CCM Super Tacks X Helmet vs Bauer Hyperlite Hockey Helmet - Which is better ? 

Great video, always excited to see new ones from you guys. I’ve heard a lot of unfortunate controversy over the Virginia Tech testing so when buying a new helmet I wasn’t purely going off of it, however oddly enough the helmet that fit me like a glove was their number two rated RE-AKT 200. It’s a bit on the heavier side but it’s so comfortable compared to my old entry level CCM bucket. Try on helmets before buying them if you can, all the research I did basically got thrown out the window when I started trying them on. Thanks to your vids I learned about Hockey Ninja and am currently waiting for the titanium visor/cage combo mask to ship out hopefully soon. Cheers and keep up the content! 🍻

Great video! I actually use the ccm X helmet and I love it, it’s super comfortable on my head and I definitely notice and like how it breathes.

Just bought a hyperlite x, fantastic helmet! So light! And fit is phenomenal. I’ve been blessed with giant Asian head and I certainly appreciate the ability to adjust the side to side.

For those wondering on the CCM. I’ve used it in about 6 games now. Since starting hockey in 1997 this CCM is the lightest and coolest feeling helmet I’ve worn. I mostly bounced around old Bauer models most my life. I’m not sure I will ever switch away

I've had both helmets. I'm going back to the CCM super tacks X. The hyperlite is not NEARLY as comfortable. The CCM is UBER comfortable and vents extremely well.

Preach it, I'm thrilled with the helmet advances! As hockey players we have to keep DEMANDING better helmet protecting. Concussions simply haven't been taken nearly as seriously in hockey as they have in sports like American football.

The Virginia tech test is simulating a years worth football data. Football head contacts are not the same as hockey contacts. Falls and puck shots and random head contact would be the main factors. Football is constantly head to body or head to head impacts. My son has taken a slapper in head with his Tacks and he came back smiling. He was amazed on how much he did not feel. ...vs just his last 910. If a material can absorb or distribute energy. That's what you are looking for. Unfortunately most helmets can't do both. If you head is going to be moved enough shake you head... concussion.

The issue with the Virginia Tech study is they use the same head dummy for each helmet... so for many helmets the helmet dosn't fit the head properly, therefore some helmets will score poorly due to a poor fit.

the hexagonal lattice is one of the strongest lightest weight shapes found in nature and of course recreated by man. almost always used in rocket/space engineering technology and other things needing strong yet extremely lightweight structure. its really cool to see that in a hockey helmet i never would have thought i would see a hexagonal lattice in a dang helmet lol but it really makes perfect sense.i really want to try one on

Man, these are hard to do because soooo much is based on fit, head shape, wearing a visor/cage/none, how much someone sweats. But, thank you for the input and review.

I currently wear a Bauer Re-Akt and it is very comfortable. I personally don’t trust the Virginia Tech Hockey Helmet ratings because of their bizarre testing features. They test the helmet by swinging a hammer at just one side of the helmet. Probably one side of the helmet would protect better than the other side. Furthermore, they should test it for real world hockey impacts. The ratings aren’t just human enough because the fake human (a dummy) that they are using might have a different head shape than some hockey players. I would use it for a reference guide, but I don’t fully trust them. The best helmet is the Helmet that tailors to your head. Look up on websites that have the right head profile (round vs oval head shape. You can find that by looking at the top of their head and seeing if it is a round or oval outline.)

I own the Tacks X and have never experienced any discomfort....wearing a foam lined helmet now feels like I'm wearing a rock on my head and i've taken some wallops to the head wearing it and have been all good. Big thumbs up for the tacks.

I padded my helmet with cross-sliced loofa and lined it with perforated sheerling. It's awsome.

It’s so crazy that every piece of gear Tommy doesn’t like i literally can’t live without, this CCM helmet, the Bauer Agent, etc. 😅

The original ReAkt is still the best overall helmet in my opinion, also the VTech helmet test has been worthless for years.

I have the ccm tacks x helmet and I don’t get any of the rubbing or scratching you are talking about. I think it’s extremely comfy and breathable.

I have ccm x and couldn’t disagree with these guys more. With a buzz cut or with hair it is crazy comfortable, and my head temperature stays way more regulated. I’m coming from a 15 year old bauer helmet so I guess anything is an improvement but it’s light and crazy comfortable and I’d recommend ccm x to anyone that can stomach the price

i tried a ccm yrs ago and hated the way it sat on my head...i have used Bauer ever since but it makes me feel better that the Re-akt got high ratings in the VT tests

Based on Virginia Tech i bought React 200 year ago and i love it.

