@@robertrichardson6947 i would disagree on that, Gregg’s voice had pain, wailing of emotions, Jim’s voice didn’t really have that.i think jim was more artsy in his music.
Correct! My boyfriend when I was seventeen was named Leland, and ironically he resembled Gregg Allman, that started my fascination with the Allman Brothers. I loved them both deeply. RIP Gregg.
Gregg lived behind me in Richmond Hill, Ga. He drove a special colored corvette a lot everywhere with also his bikes. We used to drive up his neighborhood and went to his door a couple times. His planter by the front door was a pair of his jeans shellacked. He sent me and my husband an 8x10 signed photo which I still have. This was over 20 years ago. Absolutely loved running into him around town. Nicest most polite soft spoken man you would ever meet… sweet memories!!
@@sherrigayle5604 Back in 83 I was 23 he came to a little club called Hartees Pub in Greensburg Pa. Me and my sister and her boyfriend went we were drinking needles to say and at the end Gregg was signing autographs. I stood in line and when it was my turn I kissed him, he smiled I walked away shocked 😆 I never did get the autograph. Cheers 🥂
@@julenepegher6999 Amazing story and memory you have too of him… he truly was a gentleman and I can bet you can remember that kiss like it was yesterday…😘😁
We booked him for one of our Love Rides. When he sat at the keyboards and played, "I'm no Angel," I've never heard a more powerful beginning to a concert. His musicianship was amazing.
@@christinerobinson9372 we used to call them Toy Runs. Generally a reason for folks on motorcycles to get together to give away money...to folks who need it. Gregg and his brother both loved motorcycles. And,uh, I was at both concerts that were featured in this video, live next door to a docent of the Big House. Good to be in Macon, still.
I remember back when I was barely in my 20's, around 1974, lying on my king-size waterbed, stoned to the gills on acid, my headphones clamped to my head, listening to the 4 or 5 Allman Brothers' Band albums I had, one after the other. One of the all-time best concerts I ever had the privilege of hearing in my life.
Aww Gregg, Any age, Any stage, anywhere, anytime, you will always be beautiful to me. You and your Brothers caught my heart in the early 70’s, and still have it. Peace be with you!
Their music is a friendly reminder of my life lived. But I have always loved him and his lyrics. A darkness was always around him but he kept going with that sweet smile. He is so missed today. And when any of his songs come on the radio I crank the volumn up and the world slips away.
Ya, he and his brother had a rough life. Their dad was murdered when the boys were just a few years old. Their Mother had to send them to a military school so she could put herself thru school to learn a skill to raise her boys. But Gregg felt like she abandoned him. (As he got older he said he realized the she did the best she could) But to live without either parent at such a young age I'm sure takes it's toll on a young child.. Then to lose his brother at such a young age! Gregg definitely experienced some pain in his life!
@@loilt5091 Maybe not by your standards. I was not a groupie and don't have a tattoo with "Allman Brothers Forever" inside a big heart. But who are you to judge my level of fandom?
I first saw the Allman Brothers in 1972, just a few months after Duane died. I would see them 7 more times...Gregg's voice was the best blues voice anywhere. It had some rough times, but when he got off the drugs and alcohol, it came back and he was singing like a young man again...what a great musician, good soul. ABB had a huge influence on me musically. I'm 63 and I still listent to their music and marvel at what a great collection of musicians they were.
I’m so Grateful to be a child of the ‘60’s and raised on this Music. Thank You Gregory for sharing your Life & Music with us, you changed the World and Music forever. Oh, just for The Record, Rock & Roll was Born in the South so there’s No Such Thing as “Southern Rock”, there’s only Rock & Roll and I guess Yankee Rock.
I saw so many concerts in the ‘70s, but I never got to see him, sadly. Great singer/songwriter, and I still listen to his “Laidback” album all the time. Miss you. RIP ☮️✌️💕
I saw The Allman Brothers 4 times between 1979-1981 during my high school years. The Dickie Betts years. Only regret?? Never saw them again. I can hear the Gospel Blues coming down from Heaven with Gregg & Duane. Jesus has front row seats for every show.
My older brother had their albums. I would look at the album jackets and we would talk as the music played. I was 11 my brother 16. My brother died unexpectedly two years ago. Hearing the soulful sound of Gregg’s voice now is gut wrenching and also bittersweet. It takes me back to happy times. When you lose a sibling the pain is always there. When Gregg said they took him into the chapel….I felt that because I also experienced that.
@@Zapheteroped Hey! Thanks for even thinking of doing that. I always wonder how people that are famous behave in real life. Everyone has good and bad days, I know I do! 😊
I’ve been in love with Gregg since 1975, I was sixteen, I’ve probably seen him perform 10 times and same as you in all different venues. On time he came to Greensburg Pa. to a place called Harty’s Pub a big club. He was solo. I was 23. After he was signing autographs, I stood in line and waited when it was my turn, I leaned over and kissed him, no lie but I absolutely could not have done it if I hadn’t had a little alcohol. He smiled I walked away. A fantastic memory. I never did get the autograph.
@@cherrimullins9632 I was 16 in 75 so I’m 62, I used to hang out at a friends cellar, we listened to I remember mostly Brothers and Sisters, one night this boy walked in gorgeous resembled strongly Gregg Allman, after awhile he asked me out we dated my senior year. It didn’t last though but he was the love of my life. Great times back then, thanks for replying.
