I’m pretty sure everybody can tell she’s trying very hard to hold her anger in and be friendly but.. honestly her trying to be friendly is about as friendly as a chainsaw
i love heathers, beetlejuice, mean girls, and cats dont dance...so idk what to say anymore..but mostly.. *Shut up, max.* LONG LIVE CATS DONT DANCE! OwO
When Max is get hot in this dimple ice I start blushing and then I start to act like Miss dimple big and loud it's going to be big when they fall they would fall and they're going to fall and they're going to follow their telephone big
Never in my life have I ever found a bad guy that I love so perfectly. Normally I would resort to one of my favorite Disney Villains, but Darla literally is just so interesting in my opinion. Yeah while the concept of a little bratty character has been made many times before, Darla has a unique design, amazing voice actor, and a perfectly well done character. While most brats would either act way too innocent and annoying where they aren’t likable, they made Darla the perfect amount of a villain because of how much of an obstacle she can be. I love the animation of her portrayal in this song and the smooth frames makes it so intense with all the details! This truly is an amazing movie that definitely deserves a lot more praise than it did back then. The story is absolutely intriguing and nobody comes off as annoying or stupid. I’ve seen a lot of animated movies but this one gives off an amazing vibe. Like as if we can jump into the picture and join them. Very rarely do I see movies do that where they give off some amazing energy to get the crowd in.
2:21 I love that moment where Danny notices and is appropriately confused by what is essentially an animation error with Max being in two different locations in this scene. Really shows how Mark Dindal had a knack for having his characters lean on the 4th wall even before Emperor's New Groove.
There's a lot of spoiled girl as a bully/villain characters in animation, but Darla and Princess Morbucks are definitely the best villains to showcase that!
I just love the part where she's walking down the stairway of hands in the first part. The amazing creativity, and hours it must have taken to animate that sequence is something hard to fathom... And the part where Darla emerges from the ground like an atom bomb; which is a notable thing happening the background, during the era in which this film is set in, was a very nice touch, and very beautifully animated. This film is always a treat to watch!
I love all of these things, but I especially I love the hearts in part 2. It shows her fake personality shown to the public. If people walk in to her drawing a heart around two cats, they won’t think she’s plotting to kill them.
Whichever artist/animator/storyboarder came up with the bomb animation/idea at 03:52 deserves major kudos. Super short animation but excellent idea and execution.
I always remember the tiny little animation details in Darla's acting. At 3:19 when she says "around" her whole body bounces around in anger, and it's such a strange little detail. They consistently made sure that all of her acting was pretty unique and psychotic. For example, at 3:52, they could've easily made her move more in the Bald Mountain pose, but instead decided to hold it to show just how committed she is to the pose.
looks like the animators make her twitch like that to match the voice actors vibrato. she did the same movement when she says “today” as well cause of the singing
One time a horrible ex boyfriend of mine showed me this video. He kept comparing me to Darla. Saying that all I was good for was being "big and loud" like her. He was truly a horrible, nasty, person whose only aim was to bring me down. Too bad for him I grew quite fond of Darla, and this song in particular, when I watched the movie for the first time. Darla would have never let any man treat her like how this man treated me. She's funny, boisterous, talented, and although absolutely insane, a fantastic villian...and its nice to see so many people took a shine to her as well ❤
@@Broadwaygirl918 can you do this video next? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z_trSIBCgF0.html&feature=share You can put these songs in this video. Here's the list: 1. Magic Dance from Labyrinth 2. As The World Falls Down from Labyrinth 3. Chilly Down from Labyrinth 4. The Curve Of The World from It's A Big Big World
I grew up on Shirley Temple’s movies and loved them deeply when I was a kid… Having her parodied as a villain is *brilliant*. Darla Dimple is terrifying, hilarious, and I love her to death.
