This videos shows another Mooney CDL Training video on how to parallel park a truck. The Mooney videos cover pre-trip inspection, backing and driving skills identical to what you would learn at a truck driver school.
Passing the CDL test is when you study hard, if you can’t study or you don’t have time for your studies I’d advise you get yourself a help like Mr James .
Hello Mooney, I know this is an older video but the information doesn't run out of date. I wanted to thank you for this video. Today I passed my backing and road test and got my CDL. I failed my first two parallel attempts using the skills my school taught me. Using their method I was coming in too sharp an angle and had a hard time getting it in the box without using my pullups and get outs. Since this was my final attempt and I didn't want to fail again using the same methods they taught me, I used your method of counting to three, moving the steering wheel all the way in the other direction while moving and noticed I came in at a smaller angle to the box, which is what I wanted. I then placed my tandems on the left white line, turned all the way right, then left, and was in the box with no whistles from the examiner. I then pulled a bit forward and right to straighten up. Stepped out of the cab, my first time, walked around the truck, gave the examiner a grin, stepped in the cab and pulled the highway horn. I had several people watching me and they said I looked like a PRO, and I felt like one too. Guys I didn't even know standing there saying DAMN. I want to thank you for helping me get past the parallel and getting my CDL. Take care, Paul
His Follower Paul , How awesome is that!!! so happy for you. Thankyou for your kind words, I'm glad that the video helped. But, it was you behind the wheel that made it work. Great job. Again congratulations and good luck with your driving career. kind regards, Chick Mooney.
Congratulations! Hopefully I will be getting mine in a few months. I hope this method helps me too, since most of my instructors seem to don't care, I will try my best :)
my test is on the 30th and this move is killing me, im so inconsistent, sometime i get it, sometimes i dont. i havent figured out exactly what im doing yet. Im going to try and mimic this. I think my tandems are further back then the videos but i love how it was explained. I hope it clicks, only got 3 days to get it right.
I start practicing in the rig on monday im alittle nervous but i know ill do fine ill be patient and stay focus and watch all around my surroundings. Ill keep watching this video
Thank you for this tutorial, I went thru swift company "training" and it was an absolute nightmare where the students were left pretty much to train each other, on parallels and offsets we were told to begin by only turning the wheel one time opposite of whatever direction we were going, guys were ending up all over the place as a result, but by doing hard turns clearly makes more sense, I only wish I went with u guys instead, I am not any longer pursuing trucking, swift is a lousy place to learn anything!!!
Thats how i was told to as well in my truck driving school was to first start turning the wheel one time and then when i see the tape on my trailer to turn the wheel two times and then follow my trailer in and i must say that sometimes their methods dont work at all and also we the students basically were teaching our own selfs as well.
@@fargeeks that's great, if you drive a bus then why TF r u interested in this video. Just stop commenting you sound dumb, take a look at your channel lol.
At the driving school my job sent me to, they paired you up with 4 different instructors and each one had a different way of doing this exercise. When the moment of truth came at the test I used THIS technique and I completed the exercise. Thanks for posting!
This video here just solved 4 weeks of my parallel parking struggles. I had the maneuver lost, got it again and than lost it again. This video gave me what I needed to master the maneuver and the confidence to pass my test. Thank you for posting this. Your appreciated.
As an cdl instructor the way there teaching it will set u up to be a bad driver. There teaching u how to do this if all variables are the same. If ur school has a day cab it will be different or even a shorter trailer. What they should be doing is teaching is how to look, aim and access the situation because when ur out in the real world there's no cones or perfect messurements.
Repeat the maneuvers with the steering wheel on points because I lost the order. Example 1- in the clockwise direction. 2-counter clockwise. 3-in the clockwise direction Thank you!
I passed my CDL today in Illinois thanks to your video. I had to make small adjustments because I don't have a sleeper cab and I was using a 40 ft hopper bottom. If it hadn't been for this video I would have failed
I watched a lot of parallel parking videos and this one was the one that did it for me. Most accurate one of them all. Made a few small adjustments and i passed my test. Thank you so much.
