Grew up as a Christian/Catholic and started identifying myself as agnostic because I didn’t feel comfortable labeling myself as Christian/Catholic since I disagreed with a number of things. I believe the Baha’i Faith is what I feel comfortable with so happy I found this faith.

Dave Aru I’m not discarding all of Christianity as a religion. I simply don’t agree with parts of the teachings, especially with Catholicism. You’re taught to not ask any questions about what you’re told and to blindly believe some biblical events that seem way too far fetched to be true. Example, the blood and body of Christ that’s taken as communion. It is just wine and crackers but if you ask a Catholic, IT IS the body and blood of Christ, not wine and crackers. It’s been transformed with prayer.
Dave Aru Haven’t read about the Tower of Babel in a long time but if I can remember, God destroys it to stop people from “reaching the heavens” because they’re striving to live in a godly manner when they were suppose to be living humble lives. Baha'u'llah predicted the eventual electromagnetic radiant communication of the Internet in the 1860's. Since then humanity has experienced the steady progress of the knowledge of electromagnetism. Shoghi Effendi literally predicted the coming of the Internet in his 1938 book "The Advent of Divine Justice". It was then a Baha'i, Bill Fernandez, who was mystically guided to introduce Steve Jobs to Steve Wozniak in a walk around his neighborhood in Cupertino, CA in 1969. The rest is history as this all eventually got started with the Intel 8080 CPU instruction set in 1974 and MOS Technology 6502 CPU instruction set that came out in 1975. Steve Wozniak famously followed it because of his patent to also control video with the 6502 reducing the chip count. The rest is history. I am in no doubt that the teachings of the Baha'i Faith are destined to bring humanity through our current struggles into a more peaceful and sane future. Bahaullah's written words include teachings and guidance for personal and social questions.
My fiancé and I recently spent a week in New Delhi. We went to the Lotus Temple the last evening we were there, but they had just closed the gate (despite the fact that the website said they would be open for another 2 hours.) We were so disappointed. Later, our Indian friends told us not to ever trust Indian websites because Indians open and close whenever they feel like it. Haha I really hope we can make the trip back there some day.
I feel like this is a belief structure for the "non-believer". That doesn't necessarily mean it's "bad" but I can't help but have an itch about the idea that this is a religion designed to exploit people's indifference. While no monetary gain is shown it was definitely known by 1800 that a "prophet" could be treated very well by their followers. However, I do like the core belief that all religions are tied to a single god (or pantheon for that matter). As a agnostic who studies astrophysical actualities, both inside and outside a formal setting, I find this belief structure absolutely fantastic because no particular religion can be physically proven. I've found that the vastness of the universe both solidifies and weakens the idea of a god. The weakness is found by asking the simple question of "Why?" Why do all things (planets, stars, molecular clouds) exist within the galaxy? By the accounts of holy texts like the Bible, Qur'aan, Vedas, or Torah, the conclusion can be drawn that only the events upon the Earth are "important" or relevant. The only conclusion I can draw is "divine knowledge" is being kept from us at the moment and we aren't the only group of creatures worshiping a possible "God". Because the question of "why?" is so unanswerable It's reasonable that the random chance attributed to the Big Bang Theory and Darwinism may in fact hold some truth. In conclusion, the Baha'i are interesting individuals and the origin of the faith are even more interesting.

Just remember, if you are gay or trans, they will not accept you. Just know that. I grew up in this religion, learned that everyone is equal, love, acceptance, than I found out that I’m gay in the beginning of my puberty. I was given a choice to marry a woman or to live alone for the rest I’m my life when I got older and told people what I was feeling, thinking it would be a safe place, I was wrong!. So I’m no longer Baha’i, married with my husband and living a wonderful life. I just want people to know that just because religions say they are all about love and so on, it almost always comes with a cost or with a but.....but if you are.......

