The problem is not about the zebra crossing nor the drivers. It is the location of the zebra crossing. Looking at the location and the street type it makes more sense to have an overpass instead of zebra.
If the police themselves are ignorant and breaking the law, how then do you think they can help in this situation. Ghana is a joke, and the same people will go running their mouths, saying the system is not working. They should come and try that nonsense here in Britain. You will be working for them well well. It's a big shame. Sorry.
Good work GTV. There should be more education on our roads to reduce death. There is too much "I don't care" in this country and everybody feels to do what they want without considering the outcomes. See how the moto rider seem not bother even when you advice him. So unfortunate
The footpath is too low to the road itself and not paved over. Why wouldn't motorcycles drive over there illegally. I've always hated this about Accra and possibly most of Ghana, but for some reason, pedestrian walkways and streets tend to be mostly not paved over. At best, the inbetween of the road and walkway is blocked up while the sandy, earthy ground is left like that on the other side. When the streets like and feel no different from the bushy city limits, why wouldn't they drive the way they do?
What is the speed limit on the street? Did you see how difficult it was to stop some few cars. We are quick to blame people and other agencies meanwhile we don't analyze the situation for a better solution.
Put your hand to stop the traffic. What you are doing is just slowing down traffic. Maybe the Police had to station in vantage zebra crossing to observe and punish violators. The Police on motorcycles just gather under shaded trees, on their phones chatting. There is work to be done.