So my $35 Easton E700 stop to this day ranks higher at #12 best helmets better than both new Hyperlite helmets and CCM top line helmets which is crazy. Imaging if Easton never sold out to Bauer and where they’d be at today. They would truly have the best sticks and gear around guaranteed.

I can say that hyperlite feels like rock in your head and many pros dont like it and use older models

I'm skating in my first game tonight with the Tacks X. I spend probably 5-10 minutes per game on the bench with my current (older but still high-end from 2017) CCM helmet off in order to cool myself. Not safe... hoping that this one can just stay on my head all hour long.

Just picked up a hyper lite. Haven't been hit in the head yet but it is, indeed, hyper light.

That hyperlite looks like frieza second form or whatever, the one where he had the weird long sloping head. How do you go from OG reakt look to this abomination

I just got the super tacks x and I am confused on if it is protective or not, because i keep hearing people say it isn’t protective but it is supposed to have the best protection.

I‘d love to buy the higher rated Bauer helmets, but they fit too narrow. CCM and even Warrior just fit better.

Tried on the hyperlite helmet and it felt really round and wasnt comfy. Ill stick to my reakt 95 thx

So here is a 9 month review for my son who has been using a large size. The hyperlite was good when we first bought it. But it's interesting you talk about the front forehead piece. My son is on the ice all year round 4-5 days a week and the front forehead protective piece came off. Also it's light but doesn't feel as protective. The back of the head also fell apart. So the Bauer has some durability issues. Went back to exchange due to durability issues of the hyperlite and picked up the CCM instead. Only been one two weeks with the CCM but my son likes it much better. Not sure about your guy doing the review and bitching about his hair getting caught and itch but to each their own I guess. All that to say I got the hyperlite based on your review a year ago and I wish I got the CCM instead. So again to each their own, your guy who reviews may want to use it for more than one skate before making such comments as he did on this video. I think your guy testing the equipment is not exactly elite level and that's what is lacking about your reviews. He is not elite level and he is not using the equipment at an elite level. So whatever "review" he gives you should be taken with a grain of salt so to speak. You may wan tot think about putting these products through players who are on the ice 5-6 sometimes 7 days a week. Instead of this dude who is seems like a "beer leaguer" at best..........

I hate the helmets with the pads because of the glue. It always fails. The nest of the ccm has been so nice so far in season 3.

pretty sure the VT study tested helmets as if they were football helmets with head to head impact, so I wouldn't recommend going on those studies by any means

I'm really glad you cited the Virginia Tech Site, and your honesty is refreshing. If you don't have it, then you should do a how to fit a helmet segment (or maybe you did?)-->fit is everything (and comfort) :) Also, I love "I have no hair" that is an interesting view point especially for older players or young guys like you who "have no hair :) "

Was not a fan of the Hyperlite fit, felt like my forehead was being pushed. Went with a CCM Tacks 910 and never looked back.

Look, for everyone wondering as far as helmets are concerned….In ANY sport, the most effective helmet for your head and protection is going to be THE ONE THAT FITS YOUR HEAD PERFECTLY or fits your head the best. Secondly, yes…the interior padding and how good it is is up to your own good judgement….the level of hockey I play, I will never buy that CCM “X” helmet, as it’s clearly designed for NO CONTACT hockey.

I would say that the tacks X helmet is not worth your money, I have already had one teammate buy it and get a concussion with it

Shockingly I as a person who sells helmets for Pro Hockey Life in Canada has to combat woefully inadequate Virgina Tech again. First things first. CCM DOES NOT WANT YOU IN THAT FL500!!! Which is V.T. highest rated helmet. I know this cause they told us themselves in a meeting when that helmet was about to come out, they also don't trust V.T. testing methods. V.T. takes football tests and applies them to hockey what has a totally different type of impacts which they don't test against. They have low rated helmets that are created by the University of Ottawa's head trauma department, so if anyone knows how to protect the head it's them. There are to many issues with V.T. to truly make them reliable.

This Virginia Tech thing ranking saved me a bunch of money. I was about to buy a terrible helmet thinking I was being smarty by paying more. Absurd.

Helmets, mouth guards, internal padding, etc. do not prevent concussions. I am not sure why that is such a difficult concept for people to understand. Of course, they are probably better than nothing, but that does not mean they make a significant difference in concussion prevention. People have sustained concussions from being hit in the body -- how could a helmet prevent that? The mechanism for injury for Concussions stems from the movement of the head via the neck. Again, something a helmet can not prevent.