Perhaps the difference is that for Bahá’ís, their teachings only apply to people who choose to be Bahá’í and are not imposed on those who choose not to be Bahá’í. That people of the same sex will, for a number of reasons, feel love for one another, and which can be natural, is understandable; but for Bahá’ís, to let that love find expression in sexual acts is a moral issue, as are many other moral issues which Bahá’ís are counseled on - like the use of alcohol or recreational drugs, backbiting, truthfulness, infidelity, and so on. But most importantly, for those who are Bahá’í, "to regard a person who has a homosexual orientation with prejudice or disdain is entirely against the spirit of the Faith. And where occasion demands, it would be appropriate to speak out or act against unjust or oppressive measures directed towards homosexuals." And finally, as mentioned before, "just as Bahá’ís do not impose their views on others, they cannot relinquish their principles because of changing trends in popular thought."
Onenessofhumanity being gay is not a trend. Is is a fact of life that have always existed from the beginning of human kind, even before religion, and have been accepted in cultures like Ancient Greece and other cultures. Today people who are educated and open minded know that homosexuality is as normal as heterosexuality, it’s just part of human sexuality. Homosexuality is also found in many animal species, so it’s not against nature for those who say it is. Animals and plants also change sex and some have none, just like people. Baha’u’llah gave us the Laws in the Kitab-i-Aqdas (Book of Laws, Most Holy Book) as loving guidance, not as punishment, to help humanity bring balance or equilibrium back into civilization. The more these laws are practiced; the more stability our civilization will have. Humility and obedience are necessary virtues to practice.

The efforts to maintain "rightness" overwhelms the pursuit of genuine "righteousness" -- crossing into the zone of "self-righteousness" that is intolerant of those with differing beliefs. Unfortunately, this has often sparked violent conflicts, hunts for "heretics", and armed clashes. The difference is that humankind has matured over the centuries and history has shown us the futility and injustice of intolerant attitudes. We are now "old enough to use our words instead of our fists." The are many groups of people in every religion who are peace-loving, service-oriented, and kind-hearted; they recognize the need to reflect the forgiving qualities of the Divine Creator (whether identified by Name as an entity or simply recognized as a Force for Goodness). The Baha'i Writings clarify divine principles and resolve many (if not all) of the differences in religious beliefs and practices; the Writings also clarify the role of science, the arts, trades, and governance--issue that may particularly interest atheists and agnostics. The pivotal principle is recognizing the Oneness of Humankind--we are but one species, inherently noble and imbued with dignity.
The greatest problem with any religion, that being monotheistic or otherwise is the lack of Faith. The basic fundamental aspect that you should not harm another is another part of it. Faith has been under attack by those who practice religion over belief for centuries. The practice is no different. Strip this and all other religious practice away and start with the basics.....actual faith. It should not matter how one practice if you truly believe in a Supreme being, Jah, Allah, God, The Creator...etc.

