To be there, in Massey Hall, celebrating Gordon's music with so many like-minded fans and all these musicians was beyond magical!! Gordon has been on my life's soundtrack for as long as I remember... so many beautiful memories have been created while Gord's music was playing in the background! This concert was incredible and I will cherish forever receiving my ticket from my sister for Christmas and getting to travel from BC with her to share this amazing experience!

God bless Gordon Lightfoot. God bless the performer/friends who performed his great music. And God Bless the CBC for doing what no one else does: showing us to ourselves. I'm bessed to have been born here to appreciate all our amazing homegrown talent. 🇨🇦 Happy Canada Day!
Geddy & Alex didn't disappoint.... i could have done without the friggin ad break in the middle of their performance tho 🙄🙄🙄 happy canada day all 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
“I think that any Canadian that looked at music as something serious to enlighten, enlarge their lives, admired Gordon… “ Beautifully said Geddy! 👍 PS. Happy Canada Day! ❤🇨🇦
Watching Geddy and Alex perform together in any context = pure JOY! (Loved Geddy's voice here...sounded like him and yet unlike him. Lovely!) Happy Canada Day everyone!
What a blessing to have this video pop up on RU-vid this Canada 🇨🇦 Day Monday afternoon 2024. Gordon would have loved this tribute to him at what Massey Hall is often called, "the house that Gordon Lightfoot built!" I must say it was a deeply moving performance in his honour ! I've been a huge fan since I was 7 years old when my sister brought home his 1st album and they spoke to my heart and soul! Teared up watching this tonight! Thank you, CBC, for this July 1st musical treat! 🕊❤️🇨🇦🎶💫💃🏻🍁
I hope the CBC puts the entire concert out on DVD, available to be purchased from outside of Canada. It would sell out. I own a region free DVD player (very affordable) so my DVD collection comes from many countries worldwide. Owning the entire concert would mean the world to me. Gordon lives on in all of us, never to be forgotten. I will admit to several teary-eyed moments - my cat noticed & curled up on me to comfort me. Happy Canada Day 🇨🇦
9/20/24 ~ First time to hear this tribute to Gordon Lightfoot. I've admired all his music since the early 70's. Here in USA I missed out on his earliest music days. But, I saw him in concert one time in Spokane way back in the 70s. That's when he became more than just a "pretty voice with a pretty face"! USA didn't appreciate Gordon as much as the Nation should have. But John Denver was in the lead still ! Now, at 82, I'm still a biggest fan of this fantastic person, artist, poet. Canada, I've admired your musicians, your Nation. Don't do what we've done.
The last song gave me goosebumps. So many greats honouring such a great. Gord attended high school with my two eldest siblings. The way Orillia continually honours Gordon Lightfoot makes me proud of my hometown.
As an "honourary" Canadian, thank you for this concert. I hope that it will eventually be released on DVD in its entirety. Happy Canada Day from the USA!
I would just like to say that Aysanabee’s vocal performance of Looking at the Rain was chilling. Gordon Lightfoot would be smiling down from heaven hearing his tribute. God bless you Gordon….your genius and words will remain long after we are gone.
Beautiful, I wish that I believed in an afterlife, but I don't. So I don't think that Gordon was looking down on this. I do believe in the human power of positivity. This is as positive as it gets. It also shows that no matter how accomplished these artists are, none of them can get near the the sublime level of joy that Gordon's own versions could generate
Beatiful beatiful beatiful !!! I took a cassette of Gordon from USA to Argentina in 1983 and imagine the surprise!! no one knew obout him. But over the years I proved right !!! he is great, and he lives in the hearts of all of us that anderstood his music back then. He'll remain for years to come
Amazing to have this show on RU-vid, but the sound level is so quiet relative to the jarringly loud ads that randomly come on - makes it so hard to properly enjoy.
Thanks, Canadian Broadcasting Company and First Nation I loved falling to sleep with Gordon Lightfoot in my tender teens in the 70's, and still do today.