@@julenepegher6999 Yep,62 as well,March 14,1959...and I still love long hair on guys, but not too many of those left.I was in Detroit and Grand Rapids, teens and my 20'sand was lucky enough to see Everyone in concert! My stepmom took me to Alice Cooper, but wouldn't let me hit the j...s being passed around!😁🎸
I was so jealous of my brother who worked security for the Allman brothers band. I was only 14 at the time...but of all the bands he did security for, it was The Allman brothers band I wanted to see the most. 😊 He said Greg was a nice down to earth guy. I still have a couple of their albums. R.I.P. Greg ! 😊
I listened to a million rock songs on the radio in 1972,but when I heard BLACK HEARTED WOMAN one night, that was it for me. As this wasnt in the USA, it took me YEARS to finally detect WHO the artists were. And that was me buying all of their records immediately.
Honestly, Gregg Allman is severely, hell I would go as far as saying criminally, under rated as a lyricist, a vocalist and a musician. Amazing blues voice
Man, I don't believe in heaven or hell, but for this dude, I do wish there were heaven so that he could join his big brother after so many years. I believe he missed Duane so much, so long.
I've been a big fan of the Allman Brothers even before Duane Allman played on the Layla love songs album and I become a huge fan of Gregg Allman he writes this beautiful songs please the guitar is so great and sings with that wonderful voice of his may Gregg Allman and Duane and your entire band be remembered always in his songs play on forever
Great Band! I was fortunate enough to win front row seats off the best radio station in St. Louis Missouri K-SHE 95 ,,, At the River Port Amphitheater . It was epic and one of the top 5 concert's i ever seen, A young Lad of 16 years of age played Slide Guitar like 2nd to none. I believe it was Dicky's nephew maybe,,, Not sure on that anymore, but he was a wicked guitar picker for sure! Greg did a awesome job,, never missed a lick. I very much appreciate seeing them up close and personal,,,
Got a chance to see The Allman Brothers Band, with the Blues Travelers opening act, Great show my only con was that The Allman Brothers Band played a mash up of all their hits coming back to the one the started with Sweet Mallissa , and I know the time of one Allman Brothers Band song can take 20 minutes or more so show time is limited, but we still enjoyed
Last piece of new vinyl I ever bought was I’m no angel then they quit making albums I think a few new bands found the love of vinyl and put out albums and that’s great vinyl should never die just like Greg Allman should have never died none of the really great ones should
I’ve rode down Hillcrest Avenue so many times to this day. We walked thur Rosehill Cemetery back in October, when we were teens in the 70’s we’d sit on Elizabeth Reeds grave and smoke a dobbie but my best memory is meeting Gregg at a jam session at a home on Rocky Creek Road in Macon!!
Hearing how Greg found the title to his song, Melissa, reminds me a lot of how Carol Connors found a line to a different song, that was also terribly in need of finishing. And, that had her pouring over it, until she did. At least, that's what it said in an article I read somewhere, several decades ago. What she had so far was, "Come show me your kindness, "In your arms I know..." Somewhere in there is where it ended. Although she wanted to use the first part, it just wasn't working. I want to say that what happened was in a diner, a gas station, or a grocery store. It was a long time ago. Anyway, someone came up to the counter, maybe even pointed at some directions or a map, and said, "I need to find this. Find THIS". When her brain latched onto it, there it was. The rest of the line: "Come show me your kindness In your arms I know I'll find this". I don't know about anyone else, but, I consider it one of the most stirring and romantic stanzas of lyrics I've ever heard. When you hear the music and lyrics together, I think it sets a mood that's very clear. BTW, this comes from a frustrated song writer, who will never hear a piece of my music outside a few garage bands.
I have enjoyed watching and listening to this in depth and insightful video so very, very much. A splendid job of capturing the essence of some of the greatest rocking blues artists of all time. I woke up one morning, out of the blue with the song I'm No Angel running clear through my mind to start the day. I don't know why, but caused me to look back and really, really appreciate what fine artist all of them were. Thank you for creating this great video!
Great musician all around. His book tells the long story of him trying to get sober which he finally did. His songwriting and singing are just superb! And no slouch on organ or guitar! RIP Greg.
We all have prejudices, and my opininion of Gregg Alman changed when I was able to see his interviews and learn what he was like. Nothing like I had assumed...seems like he was a good guy.
My older brother's friend knew them. I didn't believe him until I met him at a show and he had an all-stage pass. I got a ride on Greg's motorcycle but didn't meet him.
I use to love this show. I'd get mad if I slept late. An hour and a half every Sunday morning. ☕🎸🎹🎵🎶 Even had a girlfriend for a few years that made it part of her routine as well. They've changed. Can't even follow their RU-vid channel. Anyway, back then it was just modern chit chat and art. It was beautiful.
In Gregg’s book he says the Fillmore concert was a disaster from the bands point of view. Gregg couldn’t hear the music. Also he was called Gregory by this family and friends, which he preferred. Cher wasn’t his love of life, he said “she was a nice girl”. He didn’t get along with Dickey, at all.
I wonder if these famous singers, etc. realize that people they have never met are praying for their salvation in Jesus Christ. So very happy and thankful when you see results in their lives. Praise God for his goodness.
My best friend and I in 1978 mcgreg Dickies at a club there in Daytona after the show we went with them 2 Buena Vista Apartments on Beach Street he had a three-bedroom apartment we hung out all night doing what you know what we're doing something I'll never forget he was arrogant at first but he came around real funny guy had a great time
