Cathy McGowan, host of "Ready Steady Go" in the UK and famous as "the Queen of Mod", appears as a contestant on "To Tell the Truth" in this segment from 1964 with host Bud Collyer and panelists Tom Poston, Peggy Cass, Orson Bean, and Kitty Carlisle.

If Orson had asked the real Cathy what "Radio-diffusion" was, she would have corrected him in saying that it was "Rediffusion", which not only provided "cable radio" in Britain at the time, but also produced "Ready, Steady Go", which starred Cathy.

In 1968 Redifusion (the TV station) merged with ABC (the UK station, not the US one) to form Thames Television, that is now owned by… the same Fremantle that acquired Goodson-Todman! #itsasmallworld

In the UK ABC television had the Saturday and Sunday franchises of both the Midland and the North regions of the Independent Television Authority from 1956 until 1968. They made lots of programmes for the ITV network and many were shown abroad too, most notably 'The Avengers'.

i thought it was number 1 also simply because she has very straight hair which is curled under at the tips, and long bangs (fringe), which was definitely part of the look back then. the other 2 gals had a wave to their hair.

I suspect Cathy McGowan, along with cohost Keith Fordyce, and the producer of "Ready, Steady, Go!", Elkan Allen, were probably in New York at the time to try to convince an American TV network to pick up the series.

Who thought up the concept of THE TRENDSETTER, I find it odious and I realize we are all following advertising, being as we are simultaneously being part of and making the zeitgeist...I think number 2 was wasted as a stewardess, I thought she was a terrific actress! Namaste, Z

What makes you think that AHDN quote from the ad agency scene was meant to be a reference to Cathy McGowan? I wasn't aware the Beatles didn't like her, or would want to say anything mean about her, especially so publicly. The fictitious celebrity 'teenager' they were talking about, shown in the photo in that scene, had a different name and didn't look anything like Cathy - she was actually blonde, IIRC.

@@papercup2517 Relax! AHDN was entirely fictitious, including the characterizations of the Beatles themselves. So if the fictitious Beatles didn't like Susan in the film, that doesn't mean the real life Beatles didn't like Cathy. According to several sources, "Susan Campy" IS modeled after Cathy McGowan.
