During the time of the British Empire, they used to export their ales to India, by the time the beer arrived in India the beer had spoiled so the breweries decided to experiment with the recipes to fix this, they found adding more hops improved the beers survivability and taste. The breweries called this beer for export to India, Indian Pale Ale or IPA.
For beer geeks (like I consider myself) yeah it's not craft. But it's a big indie brewery and a good /accessible way towards craft for newcomers who only drink stella and heineken
Great one man. Keep these types of videos coming! A normal dude trying to interpret all of these different options we have walking into a bar in 2023. I like trying different novelty beers every now and again over a Guinness, which I would usually chose.
That bar man is talking shite , punk ipa has not been modified to make it better since 2007 it’s actually been stripped back multiple times to make more more profits .. punk ipa is a shadow of its former self it used to be 6% abv and really cloudy , now it’s crystal clear and tastes like a bad lager in my opinion .. I do quite like lost lager though ..good video though pal 👍
Really interesting video mate. I’ve been into craft beer for about 2 years now and honestly there’s so much choice out there. A lot of bad beer but also a lot of fantastic beer and it’s an interesting thing to do to dive into the different styles of ales and lagers. This could be a great series of videos as there’s quite a few companies trying to be that entry-level craft beer company for people. Awesome video though mate, enjoyed this one
Used to love Punk IPA and Elvis Juice but it went wrong during Rona and never returned to glory. Punk IPA in particular doesn't taste anything like it used to do. Just like my opinion man ..
@@mitzy123 original Elvis Juice was good, current Elvis Juice not so much, they changed so many recipes to go mass market and spoiled what was once good beer just so they can fill the shelves in ASDA and Tesco.
Great content, this is off topic but I was planning a trip to Ireland in January to try some of the different stouts and visit a couple of places like cork etc never did I think I would get Kilkenny or Caffrey’s in Tenerife and Guinness was actually not so bad better than what I’d get back home in Scotland. Would really like to see some content in places like Tenerife for example for the Guinness and maybe different Irish stouts. The Kilkenny and Caffrey’s were really nice.
Your Mans pretty good about knowing his onions. The difference between pilsner and lager generally is the different malt that’s it’s brewed with. Different IPAS are normally defined by the hops from where they originated. IPA is more bitter ( again influenced by early boil hops ) pales are less bitter. Colour and clarity also define different styles. I love punk always have some in the fridge and I brew my fair share of beer. The black heart is delicious in my humble opinion. Great selection of beers , great vid nice work sláinte cheers 👍🍻
I quote from Wikipedia: "Pilsner (also pilsener or simply pils) is a type of pale lager. It takes its name from the Bohemian city of Plzeň (German: Pilsen), where the world's first pale lager (now known as Pilsner Urquell) was produced in 1842 by Pilsner Urquell Brewery." You can still get Pilsner Urquell (it's brewed in the Czech Republic). It's one of my favourite lagers. Although you rarely see it on draught in pubs here in London, it's sold in bottles, in many supermarkets.
for good beer i would recommend polish pils: tyskie, perła (worst: żubr, tatra) german pils: paulaner, erdinger (worst: krombacher & veltins) dutch & belgian pils: hertog jan, jupiler (worst: heineken, bavaria) and my favorite spanish beer and all time: estrella & san miguel
Enjoyable. Id say it near impossible to do an honest review when person is there with you though. I think having all the beers there with just a number takes away some character from the pub. Just my opinion
Darah doing the Lord's work. All the questions you asked I've been too intimidated to ask myself in a bar. Good man 👌🏼 and why can they just call it an APA ?! 😂
I like the high abv brewdog drinks like mr president or arcade made and when they brew it jackhammer. I also like that brewdog publish all there recipes for homebrewers
correct, my local Wetherspoons sells some great beers. i like BD, but how can Wetherspoons sell Punk for £3.50, but BD pubs charge £5+ for a pint of Punk??, DB pubs are a rip off
Brewdog has really gone downhill the past few years. Have tried a few pints of Punk IPA recently and they've all been horrendous. The Lost Lager is ok. Nothing special, but drinkable. Their stout is bang average.
