This is a miniature Wimshurst machine I built using CDs for the rotating discs. A Wimshurst machine uses couter-rotating discs to produce large amounts of static electricity that make a loud spark like lightning.
Be warned that the video does not truthfully depict the sparks - they look much better in real life. In the future, I intend to build a much larger Wimshurst machine capable of 2 to 3 inch sparks, using this as a model and reference.
