CBS News | CBS This Morning | February 2013 Gregg Allman is still....Gregg Allman. CBS News' CBS This Morning. Produced by Lauren Vance. Edited by Andrew Schutzman.
He really seemed like just a humble, sweet guy..I wish they would have let him talk more. He's a thinker. It takes a deep thinker to write songs. So when they were peppering him with questions and talking over him, he was still thinking about how to answer the question. Damn, let him answer the question!
I was absolutely appalled by the questions by Gail King to this eternal legend...Saddened by his passing but he will always be to Coolest Of All Time...ETERNAL REST ICON...
Just caught this while listening to some Allman cuts. Wow. That had to be excruciating for Gregg Allman. He's a very gracious man, all things considered.
But he’s a southern gentleman and smart as a whip he’s been treated worse and took it in stride all these things thrown at him by lesser people he always rises above he’s a class act But interviewers need to understand who they are talking with how they converse so they can get the best possible interview these guys didn’t do their homework but Greg rose to the occasion and made them not look bad
lol. All of us think the same way. Gregg Allman, Son of Macon and The South. We love ya brother, Many thanks for shaping our lives. These two babbling at you here are a waste of your and our time!
Jeanette Vincent Obviously she HAD NOT read his book... "in one sitting last night." I think even she realized the sound of that lie as it came out of her mouth, she choked.
Does she not even realize the gall she has with a question and statement like I am worried about you. I want to make sure you are okay. Does your mother approve? what an ass hole series of statements and questions... you could see how Gregg was doing his best not to show that it bothered him. That was so uncomfortable to watch. Where did she learn her interviewing skills? Oh my God!
To miss an opportunity like that with a great artist like Greg is just typical. Most of us fans could've done a better interview cause we would have focused on the music and the artistry. I will miss the band so much. Anyone lucky enough to have seen the original group is blessed. lve seen the band 4 times. RIP Greg.
pattio smith Same day I lost my mom six years earlier. She broke my first Allman Brothers album because inside was a picture of a naked Duane with leaves covering his privates. Almost felt full circle.
First time I’ve seen this interview. Musical hero! Even Charlie was embarrassed by that airhead, Gail, who didn’t deserve to be in the same room with this icon.
@@julies649 I totally agree. Gail to me is a pushy piece of work. She keeps saying she is worried about him. Bullshit! I think he was offended by her and just didn't want to answer her pushy questions. She probably hasn't even listened to the Allman Brothers. You are truly missed Gregg and may you live on with your music. Thank you. R.I.P.✌❤🌻
The more I'm around my friends that have a southern drawl the more my southern accents steps out of the Midwest Kind! It was charming to see the slowdown of morning television even tho it was brief. Southern Hospitality!
What a gentle and sweet man Gregg Allman was. I remember seeing photos of him in the 1970's and he seemed like a party animal. The long hair and all. R.I.P. He will be missed.
With everything this man has done and been through... if you had one question to ask Greg Allman.. it wouldn’t be about musical influences or do you quietly “talk” to Your brother... how did you deal with a liver transplant.... NO....” does your mother approve of you getting married again?”HUH???? Incredible... and I’m gonna go out on a limb... and just guess... Gayle didn’t make it to the Beacon Theatre... to see the Allman Brothers....😛 Not a Greg Allman concert... as she referred to it....stay in your lane... Gayle...🙄🥺🙄!!!
I'm sure after she privately saw the replay of her silly interview during editing she thought better. As in oh shit i came across as a total cunt i best just sit this one out.....
that may be the most disrespectful exchange I have ever seen. does she think this man deserves her BS "gotcha" journalism? what the fook has she EVER done besides munch Oprah's turf? what a disgrace
What a ignorant AH that woman was. First its none of ur business if he gets married 24 times. She had issue with that so dhe tried to call him on it. Greg handled it well. Me I would not been as gracious as he.