For those new drivers out there, it is rare that you will ever do this maneuver but not impossible... for example. You will find that in some rest areas there is no pull through or even back in lot parking, but side parallel parking, and there will be a spot that you can do this maneuver on. Other than that ive never had to do this at all. This was a perfect example though. Well done on the video 👌
@@mwood65 Vehicles in big cites and downtown like atmospheres. Big rigs have to parellel park quit often especially in night-time hours in packed truck stops. Drivers DO USE THIS MANEUVER from time to time in the real world.
I am an experienced trucker, but, on occasion, I hire guys who recently were trained/got their CDL, so, I look for video's on RU-vid that I think will help them. I must say...I LEARNED SOMETHING in this video! I love the way you have set up your camera's...great narration, and, within 2 minutes, you get the lesson. You guys rock!
haha. I've been caught. when making theses videos it took multiple days of filming to cover all the information I wanted for the final product. Dave Hansen and STX Trucking were kind enough to share their vehicles but it wasn't always the same tractor. KW one day and Peterbuilt on another. hopefully it's not to distracting. thanks for watching, hope the videos help. Chick
thank you a lot! I just practiced few days backing up, and I had a lot of trouble with it. even backing up straight. I watched this video, and I had to back up to the left and right. I had trouble backing up to the left, and pulled up 3 times. but I did park correctly. but parrarel parking to the right i did it this way. and backed in properly l, with 1 small pull up. I passed the test. couldn't do it without you!!! thank you!
bro.. this video filled in the gap that my trainer left open for me. it gave me the ques i needed to past my test. Thank you so much! you saved my life
Truck stops past 3 or 4PM are usually crazy and full. I've had to parallel park between trucks who had to make up a parking space more than a few times. y'all, just because somebody else told you they've only had to do this kind of maneuver once or twice, doesn't mean you won't have to do it much much more
Im confused about a minor detail in your video. Your driving a Kenworth W900, correct? Buy when you show the steering wheel movement from inside the cab, you have a Peterbilt steering wheel
Great Video ! , just making 100 % at 0.34 sure it didn't look like the very rear end of the trailer was side by side with the front cone and at 1:03 the rear passenger side axles enter the box, are you referring to the rear axles at the end of the trailer ?, or the tandem axles right by the cab on the passenger side ?. Thanks for the help.
Thank you thank you. Was having issues getting this one down for sone reason. And watched this one time..and i nailed it 3 times in a row. Thank you for the simplicity of explaining it!!!!
Back in 1979 when I took my (then) Class 1 triple Tractor Trailer license road test. I had to parallel park between two parked cars. I was in a truck with a box trailer and no looking back allowed and no do overs. We also had to stop several times on an very steep hill. No rolling back allowed. Plus back up perfectly straight for a block. I have used all those skills schlepping heavy equipment around NYC. When I worked for the Park Dept. My small Trac loader was kept on a large 12 wheel tag trailer attached to a crew cab dump truck. Every time I used that machine. I had to parallel park the rig against the back wall at the end of the day. The large Track loader was kept on a drop neck lowboy trailer. Sometimes you have a nice place to park. Sometimes you have to parallel park and side load. The first time you drive your rig down a Manhattan side Street, weaving around parked cars and delivery trucks. Only to find out that the street is blocked off at the end. So you have to back all the way back down the street and into a major street like 5th Avenue. That's what will test your skills. LOL Been there, done that.
thank u very much for the great video lessons! it super important that we can see u hands when u turn wheel. it so fruitful thing! Can u uploaded other videos? like, alley dock or blind parking?
at the brink of giving up. im 2 weeks into CDL school and feel like i have not improved one bit. i have trouble even backing up straight. perhaps this isnt meant for everyone
Hello Mooney, I'm so glad that I found your videos and subscribed. I hope you can give me your earnest opinion. I'm a Asian woman and in the 40's. Do you recommend for female to get a CDL and is the industry have the opportunity for female as well? I prefer OTR over local driving. Thank you.
in Maine at least.....the lane you back from is also only 12 feet wide so these videos would be a Fail.......in both blind side and driver side parking videos the tractor swings way too far out ...away from the parking spot on the way in.... we have to do much smaller turns in order to pass.... in what states can you parallel park with 20 to 30 ft, of open backing lane to swing in ?
