This video shows 799 Athens Platoon of the Parachute Regiment passing off the parade square during a visit by Bedworth and Nottingham Branches of the Parachute Regimental Association
If there's not a shiver up your spine as you march off to join your Battalion...then you're dead. Never served in the Para's....Black Hatter here....and I know the feeling of receiving my Regiments cap badge.....a moment in time that will always be with me. Well done to those passing out...
@@oldesarge I see. You were cavalry then I take it? In the British Army, it was considered the only unit to wear a 'black' beret as opposed to 'blue' (it is blue for the majority - even if it does appear black) is the RTR. This may well have been myth or indeed now have changed.
@@apathyintheuk265 Like many other Commonwealth countries the Black Beret was adopted as the headdress for the Regiment back before the Second War. Prior to the Second War the Regiment had as walking out dress Patrol Blues with a Peak Cap. That manner of dress continued through the '50's but with something called Unification/Integration back in the late '60's Patrol Blues and many other items of dress were lost. I understand the history of the RTR and the connection to the Black Beret and the colour of a number of Brit Calvary Regiments berets, that not all Regiments wear the Black Beret. Scot's Dragoon's come to mind with their tan beret. The Strathcona's have a Mounted Troop, Strathcona Mounted Troop that ride wearing the interwar ceremonial dress of scarlet tunics and the brass helmets tieing the Regiments history back to it's Calvary roots. The Mounted Troop actually provided The Queen's Life Guard in September of 2000 and was the first ever non British Regiment to ever do so. Bit of a long winded story there....cheers.
45 years after my pass out parade, the HQ building and the parade shed are still there unchanged. No expense spared in today's army. Also, our marching and movements were all in silence (piss man), no orders given.
I was on that square back in 1976 the RHQ block, training wing as was then and Sgts mess still look the same as does the Drill shed. Brings back some memories.
Don't forget us Junior Para Company Guys back in the day. Malta Bks Aldershot. 1971-1972.and before. alot of guys went on to the Para Regt 1-3 personally i didnt. i did jnr but after all the log runs across long valley.I then went on to be a Sapper for 22 Years. better digging holes with a machine than a shovel lol
Hahahahahahaha look at Sharky!!! That guy scared the shit shit out of me in training him and corporal Hickman lol. Good days man. Congratulations boys that’s the hardest part over!
when i was in we had the balloon jump for our families to see ,, what happened?? i hear rumour that its now a sky car or something , and they don't even do the jumps until after pass-out i could be wrong though
@@noone-dq9wd No, regiments don’t command any other regiments. If they are working together on the same operation THEN higher ranks such as officers can command the other regiment(s) to a certain authority. And either way, Royal Marine Commandos are a branch of the navy while PARAS is in the army.
@@noone-dq9wd Yes, RMC have a similar training course to PARAS but it just the slight bit harder, but that comes with the different skill set they have.
How come they get to rest their rifles? When I Passed Out of Harrogate back in February this year, we had to keep holding our rifles for the whole hour and a half
I think Ground Arms is only used when the parade is really long, and plus some of them are collecting trophies and it would be a bugger to hold a rifle and trophy at the same time so that's probably why
Great to see some berets being worn as traditional, not as flat hats. I do think camera operators should be required to wear something smart. The bloke who goes out to film the inspection really is a scruff bag.
Not one response no problemo, yer all transmutants willingly, say goodnight, oh BTW yer all preying on each other draconian vampires, but sure generic entity doesn't care, right... no problemo, thanks for you're help. Just fyi, this was you only, really
@@cbecks2051 Navy SEALs are just men who love the water lol. Paras can seize airfields or bases, drop in behind enemy lines and do air assault the Pathfinders even do reconnaissance, special operations and mark landing zones before a major operation. They're not just guys who jump out of planes haha they're crazy.
Best Reg in the world...just a shame it's represents a country that's becoming more of a shithole third world country on a daily basis....I served with 1 Para in the 80s and if I knew back then what was going to happen here I would of never served....I did enjoy my time though
P Company is a Massive Achievement for the Fittest Soldiers Only. I was a trained infantryman that couldn't get past P Company; P Company sadly isn't anything about jumping from aircraft & more about being an elite small unit, that in the modern theatre of battle makes them undermanned & take to many losses. All infantry Regiments should have the right to go to Brize Norton. The Maroon Beret has over egged the job in hand making it a small elite band of Rightfully so proud brothers. Sadly P Company is an injury waiting to happen.
These so called Paratrooper's are not fully trained, we the general public are astounded why the RAF cannot run a Para training course for these young men who are almost there. I do hope all parachuting courses for the RAF regiments have been stopped as wasting money on none essential personnel, and any other Hat Brigade for that matter.
These men in space of a few months training are more of a man than you ever were these are paratroopers rather than bad mouthing them show some respect it’s not easy becoming one but I’m sure you wouldn’t know that as you probably never served in any infantry regiment....
They're literally passing out of phase 1 at catterick... They earn their wings in their phase 2, of course they're not fully trained, they've all worked hard to pass phase 1
