Mark picked up his first cigarette as a teenager to fit in with friends. Life moved quickly and he continued to smoke until age 42, when doctors told him he had rectal cancer, one of many cancers that are linked to smoking. In this video from CDC's Tips From Former Smokers campaign, Mark talks about the harsh treatments he endured to save his life.

I'm proud to be a part of the 2015 CDC Tips from Former Smokers campaign to encourage people to stop smoking and get screened for colon cancer.

The kicker is that I see people that are twice this guy's age that smoke. They have no signs of cancer. That doesn't mean that these people have optimal health. No way! The real message here? Schedule a colonoscopy as a routine preventative measure. And, obviously, don't smoke! Stop smoking! Don't ever smoke!

Colorectal cancer is just one of many types of cancers caused by smoking . Watch former smoker Mark tell his story.

Milo Daimen These videos are not junk, they are there to inform people who might be smoking and tell them the bad effects of it.

Michelle Lin and it still makes me want to smoke. so its doing the opposite of what the intent was. If the add was to get people to smoke its working. I am tired of people telling others to quit. pathetic if you ask me.

Milo Daimen These are just stories, they're not directly telling you what to do. You can say it's junk, but I wouldn't say it is...I would say that this is important information.

CDC makes recommendations for the public’s health but is not in a position to provide individual medical advice. You can talk to your healthcare professional to figure out what’s best for you.

Have any studies actually shown that smoking can cause colorectal cancer?
@CDC
@CDC 7 лет назад
The 2014 Surgeon General’s Report, The Health Consequences of Smoking-50 Years ofProgress, reviewed studies regarding smoking and cancers of the colon andrectum and determined that the evidence is sufficient to conclude that smokingcan cause colorectal cancer. The studies are discussed in Chapter 6 of thereport, which you can download: bit.ly/2yVGP19

I love my ostomy bag the moment I woke up with my most likely permeant ostomy bag was the happiest day for me because of my issue (not cancer) also re this ad the link between cigarettes and colorectal cancer is not nearly as clear as lung, bladder or kidney cancer etc heart disease it might've caused his cancer but you can't be sure