One of the rudest interviews I have ever seen. Gregg remains calm and seemingly undisturbed by her crass comments and questions. Obviously he has his scandals but what is the purpose of bringing up what had already been aired a thousand or more times? And he just graciously took it on the chin. Makes me admire him even more. Mr. Rose did have the decency to appear uncomfortable with Ms. King's inappropriate questions and misplaced comments. She is a buffoon.
gk is an idiot and is as phony as her head of hair. I’ve loved the Allman Brothers for over 50 years. They live forever in my memories and in my heart. RIP Duane, Gregg, and Berry. 😢😢😢
Forget that noxious interview lady (wasted words, already been heard.. . . .) Many of my best memory's were at the Beacon theatre, when I was in NY and staying at same hotel. Such fun. And as a kid, in our family van traveling & listening to Brothers & sisters on the 8 track. Simply the best.
I had the honor of meeting Greg Allman at a concert in Vancouver , Washington in the early eighties. thanks again for the years of good southern rock ,I will miss you and your brothers.
Wow! What a Shame.... I saw him with Lonnie Mack and Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble on April 27, 1985 at Oklahoma City Zoo Amphitheater. It was a GREAT show. RIP Gregg Allman
beatlesfantoo ...holy shit! WHAT a lineup!! Sadly never got t see SRV, but got parked in front of Gregg's Hammond B3 at least once...it was to DIE for..:)!
Boy, that was tough to watch. I couldn't help to think that if I was talking to Gregg Allman I would have asked questions about happiness not dispare. I sure as hell wouldn't ask about drug addiction and rehab. That is personal and there was no reason to go down that path. The ex wives line of questioning was totally inappropriate. I saw the Allman Brothers Band in 97. Although not the original line up they still jammed. I felt in awe watching Gregg play that Hammond B3. I also got to see him solo a year or two later. THAT was special. What a performer. I hope future generations will get to know the ABB and play their music for all to enjoy.
I found these fellas mid point in life st mid 30's I said to myself were the heck have I been this music had been flowing in my entire life hearing Duane slide guitar Amazing Grace, Gregg singing Not My Cross to Bear One way Out Whipping Post, all of it Blue Sky's, it's in my heart been there all along. I grew up in Colorado lively spirit filled musical church in down town Denver with a neon Jesus Saves on the roof. A mixed race church that every person who wanted to do something for God had the opportunity to present that. I played rhythm guitar in the blue grass band at 12 years old and had started learning around 9 or 10 so I has strumming and chords down pretty well. That foundation to me I lost until I found the brothers The Almann Brothers, I picked up guitar again started putting my soul into playing again this bunch gave me back my heart real heart by 40 I was a different man, to that point I had chased my career I was in NJ across from Manhatten making a good living had my own business making more then I ever thought possible. But grew the way God wanted and now call it My Masters Program taken 20 plus years and have to say, the music they brought did it for me. I've listen to lots of music in my life, this heart and soul compilation of Jazz Blues Country and Rocken Roll is American music with real heart one of my favorite videos is them playen One Way Out in Germany blew my mind, another is Gregg in the back of the Capital Theater in Passaic NJ. Yea admit high as hell. Playen in acoustic guitar Cone and Go Blues I don't know for sure who it was written about. This song his bleeding soul in pain in my opinion is one of his very best representation of the skill and true talent this man is. Taking the pain life handed him and turned out one of the best Blues performances ever. For me RIP for all them fellas cus none of the original group at the Fillmore East are with us. Thankfully their kids are at it and the core carries on through new eyes.. peace
Gregg is somewhat shy and the questions about Duanes tragedy still hurts. I think he prefers to remember the good times with his big bro instead. Although the questions asked in this interview, were personal, difficult to talk about, and made Gregg feel uncomfortable, he answered with grace and total honesty. I think Gail was trying to get the sensationalism going, its totally wasted on Gregg, whom is a " no bullshit" kind of guy! And I think that because of all the scandal rag sensationalism that came with Cher that he is wary of the press from the get-go! One good interview ( I think) is with Dan Rather! They seem comfortable with each other and had a mutual respect going on. Much better interview!
