This Cavalier GSi 4x4 was bought by Once Driven's Dougie Rankine way back in 2006. An original car with the rare option of air conditioning, it underwent major surgery in 2007, being fitted with the 3.0 V6 engine from an Omega cop car.
It was then rebuilt with Calibra Turbo gearbox and drive train in 2010, almost went up in flames in 2013 and was saved from the brink of the scrapheap.
The engine was treated to many tuning parts in 2017 and was last on the road properly in 2018. The car will be back and better than ever for 2022.
As far as we know it's a one off. We know of one other Cavalier V6 4x4, a Turbo converted using a Saab engine, but don't know if it still exists.
The 3.0 V6 GSi has been built "OEM+" as if Vauxhall would have produced the model.

I think this channel is great! even though I'm not a vauxhall guy anymore, me and my mates all had late 80s and 90s vauxhall astra/novas and Cavs/calibras and they were so much quicker than what ford had to offer. build quality was good too especially in my opinion the MK3 and 4 Astra's.

You've put your soul into that car. Really enjoyed the upload. That part where you were filming the great John Cleland in his 90s touring car champion Cav took me back. I still have a video of him winning it with Murray Walker commentating. Must have been fab filming it in action from your own beastie.

Hi Dougie, just watched your video on the GSi and I really enjoyed it. I am a massive fan of the Cavalier having over 25 various different models over the years but iv never owned a GSi! For me the Cavalier is by far one of the best models Vauxhall ever made. I never had a V6 model but I have had a few Vectra and Omega V6's of various different models and again I never had a bad one. Anyway I look forward to seeing a lot more content in the future of your GSi and a lot more from your channel in general. Take it easy Dougie lad, until the next time...🙂👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I always liked the MK3 Cavalier.and the GSi looked the part in the darker colours with its subtle sports body styling. I was never a huge fan of the brand but growing up in Yorkshire in the 80s and 90s Vauxhall's and Fords were everywhere. I'm very nostalgic for cars of this era now. Keep up the good work. It's been good to see you rescue a few cars which otherwise may have been destined for scrap.

Enjoyed this. I’m a bit of a sucker for an old Vauxhall and you’ve inspired me to take my V6 Calibra out for a jaunt. I’ve got some “G” cams from the Y32SE Vectra C GSi engine to go in next year when the timing belt is due to be changed. As far as metal cam covers go, they don’t so much seal better as don’t warp like the plastic ones do. When I got my V6, they were like bloody Pringles on the sealing edge. A swift swap to metal cam covers later and that oil leak stopped. If I may be so bold as to offer some video feedback, be wary of volume balance. The conversation pieces and driving pieces had a distinct volume difference and I nearly woke the dead through my TV. Overall though, top work. Really enjoy content on this channel!

Brilliant, I really enjoyed that, thanks for sharing this car! I like how it's a custom build to your own requirements, it's evolved over the years but you've stuck to Vauxhall parts from other models of the same era. I agree it looks a nice place to be on a wintry day. Makes me want to get out and drive around the back roads like I used to, life always gets in the way though so this is the next best thing 😁 Anyone notice how you don't see cars anymore with left and right wipers that are designed to operate slightly out of sync? Metros, Fiestas and Transits were also like this.

Hi Dougie I was always a Vauxhall man and back in the day I worked for Vauxhall and I ran a highly modified Diamond black Calibra, a bit like your Gsi it started off as a 2.0 16v cos cast red top. But it ended up as a 2.5 C25xe running 3.0 k cams knife edged 3.0l inlets, early 20xe flat type flywheel and hybrid clutch and pressure plate, because I was rolling O.Z racing super-t’s but on 4 stud I re-engineering the bigger discs and callipers from the V6 doner car into 4 stud, Remus full exhaust spax springs and Bilatien shocks. The interior started off as the velour interior with the full velour door cards then it was black leather and then it was cream and then it was customed velour and cream leather, I had footwell lights, and again like your cavalier I had cruise control, when It was a 2.0 litre I ran a modified Astra gate/calibra Dash and then put the V6 dash and aux gauges in, and then Finally fitted a Rieger body kit with an SE8 spoiler all painted fitted by me. So I appreciate the work you have put in to your GSi, but did you know that the Saab V6 version of the c25xe also had a turbocharged version and reversed inlet? I was considering at the time doing a twin turbo conversion on the V6. Also the alternator cooling fan is the same unit that the Omega used to cool the ecu in the battery tray so if you need to source one look for one of them, and that will prevent the alternator overheating, and all that hassle removing it through the offside. But have you thought about getting diesel cavalier lowered spec front springs as the Diesel engine is heavier than the V6 ?

That is a nice Cavalier, I had the 2.5 V6 same colour as that, fitted a stainless intake pipe & ram air filter off a Corrado V6, fitted a modified plenum & a Peco Twin Dtm Up Swept Backbox to free it up a bit. Got a set of Zender 17" alloys, new pirelli tires & a fresh set of brake pads, It was quick especially mid to top but being front wheel drive it had loads of torque steer - you had to hold the wheel tight when you floored it or it would want to veer in the direction of the camber of the road. Nice motors the old Vauxhall's my first decent car was an old mk1 Astra GTE that was good fun too.

Hi dougie, It looks like you have what would have been a vauxhall internal fleet demo car, the fleet at the time of this cars registration was run by white arrow fleet who pdi'd the cars new and delivered them to any vauxhall dealer who needed to demo the cars to a customer (during this period a lot of the vauxhall network rarely held any new or demo stock with a sports badge). Back then we could request anything off vauxhall fleet and have it delivered within a few days as a short term loaner. The tell tale sign on your car is the reg number, AWP plated cars were registered through worcestershire where white arrow were based, the fleet still runs to this day but on a much smaller scale as most vauxhall dealers will stock everything in the current range, the fleet now mainly loans out electric vivaro's and corsas to companys interested in an extended demo. I worked for vauxhall during the 90's and sold most of the range new and used, if you ever want any info regards specific models and weird spec's just let me know as i will probably remember.
