A walk up to two Wainwright Fells in the Lake District, Birkhouse Moor (718m) and Catstye Cam (890m)
The walk starts from the Pay and Display Car park in Glenridding next to Ullswater and follows the path which runs beside Mires Beck up to the North Top of Birkhouse Moor before following the wall to the highest point of the fell at 718m. From Birkhouse Moor we follow the path to the " hole in the wall" before heading to Red Tarn. We take a well earned break at the Tarn before the climb up to the superb summit of Catstye Cam( 890m)
The views from Catstye Cam are really good.
From Catstye Cam we descend to the path which runs beside Red Tarn Beck and follow this back to Glenridding. Distance is around 7 miles.

Fabulous Eddie. Put a big smile on my face. Great video as always and beautiful weather. My son was over from Denmark last year and we did 2 walks in the Lakes. This was one of them! The only difference was that we ended by sitting outside the Travellers Rest having a pint in the glorious sunshine! Memories that will be with me till my dying day. Thanks for posting.

Well done Eddie another great video. I remember climbing Castye Cam a few years ago and I left my sunglasses on the summit! Found myself checking your video to see if they are still there ... sadly not. Great to meet up with you and Carol for our pub meal in the evening. Must do it again sometime.

Hi Dave, thanks. I'm afraid we didn't come across your sunglasses on the summit of Catstye Cam, although we did see a cool looking Sheep with shades on, as we headed down, ha! This was a cracking walk topped off by a really nice evening with you and Pat. We will definitely have to do it again sometime. Thanks again for watching & commenting, it is appreciated. Take care & Best Wishes. Eddie & Carol

I did it last summer, at the weekend forgetting until I got there it was a Bank Holiday weekend! I went up via Landy's Tarn but ended up on the main track, which I wanted to avoid with all the day-tripper's. Lovely weather for a hike and nice to still see a bit of snow on Helvellyn and I found it a nice walk to Catstye Cam a with a quieter and (imo) better summit view than Helvellyn too. Nice walk and a nice meet up for a drink and meal to finish off a great day, cheers Alan

Hi Alan, I can just imagine how busy it would have been when you went on the Bank Holiday. It is a really nice walk with superb views all the way. Catstye Cam is a great summit with stunning views. We both agreed it is a walk we will be doing again as we both really enjoyed the day. We met Dave & Pat purely by chance the previous evening and agreed to meet up for a meal. A nice evening to round off a great day. Thanks for watching & commenting Alan it is always appreciated. Take Care. Cheers. Eddie. ( We were on Windy Gyle in the Cheviots this morning, never saw anyone until we got to the summit) Another really nice walk.

Hi Eddie, hi Carol, wonderful video, you had very similar weather to what I had when I did Helvellyn and Catstye Cam. Thank you so much for sharing your day as always. I'm off to to Illgill Head and Whin Rigg tomorrow from Miterdale via Burnmoor Lodge. Hopefully I get similar weather to what you had on this one. Cheers Dave

Many thanks Eddie. Fantastic weather, fantastic views all around. Really enjoyed your video. Birkhouse Moor is another one for the "must-do list" I think. A bit of a sad looking summit with such an untidy pile of stones! But the views sure make up for it. Last time I was in that area, I was informed by a lady walker familiar with the area that the correct pronunciation is Catst-i Cam (short 'i') not Catst-eye Cam. I don't know if she was right or not. But I'll stick with Catst-eye Cam. All the best.

Hi Peter, it is a great walk with stunning views all the way. I agree with your description of Birkhouse Moor Summit, but as you have said, the views make up for it. Like you, I have heard Catstye Cam pronounced a couple of different ways and I am still not sure on the correct way to pronounce it, either way, it is a superb vantage point with stunning views. Thanks for watching & commenting Peter, it is always appreciated. Take care. Cheers. Eddie.

Great video, Eddie, and you got your usual weather too! Everything looks great in the sunshine but great visibility is another bonus. I know I'm irish but "The hole in the wall" didn't seem to have a hole!! I wondered when you started up the edge of Catstye Cam were you tempted to do Swirrel edge? I think the way Carol was ascending she was definitely not thinking that way!! Great route and a lovely way to end the day too. Regards, Ashley
@eddiecaisley5746
@eddiecaisley5746 Год назад
Thanks Ashley, the actual "Hole in the wall" was just up the rocky bit next to the Stile. It is often mentioned as the start of the route to Striding Edge. I was tempted to continue along Swirral Edge and up to Helvellyn, but will save that for another day. Carol was definitely on a mission heading up the final section to Catstye Cam, I stopped to change batteries in the camera and when I turned around, she was half way up! A great route we both said we would do again. Thanks again for watching & commenting Ashley, it is appreciated. ( It is getting closer for your trip to the Lakes) Take care. Cheers. Eddie.

@@eddiecaisley5746 Great route indeed. I have a spreadsheet that I must email to you. Its a working plan that can be totally flexible. You can advise if the routes are viable! I did a short recorded walk yesterday so will blitz a video out at the weekend. We are off on sat week on a Baltic Cruise for 12 days so there will be a mountain of footage from that. Ashley

Hi, I am hoping to do this on Monday, weather permitting. When you mention the hole in the wall, do you go through it so that the wall is on your right or do you stay on the path and keep it to your left. I have plotted the map, not entirely sure if you went to the other side of the wall. I was hoping to pop down to the tarn, and let the dog have a swim too
@eddiecaisley5746
@eddiecaisley5746 21 день назад
Hi, you don't need to cross the stile. Stay on the path and keep the wall & stile to your left. We just crossed over the wall to take some photos etc. We then crossed back over the wall on to the path to continue the route. The path down to the tarn is really good and easy to follow, your dog should enjoy swimming in the tarn. Thanks for watching, it is appreciated. Take care. Cheers. Eddie.