I think it's the pace. Greg Allman is a slow talker. It doesn't play well on TV and the interviewers are nervous to pick up the pace for the producers. But, Gregg is a slow talking southern gent and you better have time for him and speak straight.
All 2017 shows now cancelled, I'd say Gregg and Dwayne will be having a face to face soon. God bless him, he surely did shape the face of modern music. "you are the one who can make us all laugh but doing that you break down in tears please don't be sad if it was a straight line you'd had we wouldn't have known you all these years..."
+Mike Maxwell I'm sure many felt the way you did 2 months ago. I did also. When I heard it I got a bad feeling, knowing what poor health he was in. So you turned out to be prophetic and it's sad. Gregg was a unique artist and person, one of the greatest blues singers ever and perhaps the single finest white blues singer. Didn't matter what color he was, he just could put across a blues song so you's know he HAD the blues. The live Whipping Post from the Fillmore East album is incredible. You could feel the pain he was singing about and he had a lot of pain inside for fuel. RIP, Gregg Allman. You can finally hang with bay bro' Duane again. Let the jams begin!
larry geetar Ironic that by singing the blues, now I can't listen to his music bc it makes me cry. This comment section is as close as I've gotten since his passing. I figure now I know how he felt when he sang. I miss him so... maybe bc it marks the passing of a season of my life too.
Gail King has no business interviewing an icon such as Gregg Allman. She has no clue. She doesn't know him, she doesn't respect him, she should just sit there and learn. Damn woman ,can you make more stupid comments ? " To me it's about the women" Really ?
Totally agree. "I was so touched by your book, I read it last night, I took a big chunk of the evening and read it" wow, a whole chunk of the evening she managed to devote to learning who he is and she wants to let him know. A busy woman like her, he should be flattered. He moves at the speed of real life in this interview and she moves at the speed of television, wants to dig up some dirt on his personal life. It's uncomfortable to watch.
Dam'let Gregg finish, Man they just rush him thru> I know they are pressed for time, but DAMMMMM! & I agree Gail King has no FKN clue> shut up Gail" Does your mother approve"shut it up Gail
I agree... Gail is a nosey, classless, clueless, pathetic excuse for an interviewer... None of your business Gail if Gregg Allman wants to get married twenty more times before he dies... "I am worried about you"... shut the f***up Gail.. You don't know Gregg Allman at all!!
Annette Baeza> lol , you have my sentiments as well> yeah Gail!! Shut the F*#€K Up!!! Crap she is so Frickin annoying , that B•%#CH wouldn't be caught dead at a Allman brothers/ Gregg Allman concert
Angie Rucker Omg Gregg even took it as a joke when he quoted her stupid question jokingly.."Does your mother approve?".... and she went ahead and replied with a solemn face..."No, I mean seriously...I mean.. your mom is what...90?" WTF
Gregg is way above these 2 nerds interviewing him. They are not truly aware of the greatness in their presence. I would have walked out on them but Gregg is a sweet gentleman.
I have no clue why they ever let Gayle interview Gregg. She sucks, I bet she never listened to an Allman Brothers song in her life. She never lets him finish talking, too bad , what a wonderful opportunity for an interviewer who actually appreciated the music this would have been . Charlie didn't do much better than dumb as s Gayle did..... Gregg was such an honest and down to earth man, and what an awesome musician, RIP Gregg......
I agree best live album, best band ever out of USA period!!!!! Let's see another top the Brothers!!!! And again forever in our hearts Duane and Gregg, Berry, Dickey, Jaimoe, Butch!!!!! It will last forever!!!! Play all night!!!!