The sinister heart shapes being hidden everywhere in the imaginary sequence is so good, like in chunks of rock (3:53) and water ripples (4:10, 4:14)--oh my gosh the highlights on the whirlpool are all hearts too!! 4:22
I love the first version of the song showing Darla really has IT. Like she knows she's one of the best. Even at such a young age. She's the bad guy but she's talented 💥
@@Denoodle8209 um..your right now that i think of it... That seems *kinda* fitting but no one really mentioned steven universe? But whatever no big deal. atleast people still like it and know about it. I've seen lots of cartoons(brace face, winx, etc) get forgotten easily XD
God…. This animation is so fluid- it makes my animation student heart sob with both amazement and also wondering the amount of head in hands groans happened throughout this
You can blame Warner Brothers for that. Cat's Don't Dance was the first (and last) animated film for Turner Feature Animation, a subsidiary of Hannah-Barbera. Right when the film was completed, Hannah-Barbera was bought by Warner Brothers who had their own animated film coming out at the time: Quest for Camelot. So, because C.D.D. wasn't THEIR movie, WB's marketing dept. gave it very little promotion and thus, few went to see it because almost nobody knew about it. 😔
Darla’s song was so catchy for me as a kid! I couldn’t help but love and hate her because she was so tiny and cute, but bratty and evil 🤣 The voice actress that sang this did an amazing and powerful job 👌🏼💜
Hey. Hey Disney. Did you- Did you know you could do this? With 2d animation you you an do this kind of magnificent stuff. I get the you're /kinda/ on a live action high right now and it's really working for you but Live action is lazy. Yea. I said it. It's cheap and lazy. You have fucking talented animators that are probably dying to animate something as stylized and theatrical as this again. Maybe throw a dog a bone?
Madison Waycaster OHHHH. yeah i agree with you!! i love 2d animated films too, and i’m really sad that they’re dying out :( my favourite one from disney is oliver and company
I KNOW RIGHT. I Think and this is only my opinion is that 3D animation of disney style is hella ugly. Like the point of 2D cartoons is to do it unnatural. When you step it up to something more realistic it's wrong. I literally cringed at wreck it Ralph 2 when the 2D animated princesses were 3D. This ain't it sis
This is the scene that truly cemented Darla as one of the greatest animated villains. Though really, she's a joy throughout the whole movie. She's just one of those characters who demands attention whenever they're on screen. She's devilish, she's selfish, she's unhinged, she's even kind of cute at times, though few and far between. Basically, everything a villain should be.
I think the funniest thing is that they did follow her “advice” in the end, they made it big and loud. Another funny thing is that Darla went out with her own advice, she went out big and loud
This animation is amazing! They were able to show her as sweet at first glance, but inside she is a nervous and angry person. We literally see her nervous movements and facial expressions. It's amazing❤❤
It would be kinda cool. But for some reason i feel like someone would just dislike the video for no reason as always with youtube. (Its normal not to like a video but just subscribing so you can get notified of someones videos only so u can dislike them quickly as possible is kinda rude- why am i even talking about this lol)
When I was like 6 years old, my grandmother had a VHS player (one of the last ones because it was 2009) and she had like six VHS tapes. One of them being this film. I LOVED this film. Everytime I came over I would watch it. Then, 7 years pass and I find out that this film was criminally underrated. I was so upset because this film was great! The animation was excellent, the story was cool, the singing and voice acting was fantastic. What went wrong?
Gotta say. I am very impressed by that voice actor. Her singing is amazing and the way she can show darlas personality through her voice is incredible. And she was only 12 when doing this!
there are so many great flourishes to the animation loke the snappiness of her expression after she pushes Max, the way the camera follows the lipstick on the mirror and shakes a bit i love it
This movie was my childhood. I swear I went thru 3 VHS copies of this, The Thief and the Cobbler and Nightmare Before Christmas. mid 90's animation was gold!
I know probably a lot of people know this but South Park made a reference to this scene of the song 3:49 during Cartman’s dumbo like sequence with Kyle replacing Darla.
Interesting depiction of electrolysis. Something done one several golden age stars, (mostly women.) it gave them a more attractive hairline. I know it’s being used as a gag for how crazy Darla is, but it was a real thing.
It failed due to lack of promotion. The majority of individuals who watched it were fond of it, it's just that it is too obscure, and not a ton of people are aware of its existence. Its frequent references in other media, plus a specific My Little Pony character did popularize it in recent years, however.