What a surprise! I was binging on Gordon Lightfoot and just happened to find this on RU-vid. And it was just released yesterday. These musicians did a fantastic job and I'm sure Mr. Lightfoot would be deeply honored. Thanks to everyone who made this possible. Gordon Lightfoot is my all-time favorite singer, songwriter, poet and musician. May his soul rest in peace. 🙏🙏🙏 PS. Happy Canada Day to my neighbors to the North!💕💕💕
I was fortunate to have stumbled onto Gordon in the late '60's because of the college radio station where I was attending school... Sundown was my introduction to his music...I was able to see him twice in small venues in the mid-70's while in grad school in Minnesota...a great talent and someone that you would like to share a meal with...

Thanks CBC. Good to see all the old guys that are still around. Gordon had a daughter! Got to see a bit of second generation . They all seemed to practice hard to do his musical legacy justice 👍💟 . Amazed with Blue Rodeo's band member on dobro and later mandoline! 💓 His stetson and embroidered Canadiana suit 👍🩷🎶
The concert was magical. Unfortunately RU-vid here in the States inserted commercials in the MIDDLE of the songs. I am fine with the free version of RU-vid having commercials but would it be so difficult to put the commercials BETWEEN the songs?
Burton --- my fav Lightfoot song - cant believe that You performed it ---- Hurrah !!!! ps obvious but the Kings of Cda music - You, Lightfoot & Bachman !! cheers !!!
Is it really RU-vid? Is that how it generates income, or does the CBC have control of the presentation and profit by including the ads? Given CBC’s present propensity for advertising on TV and online with GEM, I perhaps mistakenly assumed it was them. Whoever was responsible, I totally agree with you. The constant interruptions were irritating and poorly done.
Gordon Lightfoot WAS Canada. His passing in 2023 almost seems fitting because our country has lost so much of what it was that made it so good in the past, it's a shadow of the country it used to be, and without Gord in it now it will forever be different. So glad i grew up in the years when Gord was woven into our fabric.
Gordon died in 2023. The concert on May 23 was 19 songs. OH So Sweet/Meredith Moon was cut at her request. This CBC video has 18 of 19 songs. They were out of order in this video.
@@hltvieira6354 You're good this is the full show, i was mistaken, it's only missing one song by Meredith Moon and one by Burton Cummings doing his 'Gordon Lightfoot as done by Rod Stewart' skit that he did on SCTV back in the 80's
An eclectic assortment of Canadian artists with a wide spectrum of Lightfoot songs, each with the fingerprint of its performer, in Gord's living room on Canada Day. Alrighty then...
❤CBC, PLEEEASE tell me you'll be releasing this concert to purchase! 🙏🏻For decades and decades, whenever I listen to his songs I marvel at how anything can be so beautiful.❤ Listening to this took me back to wonderful times, and I cried and I cried and I cried. 💔🎶♥️☮️
I first heard Gord's musical as a preschooler on my parents' LPs from the late 1960s. What a treat to hear his songs played in tribute by generations of Canadian musicians & musical legends like Blue Rodeo, Sylvia Tyson, Burton Cummings, Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee & more! Thank you for this magical concert
@@bonniyerex7012 Yep--there's a you tube video of a bunch of east coast musicians doing the same sort of tribute to Gordy--JP did Trilogy and it was epic---he put everything into it--he looked exhausted at the end--sounded like the whole Lightfoot band was backing him--he owned that song
@@neilhudson6194 I found it, thanks and listened to all three parts. I loved 'the Pony Man' but the highlight was JP doing justice to that iconic Trilogy. Thanks again.
A beautiful tribute to Gordon Lightfoot. It's sad and too bad that the organizers declined to include the iconic Canadian songwriter and musician Ron Sexsmith, who Gordon Lightfoot so admired.
The level of the show is way too low. I've got my volume full blast just to listen normally. That's why the commercials are deafening when they come on.
Spread the meme ... Sankofa Square to be renamed by the people to "Gordo Square". In honor of our great Canadian artists .. Gordon Lightfoot and Gord Downie.