I wish I could talk to you Mr Allman and get your encouragement to do what you done that I can't find the courage to do ,to bite the bullet and get straight.
sittin at brrothers bar on a thhrs aft non a band started setin up ,the nighthawaks ,im sittn at the bar talkin to jim in comes a large man passes an gets on the stump next to me get him one an me one he said thanks for bien yall gregg and played that night /wore it out that nite for those that showed up ,i came in there at 230pm left at 330am i think ..cant run for public offic !!!
Wow...GK did not even let him finish answering the majority of the questions she asked him. Kept changing the topic causing major confusion to him in each attempt to answer. I realize it was live TV but when you have a legend like that on your show, give the dedicated time to them and let them take their time in answering.
His ability to draw on despair.. The part towards the end of The Whipping post when he's like... SOMETIMES I FEELLLLL..... that's pain and despair if I ever heard it.....
I gotta ask how much do you no lady, there a life time you no nothing about,l heard them in 69/70and on,l always had a crush on him.l just no you could pull your Harley up to any bar\club and Always hear the Allman Brothers Always.l will miss hearing Gregg singing, and noting he was alive.the hep c takes your life away.l no l had it to,l was able to get rid of it with the new meds.but l almost died 3times.You can't escape or hide from diseases.RIP Gregg, love yah bro.thanks for the music
All Hail Gregg Allman RIP 12/8/47-5/27/17 Funeral Macon Ga 6/3/17 ; Life celebration Macon Ga closed streets around Allman bros band Museum for all star Life Celebration for Gregg Allman 🍑🍑🍑🍄🍄☮️🌺✝️

Those two are horrible interviewers, never watch them. Gregg shoulda walked off that. But he was so kind, polite and sat thru it. 😔 R I P to the great, talented Greg Allman ... ))💙((
had tickets to see mr. Allman at the Illinois state fair. got to the fair and he canceled due to his health, that's when you knew it was bad...never got to see him DAMN
And by the way Gayle King, Gregg Allman would be the last person you should play that race shit on. Next time dig a little deeper...ever heard of Jaimoe or Oteil Burbridge?
"Believe me. You won't miss me at a Gregg Allman concert?" What the hell is THAT supposed to mean? That black people don't go to their shows? Come on! Has she SEEN Jaimoe?
Gail King is CLUELESS ! WHY is she even speaking to an icon like Gregg Allman?Read the book...Have ALL the LPs...but I never, ever thought I'd see him interviewed by Gail King???????Gregg Allman....I hope you are well & happy & folks like Ms. King need to mind their own business ..Rock ON,Gregg! We LOVE you & your music !
I have the utmost respect for Gregg but I couldn't help but notice that he said he went to rehab 11 times. In the Big Interview with Dan Rather he said it was 14 times and why I remember this statement was because he told Dan "I went 14 but not 15." It's just one of those things that stood out and I wonder why, how, or what's the reason for the change in number?
She was so very rude to him. From the start she said something like...I just read about you in one hour and the only thing I am concerned with is your flipping around with women... she is so holy.
hazor777 Second worst to the interview by Regis & Kathy Lee... "Your hair is so beautiful!... My assisstants all love your hair..." Priceless though was his reply to Gail's closing remark about an up coming concert, she signed off with her pre fab "Can't wait to see you there!" To which Gregg replied "Ya we'll be sure & look for you." Oh no he di' int! btw Gregg knew something about honor, that's why he married his women.
@@annecollins7065 I do think he had beautiful hair though and i am a bit younger than him but in his day he was a handsome man i am glad he found happiness before he left this world to be with Jesus and his family Duane and their parents
@@aprildannettegosa5381 For the life of me I can't quite understand my deep sadness from his passing. Now it breaks my heart to hear him sing, he so faithfully conveys the blues. I still can't listen to his music without feeling grieved. I wish he had done some gospel hymns. The pictures I come across online hold my attention too long... Maybe bc it represents the passing of a season of life? I wish interviewers showed him more interest & respect instead of treating him like one more passing fad. Beautiful face & hair, Yes. Beautiful heart, soul & man, exceptional. They all missed that.