In the "Bayan" the Báb says that every religion of the past was fit to become universal. The only reason why they failed to attain that mark was the incompetence of their followers. He then proceeds to give a definite promise that this would not be the fate of the revelation of "Him Whom God would make manifest" [Baha'u'llah], that it will become universal and include all the people of the world. God is not the author of evil. Media, Police, Defense, Judiciary, Penitentiary, Security, Contracts confirm sin exists. The origins of life, natural laws, sin, morals, purpose, meaning, conscience, music, creativity, intelligence, beauty, color, nature, water, air, light and amalgamation, remain unevidenced - elsewhere. We love truth when it enlightens us, but hate when it convicts us. Instructing to "Heart wash" from sin is not "Brainwash". God created universe, placed natural laws, made humans in His image, gave talents, instructed to multiply and explore - The Initiation of Science. Science is the legitimate child of natural laws. Without natural laws science has no foundation. We are created with good purpose and meaning. We are good. Then sin entered through satan and we all fallen. Disease, despair, deformities, deficiencies, depression, stress, guilt, greed, hate, anger, rebellious spirit, spiritual death entered. Sin plays spoilsport. Salvation from sin and hell is free, but not cheap. Because Jesus Christ laid His life on The Cross, and resurrected. God loves the sinner, but hates the sin. The Lamb and The Lion. Jesus Christ forgave all who crucified Him, and now forgives all, even who reject, ridicule and mock Him. He loves all unconditionally. Believe, trust, repent of pre-existing sin in Jesus Christ that He died for remission of our sins and resurrected, and coming back to judge, accept Him as Lord and Saviour, and be saved from sin and hell. Any time, any where. Even now. Simple. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. I found God loved me regardless of sins, weaknesses and rejections by others. As sinner I cannot save myself through deeds. He believed me and has faith in me. I am not in competition with others. God loves you all, individually. (My journal. Jesus did not use the word "sin" anywhere near as often as does a modern Christian. Clearly He was not as obsessed over it as they are. Consider Luke 7:47: "Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little." Obviously Jesus is saying that the way out of sin is to love, yet modern Christians believe the solution is judging others and condemning them. This is not the teaching of Jesus, it is the result of a vindictive and self-righteous church hierarchy founded on the paranoid and delusional attitudes of men like Augustine. Their objective was not leading men into heaven (cf. Matthew 23:13), but purging them of anything they considered bad or impure. The very concept of original sin does not derive from the teachings of Jesus, but from the ignorant interpretation of these same church fathers. Hence, Christianity, in the 4th Century, became Churchianity.
That's explained in baha'i teachings. The end times have passed with the revelation of the bab signifying the end of the adamic cycle of prophethood. Baha u llah means "Glory of God" as christ stated "I shall return in the glory of the father". The cycle was a time that has come to pass, hence "the end of times" and a new cycle has begun. The kingdom of God is his book of laws and once in practice by the majority of mankind the swords will be turned to plow shares and everlasting peace will reign forever as will the bloodline of David through Baha u llah as promised by God in his covenant with david. "He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever." Verse 16 says, "And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure for ever before me; your throne shall be established for ever."
Any religion that accepts Jesus's Messiahship is a false religion. Acts chapter 5 33-39 says if the Jesus movement came to nothing it was not from the Lord. They disappeared from history in 333ce as the book Nazarene Jewish Christianity confirms. This makes Jesus a false spiritual leader like the others Rabban Gamaliel mentioned in that passage of Acts.

Is this a tenant of Baha'i belief? It was stated in a Baha'i pamphlet published by the The Universal House of Justice, headquartered at Haifa, Israel, so I suppose it is doctrine? Can you find out more about this for me as it seems contrary to your stated belief system - or is there more here than meets the eye?

