• CCC Open Collaboration...
This is my video for the Claire's Craft Corner Open Collaboration this weekend. I decided to run some tests with UV resin and interference nail pigment powders to see how they work using a few different techniques.
Materials used :
JDiction UV resin
UV nail lamp + flat mirror
Silicone pendant moulds
Interference nail art powders
Holographic nail art powder
Sponge tip applicator
White and black mica powder
Jump rings / pinch bails / glue-on bails for finishing
Small hand jewellery drill to drill holes in the pieces if you're attaching jump rings or pinch bails
E6000 or superglue if you're using glue-on bails
Absolutely everything came from Amazon except for the mirror which I've had in a drawer for 20 years, and the superglue came from the supermarket.
I can see so much potential with these powders and I'm looking forward to using them again!
Music in this video is by Doctor Turtle, from the music library on Movie Maker.
Video filmed on a FairPhone 4

Those came out so pretty. I don’t know why I’m so afraid of making jewelry. I’m just weird, I guess. LOL Seriously, though, they all came out gorgeous. 👏🏻

Thank you Diana. I am always scared of messing up the final piece of jewellery, but resin pendants are really very forgiving and simple to make. Please do try - you can do it!

If you put your mould on the lid of the cardboard box Mary you can slide it further back to get less light. I have to admit I do struggle with uv resin at times but J diction is my preferred uv resin. I love that little mould they would make amazing earrings. I love labradorite and as soon as you said it I thought YES what a brilliant idea. They came out AMAZING ‼️ I love them Mary. The holo pigment you have is designed to go over tacky black gel polish for full on holo spectrum nails so putting onto black was the best way to use it. A great and informative video with fantastic results. If you put your mat ones on black card you should be able to tell the colours. ❤❤❤❤

Thank you so much for the holo powder tips. I've seen a video showing how nail artists use it and I still haven't quite adapted that to work in my projects yet. It's black backgrounds all the way for me with all of these powders, but I think I may just use black epoxy so I can get a darker background

What happens if you mix them into black resin and white resin, is it a diffrent effect then just being backed?
@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417
@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417 3 месяца назад
It's a great question. If you mix these powders into black resin you may possibly see a bit of metallic shimmer but that's it. Unless you use a huge amount it would mostly just get swallowed up by the resin and not really show up the colour shift properly. In the white I think you'd also have the same issue. These powders are actually designed for nail art so usually they would be buffed onto the surface of UV gel nail that has almost but not quite fully cured. It bonds to that and it causes the interference colours we see and that's top-coated with clear to seal it in. Using it for crafting it definitely works better if you dust the mould or add it to the backs of some UV or epoxy resin so that the pigment can properly catch the light. If you add it to the back of pieces that are domed on the front you also get the domed part behaving like a lens, so it magnifies the colours and textures which is lovely. I hope that all makes sense.

So much inspiration! I particularly like the hairsprayed and scratched ones. I have several tins of various nail art pigments and I always pass them by as I don't now how to used them. I also have a box of tiny pendants that are too fiddly to drill made with left over resin.
@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417
@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417 4 месяца назад
Thanks Mizz. I got enticed by the tiny squares even though I'd said I wasn't going there! I was thinking they'd look good used as mosaic tiles on something, that way I wouldn't have the terror of drilling them!

@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417

The mould already had cured UV resin in it. I would never scratch directly onto a mould like that because it would absolutely wreck it!
