"CBS News Nightwatch" was broadcast during the overnights between 1982 and 1992. Originally, the four-hour broadcast emanated from the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City and was presented by a team of CBS News correspondents. The production was formatted to allow local affiliates to insert five-minute news updates each hour. Later, a pared-down, two-hour version of "Nightwatch" originated from the Network's facilities in Washington, D.C. Charlie Rose was host between 1984 and 1990.
This close was recorded off the air in 1987. Following it is a CBS News Special Report open from the same year. The similar music heard in each clip seems to come from the same source, which is identified by CBS in the credits as Signature Sound.