Brewdog is overprocrf trash. If you want real ale you need to ho to Yorkshire where it is an artform. Masham in particular, but many towns and cities have incredible , affordable pubs where standards are high
Brewdog is probably the last place on earth I'd try new craft beer. Brewdog actually used to be a fair decent brewery until the "downsizing". The likes of Lough Gill, Blacks of Kinsale, Original 7 & Whitefield are all excellent Irish breweries. I've had beer from about 30 different microbreweries on this Island and found those to be the cream of the crop so far. I get the hipser, pretensous, snobby feel to craft beer. There's always a lad wearing a tweed jacket with a twisty moustache, reading a book he's actually not into, in his early 20s that will look down on you if you order a Heineken. Despite his beer being total shite. Double hopped ,bees arse, pale Indian man ale. Unfortunately, a lot of Craft beer is shite. More so in BrewDog.
I’ve tried craft beer in the uk, and weirdly even as far as the Philippines (don’t ask) I’ve never liked it, it’s always got a fkin twang/sourness to it, or it’s too heavy, sorry, not for me!
Lost lager came out about 10 years after brewdog become a company, dunno what that guy was on about. First brewdog beers were punk, dead pony club, 5am saint. Very rarely see the last 2 anymore
God...Punk got me into craft nearly a decade ago. Pony was gorgeous. Then out of nowhere Punk has become utter tripe. No longer class them as "craft" anymore. All I see on supermarket shelves is BrewDog
@@callumrowley9810 closest you can get is the 440ml double punk cans but I’ll never get my head round changing a recipe of one of the best beers ever made. Brewdog sold their soul
Brewdog were the number one craft beer about 6-8 years ago... They're by no means the measuring stick anymore as they're a global company who mass produce their products. Kinda expect you to know that as you're a self proclaimed expert. Seriously though, try some beers from Cloud Water, Verdant, Track, Deya, Pollys or Sureshot.
You lost me at Brewdog being the No.1 Craft Beer brewer, even if it is self proclaimed. Go to a proper craft beer brewer - you might not get as many clicks admittedly, but it’ll show you’re serious about learning about it 👍🏼
@@oracleoftruthI guess as a beer drinker, you need to define what ‘No.1 Craft Beer brewer’ actually means. To me it isn’t all about the sales and marketing, but I appreciate on the face of it, that’s what some will look at.
@@Lee-73 not my definition at all but I can see why Brewdog say it. I also think it means they have a responsibility for craft beer as they have so much money and clout. I don't read it as best or most ethical.
When ye approach the 40 mark you can start sampling wines , even as I write this I know I'm gonna turn on RU-vid some day and you'll spring out of a vineyard after stamping on some grapes, it's gonna happen
Approaching the 40 mark here and can't stand wine still . So many craft beers to try around the world and not one of these even comes close. If it was these beers here or wine then I'd semi agree lol
Darragh I was a fan but you listing to to people that think there bar men is a no go don't think that fella talking shite thinks he knows he doesn't go back to the roots he knows knothing about bar work
Good to see you try out those beers! Am quite into the craft scene but despite that I always find Guinness the best stout out there. Others I've tried are great but Guinness has this unique taste. And you can go in a sesh with em
The hangovers are worse for sure. Guinness I can drink however much takes my fancy but pretty much anything else I can enjoy more than Guinness if I pop into a brewdog and try a few pints of the weird and wonderful BUT Guinness never gives me a hangover and this stuff honestly always does.
😊 hands up I'm a brew dog fan and an investor, but I really enjoyed your down-to-earth honest assessment and your conversation with the brew dog bartender.
I struggle with Ales, not always because of the taste, people tend to say Guinness fills them up, but for me I can drink Guinness till the cows come home, whereas after 3-4 pints of Ale for me there's no more room at the Inn, suppose it's what you get used to drinking
The term craft beer is used to charge high prices for most beers that are not that good. There were some great beers years ago that were lost when the big breweries came to town and also lowered the ABV content on some classic ales.
My big gripe with Brewdog is the overstocking of it in supermarkets. My small "local" store has two shelves and a large portion of the refrigerated beer dedicated to BD, including the non-alcoholic stuff. There are maybe two other "craft" offerings, which is pitiful BUT the worst thing of all is that they don't stock Guinness! Seriously, we have 8 types of Brewdog but no room for some of the black stuff?
@@lenedwards3532 are wankers using “weapon” now as a derogatory term? I loved the GG videos but now the channel name sounds like someone clearing their throat and puts me off. Isn’t there some association soccer you could be watching?
