I recall one documented case in Montana where a woman used a .22 cal pistol to save her life during a grizzly bear attack. She and her husband were walking near the tree line when a huge grizzly bear came out of the trees and charged them. The woman reactively drew her small .22 semi auto and shot her husband in the legs dropping him in front of the bear and allowing her time to run away to safety.

It almost seemed like the 40gr RN acted like a 62gr 5.56 where it seemed to tumble and cause damage. Interesting results thank you for your videos.
@douglasmaccullagh7865
@douglasmaccullagh7865 3 года назад
That's what I was thinking. For the combination of wound channel and penetration, the 40 gr sold seemed the winner, probably due to tumbling. I remember reading that the 5.56 is designed to tumble, too, once it hits something other than air.
@roughneckactual2646

@@douglasmaccullagh7865 The 62gr M855 is definitely meant to tumble. Something like the 55gr M193 has a velocity threshold where its lethality comes from fragmentation. Lots of schools of thought in ammo choice when barrel length and whatever else is taken into consideration.

I have hunted with a Marlin 39A since 1966 and I mean I hunted hard, mostly for squirrels. I tried most brands that I can think of, but CCI mini mag hollow points convinced me years ago that they are the best. I've never had one not fire and their lethality on game as large as coons, groundhogs and bobcats is incredible within 75 yards.

This was impressive to watch. I survived being shot in the head twice with a .22LR. It hurt like Hell and almost killed me. At the hospital when they did a CAT scan, they said there were shockwave patterns still visible on the brain. Seeing it in the gel was neat to watch. Although it had me thinking back to that moment I heard the gunshot and a fraction of a second later felt the impact. Don't underestimate the .22LR!

In self-defense, you need people to be in pain and close to death on the first shot. People have been shot with .38 long colt over and over, before going down. For self-defense, you start at .380 ACP and go up, backup guns start at .25 ACP and go up from there.

@Rob-dp3vr
@Rob-dp3vr 7 лет назад
One of the most overlooked factors is that a .22 will allow you to stay on target with more rounds in a quick burst. Since most agree that shot placement trumps caliber, this factor should be considered heavily. If someone kicks in your door, and you have a short amount of time to lob rounds at them, the low recoil of the .22 will allow you to get more shots on target because of less re-target time in between. You take a .44, or a .38, a 9mm, and you may get on target with your first shot, but very often the shooter misses with many of their next shots in a situation where you only have time to react and start firing. You don't have time to bring your hand and eye back in to position, look through your sites, and aim calmly. That being the case, many of your next shots may be off target because the first shot moved your aim off target. With a .22, you aim, and can then unload a magazine all more likely on target because your aim didn't move. Velocitor rounds in a 10/22 Charger with a 15 round magazine is a worthy home defense weapon, as an option of course. It's also a firearm that husband, wife, and daughter can grab and feel confident, if need be. I prefer a 12 gauge if I have the time to choose, but a .22 makes for a versatile weapon. You can also take it outside to take down a coyote attacking your dog, hunt hogs, kill varmints, etc. I think every home should have a .22, and if you want your wife to open up to protecting herself, have her fire a .22 so she's not scared off.

Stephen Britt More deer have been killed illegally with .22WMR than all other calibers combined. Yeah, it's stouter, but .22LR will do the job, too. I've known guys that only hunted for meat and didn't give a damn about what is and isn't allowed that killed countless doe with a single .22LR to the head at like 25-75 yards. .22's not a powerhouse, but it'll kill stuff.
@georgesakellaropoulos8162
@georgesakellaropoulos8162 4 года назад
@@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney I've seen this, too. In addition to head shots, if you use a round nose, and double lung them, let them run off. They'll typically go 50-75 yards,and lie down. Wait 30 minutes before tracking. You'll find them dead, and 99 times out of 100, you'll find the bullet under the skin on the opposite side. Don't try this past 70 yards or so.

I'm 44 seconds in and I am so excited to see this test. The mini mag hp has been my hunting round of choice for my 22's and now I'm going to see what it actually does.....YES!

I installed an ER SHAW 18 " Tapered barrel on my Ruger 10/22 along with the BSA Sweet .22 3-9 X 40 scope and I zeroed at 50 yards with the CCI 32 grain Stinger Hollow Point bullet it's shooting sub moa groups well under 1 inch at 50 yards .the 36 grain copper plated Remington HP shoot well also .thank you for the you tube reviews I have learned from them.

Thanks for the nice close up photos of the spent rounds. Great to see which mushroomed so well. I was surprised at the turbulence caused in the gel, which seemed to be cause by the round nose.

Excellent video Tn, really like the clear gel......No body does these kind of videos like you do, you take your time and show in detail all segments of the test, and very well explained thru-out the video. Thanks for doing the .22 cal. its a really over looked caliber.....Thumbs-Up.
