These are so beautiful and they will make your wheelchair and yourself standout of the crowd! I could imagine if you have that on your chair, it's like you put some Bling to yourself, like juwelery does. Well done Mary, love them! Greetings Maggy Phoenix
I think you are so brave… the decision to make these yourself was most definitely the right one… but it must have been a daunting one!! The whole process was a huge undertaking, and you pulled it off perfectly! They turned out to be absolutely superb Mary… super stunning!! You are such an inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing the process with us. Much love from Nat. (Brisbane, Australia) ♥️♥️🇦🇺
Thanks so much. It was daunting thinking about how much resin I would waste if things didn't work out, but I also knew the effect would look really cool if it worked and even with so much resin, still less expensive than buying the printed ones. I love the depth that you get with all the different layers :)
@@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417 They are most definitely better than ANYTHING you could have bought! I have a motorised scooter instead of a wheelchair, so they won’t work on that… but I want to try doing something similar and just have it as wall art!! Thank you so much for the inspiration Mary! Much love from Nat. ♥️♥️🇦🇺
I was honestly stunned when I did the area calculations. It's such a lot of resin but the effect is so beautiful so totally worth it. I'm pretty sure it was still less expensive than the printed ones but the depth on these is something you could never get from a digital print onto plastic :)
Thank you so much :) I love the super-shiny and bubble-free finish. I was worried I had overdone the glitter but with space-inspired stuff I don't think too much glitter is really a thing... :-D
Thank you so much. I know that you will understood just how happy it makes you feel when you do something fun to your mobility aids. I did a nebula paint job on my mobility scooter panels a few months ago by painting with acrylic paint then top-coated with resin. I love how that turned out too :) My day job involves astronomy so I knew my wheel discs had to be nebula-inspired too. It was lucky that my Mum gave me that gorgeous fabric that I used for the seat back because that fits in perfectly with the wheels now :)
I watched a video last night with Steve. I never know you should not have our animals in the room with us. I do wear a mask and gloves mine sleeve shirt so why is my animals not protected? I’ve heard about it before, but I didn’t think it would bother them, but apparently it does when I saw your cat it’s when I remember it 😮
Yes we really need to keep our pets safe from the fumes. I have a friend who told me that when she was a child her father used to make stuff with resin and one of their cats ended up dying as result of it. Maybe the components are less toxic these days but I won't take a chance on that. I also can't remember ever making something that didn't end up with cat hair on it, so that would be even worse if they were in the room as well!
It's a great question. If you mix these powders into black resin you may possibly see a bit of metallic shimmer but that's it. Unless you use a huge amount it would mostly just get swallowed up by the resin and not really show up the colour shift properly. In the white I think you'd also have the same issue. These powders are actually designed for nail art so usually they would be buffed onto the surface of UV gel nail that has almost but not quite fully cured. It bonds to that and it causes the interference colours we see and that's top-coated with clear to seal it in. Using it for crafting it definitely works better if you dust the mould or add it to the backs of some UV or epoxy resin so that the pigment can properly catch the light. If you add it to the back of pieces that are domed on the front you also get the domed part behaving like a lens, so it magnifies the colours and textures which is lovely. I hope that all makes sense.
You can't back the resin with anything if you've used a holographic inlay. The inlay is removed and it leaves the microtexture imprinted in the resin and that's what gives you the holographic effect. If you added mica to this you'd need to use resin to cover it, but pouring resin over the top will completely fill in all of the micro-texture and it won't be holographic any longer. I've made crystals like this and covered them with colour-shifting mica and backed it in black and that works brilliantly, but you cannot do that with a holographic inlay
These are very pretty, but I imagine they are prettier in person than on camera. If you are interested, Daniel Cooper did a RU-vid tutorial #265 on a realistic ammolite resin piece, which I think would look awesome in your ammonite molds! 😊
I find it so very fascinating to watch the flakes shift around in colour, it's different to powders but still as good. If my physics teacher had used these to illustrate some of the finer points of optics I probably would have remembered more 35 years later! Red hot moulds are amazing quality, sadly I can't get them here in Sweden due to the high extra costs for both him and me.
The flakes really are so different from the chameleon powders I have. I really love the different textures they give and it definitely means there is no chance of ever having two pieces that are exactly the same :)
I have no idea where my moulds like that went in the move, he does such fabulous and good quality moulds doesn’t he ? The olive is one of my favourites chameleon powder. So I love that one and the big one is sublime, they all look brilliant though Mary. I think they are Neodymium magnets I had some they are super dooper strong.
Love this. I use super black India ink from Dr. Ph Martins and never have an issue with curing with regular resin (or integrity of the piece). And it really is very black and only takes a drop; I actually use all of Martins inks, mixing mica for a shimmer.
I had to google what the real stone looked like and found so many different versions. Some looked exactly like these and some looked quite different. I still like these and would love to try to make some myself.
It's an absolutely stunning stone and no two pieces ever look exactly alike. I love polymer clay versions as well but I wanted to try again with resin and see how they turned out because I really don't enjoy top coating polyer clay pieces!
wow Mary - Love these results - I missed the first video so I will need to go back and watch! I also need that mould - it's the one mould I havent bought yet lol
I have seen a lot of Geckos made before… but none as beautiful as these! Honestly, I absolutely love the entire technique and colour combinations you have used. I definitely want to try this myself… so thank you so much for sharing with us Mary! I am very sorry for your loss… we lost one of our puppies just after Christmas… Bella was almost 18 years old, so she’d had a good innings (not sure if that is just an Aussie term or not?), but it is still hard when we lose them. I have now subscribed to your channel. Much love from Nat. (Brisbane, Australia). ♥️♥️🇦🇺
Thank you so much, I'm really glad you like the geckos :) I'm not usually a pastel colours person but these somehow just needed pastels in my brain and I'm glad I listened! Thanks also for your kind words about Coco. We miss the little monkey so much. 3 weeks after we lost Coco his litter mate Slinky stopped breathing and we had to give him CPR - thankfully my husband is trained in how to give CPR to babies so that's what he did and we got Slinky breathing again! He had vision loss for a few hours but he's now absolutely fine with no sign anything happened. We on the other hand aged about 20 years, lol!
OMG! Claire told me to watch this whilst we were driving to or from Makers Central (I can't remember, the whole weekend become 1 day 😂) These are exceptional Mary! Some of the best I have ever seen 100%! The video was very, very informative also! Hats of to you! You would not know that you have only tried this a few times, what is great is that you knew how to change it to work better, you smashed it! Can't wait to see more blooms from you! 😍🤩
Aww thanks so much Daniel. Pretty much everything I know about resin has come from Claire, you, Wendy and Petra, so thank you for all being such great teachers :) I'm gutted that I wasn't able to go to Maker's Central this year but I had an important work thing going on that had to take priority. Hopefully I can be there next year and I hope you're able to go again too :)
Thanks so much. Your video in the collab reminded me of how much I miss fluid art. I've not had time or space for it recently but there are some techniques I want to play with again :)
@@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417 I have watched all the videos in this collab and maybe getting some inspiration. Like I hope to give some inspiration to the people that watch my video of the collab 😉
Thank you! I love the black ones best too. I hope you had a lovely time at Maker's - saw a photo of you and Claire together! I'm so gutted I wasn't able to get there this year but I had an important work thing happening. I hope to get there again next year :)
@@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417 It was vreat thank you, I was hoping you would be there I would love to meet you! Fingers crossed next year we're all going to be there!:0)xx