I find doing this on blindside is easier. Cuz when I go to look out driver side mirror i can see the truck behind me and determine when to cut in and straighten out. But that's just me and my method. Also GOAL at set points to make sure I'm not all up on the curb even tho it's easy to see when that's happening.
Video is kinda useless for instruction, this may be good for this truck that has a sleeper cab and 53' van behind it. Try cranking the wheel all the way on on single axle daycab with anything shorter for 3 seconds and you'll be damn near a 90 degree angle. Not to mention some trucks have a higher reverse ratio and will come back way faster. Video is good for showing the concept though.
Wow, best video I have seen on this. I just got my permit I'm 19 and want to nail the test on my first try 🙃 😂 I grew up around trucks so it has been nice for me.
Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way. Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out. Look for signs that you are saved. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless.
This is very helpful! What I cannot understand is how there appears to be different movement in doing the sight side vs the blindside. Can someone explain this
I'm watching the steer tires and fyi the driver is not doing what the narrator is saying. For example, the driver never straightens the truck and just backs straight for a bit.
Just took my parallel test in texas and they are making us do it with three Cones in the front of the trailer not 4. Unfortunately i didn’t pass my first try.
I love parallel parking a big truck. He would have had more fun if the tandems on the trailer were all the way back. The trailer would not have turned as quickly then
This is the easy version of parallel parking where you have all the space in front of the truck to swing it wide. It won't help you in places like NYC where you HAVE to do this maneuver with cars parked on both sides of the road. Good for teaching the basics in a controlled setup, but I think other maneuvers should be taught for the scenario I explained. Cause most places where you would have to do this would be in big cities like NYC.
In the UK, by the time you’d have completed this manoeuvre a car or van would have stolen your space. Most truck drivers would just drive in straight and mount the curb before shunting backwards and forwards about a dozen times 😂.
does it make a difference on how i turn if i am using a side bay trailer that is about 35ft. i know they turn faster. should i make less turns on thr wheel
If you have ever had to layover in a Walmart or shopping center parking lot you you have a good chance of having to to this maneuver to get into a spot where you won't wake up in the morning and be surrounded by cars that are now shopping inside.
Just a straight line reverse required for a B Double combination test here in Australia. Although, I think the Brits have a harder reverse for their semi test. They have to do a reverse that starts off blind side and around post in the middle of the reverse area before diagonally heading for a parking bay.
I did great on all of my maneuvers except the parallel park. Even the dps lady said she saw no reason to have to do but I couldnt pass to the last part of the test without passing it
Love The video we don't do parallel parking in the UK but do our bay parking reversing around around cone first and with only around 2ft of space at rear hatch marking.
Driver-side parking is _always_ easier, but, if you're doing the blind side, your left-rear trailer wheels are your best friend. They are your guide, and you need to learn to estimate your position based only on where those wheels are in relation to the parking spot and the road/driving area/lane).
In Massachusetts you have to do the right side and its only 10' wide . Also you have to stop within 18" of the rear cones and you have to be within a foot of the cones on the side of the truck . This was years ago when I used to do the testing and a lot of people failed .
Yes, it might. Which is why I would turn into the box area when passing, turn hard left and hard right so that when I start reversing I'm at an angle. Something like 0:49 but without reversing to that position.
hi John, as described in the opening of the video the dimensions are 12 feet wide and 15 feet longer than the vehicle. I promise I'm not hiding anything on the other side of the truck. You can try waiting until the axles of the trailer another few feet in the box before you counter steer. hope it works out for you. thanks Chick.
It's a very bad way of training new drivers you just teaching them how to get the license but they don't really understand the articulation part of the vehicle to do it in the real world.
My instructor made us stop the truck each time we turned the wheel. I wonder if thats a Pennsylvania requirement or if its just how the instructor insist that we do it.
Since I have to stop each time I turn the wheel while parallel parking do I do the same steering methods while backing? My instructor claims the wheel should always be turned while parallel parking. I have 5 more weeks left until school and my graduation day from school is the day the actual test is taking place and I would like to pass it on the first attempt.
