Great Dodd, Watson's Dodd, Stybarrow Dodd & Hart Side. Lake District. 13th May 2023

A walk in the Eastern Lake District up to four Wainwright Fells.
We were joined on the walk by my brother Gary.
The walk starts from the parking area at High Row near Dockray and first heads along The Old Coach Road for approx. half a mile before turning left to start the Climb up to Great Dodd.
We follow the grassy path, crossing some boggy sections along the way up to Great Dodd (857m) We had superb views on the way up, made even better by a temperature inversion in the valleys below.
The views from Great Dodd summit were stunning with all the major fells on view, such as Scafell Pike, Great Gable etc.
From Great Dodd we follow the clear path to Watson's Dodd (789m) then Stybarrow Dodd (843m)
From Stybarrow Dodd we follow the ridge to Hart Side (756m)
From Hart Side we visit Birkett Fell before descending to Dowthwaitehead and then follow the path through fields back to High Row.
Distance is around 9 miles.
Gary & myself had our brother Eric in our thoughts on this walk as he sadly passed away suddenly on 27th December 2022 at the age of 56. The last time I walked in The Lake District with my brothers was January 2019 when we went up to Helvellyn. Eric was with us on the Helvellyn walk. He is greatly missed by all who knew him.

Hi Eddie and Carol, another enjoyable vlog on a stunning day. I have just returned from a fortnight in the Lakes. On the day of your walk I was going up Scafell Pike via the Corridor route. I experienced the same amazing cloud inversion at Styhead Tarn. Funnily enough I met another walker near there and we were discussing your channel. Hi Paul, Scafell Pike via The Corridor Route is a a great route, I bet the inversion at Styhead Tarn was spectacular. It is good to hear such positive comments about my channel and certainly gives me the motivation to keep producing the videos. I often get comments about the good weather on our walks, we must hit on lucky with the sunshine, ha! We really enjoyed this walk up to Great Dodd etc it was a walk with great views and fairly straight forward paths to follow and of course good weather! Another cracking video, thanks for posting. Did (pretty much) the same route a year ago, but did an out and back to Raise before heading over to Hart Side. Like you, we had superb views! The path back to Dowthwaitehead was the wettest most boggy path I think I've ever walked on, was glad to reach the farm and the road back to High Row. That said, it looked okay for you!

Hi Gavin, thanks. It is a really good walk with cracking views. We did consider going over to Raise after Stybarrow Dodd like you did, but decided to leave it for another day. The amount of times I have looked at these and thought should I go from Dockray, Glenridding or Thirlmere, as I need to do Whiteside and Raise as well. After much mulling about, I then I leave it and do something else instead. Good to see you out with your brother and that mist lifted very quickly, the amazing views from Great Dodd! Looked nice easy walking once you had made the initial assent with brilliant views all around. What a brilliant walk that looked and so quiet from the Dockray end as well, mind made up I think. Nice to remember your other brother on this walk and nice to see the weather came out for him too, cheers Alan

Hi Alan, it is a really nice walk, a few boggy bits, but nothing too bad. We found it good walking with grassy paths all the way. The views were stunning and it is definitely a walk we will be doing again sometime. We have done Stybarrow & Watson's Dodd before, going up the Thirlmere side via Sticks Pass. We found this route much better. It was good to have my brother, Gary, with us on the walk and we had our other brother, Eric, in our thoughts. We were doing those the same day! We parked at the mining museum and then got a taxi to Glenridding, then did birkhouse moor, Catstycam, Helvelyn and all the way along that ridge. The inversion in the morning was epic!

Hi Aahley, thanks. It was a cracking walk in great weather, we all had a great day. It was good to have my brother Gary with us. He enjoyed the day. You will be tired after the delay in getting home, unbelievable how they cancelled your flight so late! Hope you took plenty of footage while you where away. We are really looking forward to our holiday now, it will be nice to get away abroad again. We were in Edinburgh last Tuesday seeing Bruce Springsteen at Murrayfield Stadium, it was a great concert. @@eddiecaisley5746 You seem to like the old rockers!! I'm a bit more sedate in my music taste but "Born in the USA is a bit of a classic". Got great footage away for about 10 videos but when am I going to get to make them?! The 12 day holiday became 14 days as we couldn't get a flight home and had to go by taxi to Heathrow from Southampton - long story but we felt abandoned. We will be compensated by the airline but the stress factor was very high! Hiking is a lot less stressful. thx, Ashley