Artemis A Yes, some aspects of Persian culture and poetry were incorporated into the Bahá’í Faith. Even some of the original writings are in Farsi. So amazing!
Baha'u'llah proclaimed Naw Ruz to be a Baha'i Holy Day. It has also been Persian New Year for thousands of years. In Australia there is a big rock in the centre called Ayers Rock but the aboriginal people call it Uluru. Most people in Australia now call it Uluru out of respect I guess. Really though I think it can be called by either name.
"Seems like..." In other words, based on a ten minute video created by a news agency. When Baha'u'llah identified the independent investigation of truth as the first principle of His faith, I think He intended something a little more in-depth. If I watch a 15 minute video on quantum mechanics and then say it sounds like scientists are trying to perpetuate their careers by making up more complicated nonsense, would anyone consider that conclusion credible?
Baha'i doesn't teach that Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. For that reason, it is a new age type of religion. They may speak of God and Jesus, but they deny the most fundamental aspects of Christianity, including the Resurrection!
Baha'is do not deny those aspects of Christianity. While we do have a less literal interpretation of the nature and significance of those events, we see that the essence of Christianity lies in the teachings of His Holiness Christ, which is the "bread and fishes" with which He has fed the multitudes (humanity). Consider this: had Jesus been born of a virgin, died through crucifixion, and been bodily resurrected, but had taught completely senseless or even sinister concepts, would His revelation have changed the world? He gave spiritual rebirth to a whole generation who were not even aware of those occurrences. Similarly, it is not through amazing events in the life of Baha'u'llah that the world is now being brought to an enduring spiritual unification, but through His teachings. That is the core of religion.
Some less known facts: 1) Top leadership is all male. No women allowed in the UHJ. 2) baha'i faith began as a sect of Islam. 3) Baha'is goal is to become the government of all countries. 4) Alcohol forbidden, Marriage to your cousin perfectly fine. 5) Founder was a muslim with 3 wives.
How could their so called god send various messengers ? When Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. - so how is this video even accurate? unless their so called god is confused or something? @@OnenessofHumanity Yes that is a perfect verse, Jesus speaks of the Holy Spirit He will send when He goes back to the father, and those who believes in the work of Jesus on the cross for Salvation of humanity, will have the Holy Spirit that leads them to all truth. So when we read the Bible only the Holy Spirit can reveal the truth to us, if we do not have the Holy Spirit we cannot understand the truth. If abdulbaha is the massenger of God why the same God of muslims says that the prophet muhammad is the last one. If muslims are right you aren't. If you are right God has changed his mind. explain this!!
Best comment of the thread and you hit the final nail in the head of this faith which is based on a falsehood about their new prophet. The last prophet for us Muslims is Prophet Mohammad Sallalahu alaihe wassalam and he was the seal of the prophet so nobody could claim it after him and if they do they would be treated as false prophets running deviant cults of their own. It is like if somebody says he believes in Jesus to be the prophet peace be upon him and yet he claims to be a Christian.

Firstly, it is Bahá'u'lláh Who claims to be the promised Messenger of God for this age, ‘Abdu’l‑Bahá being His eldest Son - His Successor and the Interpreter of His Teachings, an understandable misunderstanding. Baha’is fully accept that Muhammed is the last prophet and the Seal of the Prophets, that is, the end of the Prophetic cycle before the Day of God. Bahá'u'lláh Himself calls Muhammad the Seal of the Prophets: "Glorified art Thou, O Lord my God! I beseech Thee by Thy Chosen Ones, and by the Bearers of Thy Trust, and by Him Whom Thou hast ordained to be the Seal of Thy Prophets and of Thy Messengers, to let Thy remembrance be my companion, and Thy love my aim, and Thy face my goal, and Thy name my lamp, and Thy wish my desire, and Thy pleasure my delight." (Prayers and Meditations by Bahá'u'lláh, XXV). If there is any contridiction it is mearly in our understanding of the Holy Books from God, just as Jews were veiled from Christ, and many Christians from Muhammad. Again Bahá’u’lláh declares "It is evident that every age in which a Manifestation of God hath lived is divinely ordained, and may, in a sense, be characterized as God's appointed Day. This Day, however, is unique, and is to be distinguished from those that have preceded it. The designation "Seal of the Prophets" fully revealeth its high station. The Prophetic Cycle hath, verily, ended. The Eternal Truth is now come. Denying that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins is an abomination in the eyes of God. So sad to see so many fall to false religion. Hope there are some that see this....Turn to the Bible....read it for yourself...religion itself is not what God wanted. So many have been deceived.

@@OnenessofHumanity What does this have to do with denying that Jesus died on the cross for our sins? Without that then we die in our sins.....no matter what is done in life. You need to know and understand the teachings of Jesus to understand this point. We are saved by Grace through faith but not of our own works. We can not save ourselves. It only took 1 single sin for Adam and Eve to fall for all of humanity. God sent his son to allow us to be saved though Jesus's perfect life. Died for us so that we may ask for forgiveness and to allow Jesus in our heart! Once he is there you then are able to have a relationship with him and you will feel the Holy Spirit in your life....that is the true feeling of knowing God. Denying this is denying the Father in heaven! Its all in the Bible! don't take my word for it. Once you read it you will understand. The Bible contains the Word of God. Something so many have not even read.
