RIP, I knew mods for this game could be janky, but they were how I was hoping to make the game playable for myself. I like the simulator elements, but like zomboid the deathloop part of gameplay isnt my thing with how long a game like this takes to actually play beyond learning it. Still, an enjoyable tutorial, your videos are really nicely done and make this game a lot more accessible. Last time I was looking at the game I was reading all sorts of pages on the wiki, which is fun, but doesnt give the same perspective as hearing it from someone.
You can circumvent permadeath by turning off autosave and quicksaving. If you die you alt-f4 and load your quicksave, it's not how CDDA is meant to be played but it's a game so play the way you find it the most fun.
It's my opinion that the whole "automatically install mods" attitude comes from other games. Many games, even AAA games, the mods have the reputation of actually make things better. That maybe a modder knows more and actually plays, unlike devs. But in CDDA, this is not true. Most of these CDDA mods that are not included don't even tell you what they do.
Every single CDDA mod I've seen came with a documentation explaining their purpose and what they change. Just because they don't mention: "this item has these stats and spawns in these locations" doesn't mean they don't tell you what they do. The difference is that most games don't drastically overhaul parts of their game several times a month meaning for larger mods either mod devs spend countless hours going though dozens to hundreds of PRs only for the mod to be broken in 2 days when a new version comes or they only release the original and maybe update it once or twice a year meaning it's next to impossible to have several mods you like working at the same time.
Hi @TheMurderUnicorn. I just want to know two things: Why should I not use the Kenan modpack? And I saw a Fallout mod in the video that made me curios. Is it safe to use? Love your videos and it is helping me to learn a lot of the game, thank you.
The Fallout mod, I don't know if it's up to date, you can find it on the forum, I'm not sure where it's hosted discourse.cataclysmdda.org/ And then for the modpack, you can pick and choose mods from it and it will mostly be fine. The problem is that many people slap 20-150 mods together. As I said in the video, the mods might technically 'work' but they don't work together. as a new player, you want to learn how the game works and lots of mods change the game's progression and balance significantly. This breaks the vanilla experience and makes it so that players can't really help you with problems you have.
Dizzying, you're pretty smart for a horse & you might be even smarter than Mr Ed. Oh, you're an Unicorn though. So really you're only average smart for being an Unicorn ;).
