and compromised Church. And there is the idea that those who are teaching more assertively are old fashioned 'traditionalists,' who don't understand 'modern' times and culture. The crisis in The Church will not be remedied unless we receive more grace filled courage from The Holy Spirit.
Well done New Catholic Generation. I recall watching Bishop Sheen on the old black and white zenith television as a child. I was not then Catholic. AND I knew even as a child, there was something marvelous and good about him.
Archbishop Sheen was originally from my diocese and we have a pretty awesome museum here if you guys are ever in Illinois you should definitely some check it out!
I used to watch 1hr videos of Venerable bishop fulton j. sheen like 3 times a day every day and it was such a joy. I love Him. I shared so many of his videos to my highschool teachers and classmates in 9th grade and I still watch him
love the lettering on that tv show . and their clothing. its a sign that they appreciated quality. well that... and the fact that they recognized a bishop. people were smarter back then i think.
The renewed interest in Archbishop Sheen is due to the total lack of current leadership in the modern Church. Read his books, watch his videos! Uncle Fulton explains it all. Brilliant and massively instructive, caring and devout, I highly recommend him. Cute to see these kids so taken with him. He is providing what we are all seeking.
I just really enjoy just binge watching Venerable Fulton Sheen videos. I've learned so much from him! He's so amazing! Thank you for sharing your love for him and thus giving other people the opportunity to enrich their faith by his incredible work! I also recommend his books too! :D

Bishop Fulton Sheen is amazing. I remember watching one of two of his videos when I heard one of one friends talk about him and I didn't pay much attention. The topics did not interest me that much and I was having other problems. Watching this video though made me go back to watching his videos and oh my goodness, would I have loved to have seen one of his videos back in college. I also watched the psychoanalyst one and it moved me. It really did. Thank you for suggesting it and for this wonderful video. You guys rock :).

Fulton Sheen said the church would not be destroyed from the out side but from the inside, and he was right . And his voice was Iike that because he smoked a pack to two packs of cigarettes a day.
Venerable Fulton John Sheen (born Peter John Sheen, May 8, 1895 - December 9, 1979) was an American bishop (later archbishop) of the Catholic Church known for his preaching and especially his work on television and radio. His cause for canonization as a saint was officially opened in 2002. In June 2012, Pope Benedict XVI officially recognized a decree from the Congregation for the Causes of Saints stating that he lived a life of "heroic virtues" - a major step towards beatification - so he is now referred to as "Venerable." Ordained a priest of the Diocese of Peoria in 1919, Sheen quickly became a renowned theologian, earning the Cardinal Mercier Prize for International Philosophy in 1923. He went on to teach theology and philosophy at The Catholic University of America as well as acting as a parish priest before being appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of New York in 1951. He held this position until 1966 when he was made the Bishop of Rochester from October 21, 1966, to October 6, 1969, when he resigned and was made the Archbishop of the Titular See of Newport, Wales. For 20 years as Father, later Monsignor, Sheen hosted the night-time radio program The Catholic Hour (1930-1950) before moving to television and presenting Life Is Worth Living (1951-1957). Sheen's final presenting role was on the syndicated The Fulton Sheen Program (1961-1968) with a format very similar to that of the earlier Life is Worth Living show. For this work, Sheen twice won an Emmy Award for Most Outstanding Television Personality, and was featured on the cover of Time Magazine. Starting in 2009, his shows were being re-broadcast on the EWTN and the Trinity Broadcasting Network's Church Channel cable networks. Due to his contribution to televised preaching Sheen is often referred to as one of the first televangelists.
I have watched many of his videos on RU-vid, since he died a little over a decade before I was born. He truly is worthy of being declared Venerable by Holy Mother Church.

I've heard so much about Fulton Sheen second hand being cited by various Catholics. Thank you for the reminder that I really need to look more into him myself. The appreciated Joseph's comments on the first clip and I am also reminded of Father John Riccardo, who often uses the image of "Wasting time with God" to describe good prayer life (always clarifying that he does not mean that it is a waste of time to pray, but that the mark of a good friendship is one where you don't care what you do or talk about with a good friend, you are just happy to be 'waste time' together). That being said, I know you're all apart for the summer right now, but would you make a note to look into panel discussing John Riccardo's "Christ is the Answer" and/or other great Catholic programming provided by Catholic radio stations like Ave Maria Radio and EWTN Radio (most of them also available as podcasts these days of course). It wasn't until recently that I discovered the wealth of Catholic teaching and news that I could pick up instead of background noise on my daily commute.
I remember when I saw that in high school and I wanted to make a response video to it, but I wasn't that technologically advanced, nor did I take the time necessary to undertake such a feat. Great suggestion!

Sheen. And you recognize Mother Angelica in another video. And you respect others not of your generation who are well respected. New Catholic Generation and other youth groups will be a great liaison for what The Divine Revelation of God; in truth, beauty, and goodness actually teaches. There is someone we both know and love who talks about the following but uses too much angry divisive rhetoric. He is well meaning, though. We need someone who can convey these important apropos things, to help raise awareness; with courage, but not sound like an angry complainer all of the time. My hope, though, is for a deeper understanding of how the application of Catholic Teaching has been watered down, even by well meaning well respected persons who see polemics & negativity of the past and have developed so much fear of it that they have become less than assertive. Leo xiii, Pious x, Pious xii, Bishop Sheen, John Cardinal O'Connor, Dietrich & Alice von Hildebrand, Fr. Mitch Pacwa on EWTN (with a special mention of the historical documentary "A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing") --- are seen as old fashioned finger wagging turn offs by many, even well meaning good people in The Church. Yes, it is true; with loving compassion, assertiveness for truth, beauty, and goodness in a 'politically correct' divisive angry world must , be very creative. Discussions, rhetorical arguments, and witness should *always* be out of true Godly loving concern for others - never to just win a discussion point. And to top this difficult situation off; the increased rapid communication recently has a tendency to look at recent history as something of the past. A very learned well meaning video evangelist referring to John Paul ii used a term like, 'in his day,' with the portrayal as if he witness as something long ago to be gleaned. This type of thing is hurting the continuity with extremely relevant apropos solemn lessons of just what has transpired in The Church and the world. Out of great love of souls in our propagandized divisive angry world & Church - too much fear of being a turn off has developed - which is actually hurting souls that could be helped otherwise. And, yes, never go off in projecting a fearful 'chicken little, the sky is falling,' of course. But, unless we develop a Holy Spirit inspired compassionate assertive witness to not only shine the Lamp of Christ to show the beauty of God and being under His Wing; but also expose the real darkness that has infiltrated The Church. Bishop Sheen, Dietrich & Alice von Hildebrand, John Cardinal O'Connor, and the relatively ignored persons like them in our day are far from, 'wacko conspiracy theorists.' Well, I've gone on and on again; but so many do not realize the dangerous things happening in The Church herself. Yes, we have hope and confidence of Christ's Promise that the gates of hell will not prevail against her; but she is very much like the divided Temple and Synagogues of the time of The Incarnation of Jesus Christ. So many think these real consequences of the infiltration of the Church are just alarmist 'pish posh.,' that it has already been addressed and those exhibiting questionable things are just misunderstood; and those who question this should just take the white wash explanations and stop being 'old school,' holding on to the past tenacious traditionalists. That these, (while yes make mistakes & some are truly angry divisive persons) --- that these are alarmist will meaning persons who just don't get the new generation New Evangelization. Don't we need more continuity will those who suffered for the Faith as this current heartbreaking situation transpired? __ "Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. In a more specific direction, how about the book "The Ratzinger Report"? I have found this book to be very balanced but also informative about the developments after Vatican II.
