Charming? You are too kind. The Witcher is *the* OG over rated game series, a game that suffers from huge design problems. Not ageing well at all, and a new coat of paint is just lipstick on a pig. Ten years from now, no one will play it unless they play it for the memories. Don't waste your money. It will sit in your library with 2.5 hrs on it for the next 50 years. Save you cash for something you will use. Reply
@joelwahlstedt
@joelwahlstedt Год назад
@@horrido666 You are right that the game suffers from big problems and has not aged very well (mainly character models imo) and i would not say it's a game for everyone. But to me and i think to many others it has, like I said before a certain charm, in the characters especially. Who were for the most part believable in their actions. A remake will more then likely adress the "huge design problems" and keep the parts that worked. I see the remake as a chance for people who don't want to play it because it's "old" to experience the characters and stroy they're missing out on. As for nostalgia/memories that might be the case for some people but i first played witcher 1 in 2021. And I completed it having played 60 hours and doing all quests. Because to me it was worth it to overlook the issues of the game to enjoy the characters and story. Ps I don't see how you can judge a remake as just "lipstick on a pig" when we haven't even seen a screnshot from it.

I love the first game. If your sharp enough you can see your pendent vibrate in the presence of a character, giving you a hint they are hiding something. I’m addition to all of your points, I really would love to see the possibility of reliving/playing through some of Geralt’s memories from the books like The Battle of the Bridge or Stygga Castle, maybe he remembers them slightly or someone recounts the events to him and we see them play out in real time. I feel like Geralt’s obliviousness about his past is both a key plot point of the first two games, but also a major plot hole. In the books, it’s frequently mentioned that people all over the continent have heard Dandelion’s tales of Geralt and Yennefer. But in the games, no one really ever mentions Geralt’s past, and it’s totally left for him to figure out on his own.

I played Witcher 1 (in polish Wiedźmin 1) in 2009 or 2010 (when I was about 12), I still remember how much I hated the swamps, sometimes I would get stuck in Wyzima not knowing where to go, or what to do to get the story moving. I spend HOURS aimlessly going around, I tried giving NPC random items just to try anything I could really. And so I ended up giving Bootblack (PL = Pucybut) a certain book from Talar, what a pleasant surprise that was! So yes I do recommend trying Witcher for yourself (even if the game comes short in gameplay, graphics etc.), I finished the game about 7 times by now, and am planning on doing it again before the remaster comes out. Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

what makes me worried, is that cdprs original press release to the public, was the phrase "Were making it for a modern audience", which they quickly edited out,but that just gives me the same vibes the witcher show writers give, who pretty much said "lets remake the whole story, kill off characters as jokes, and overall dont care about/mock the original source material so we can make it for a modern audience." in some of their interviews, since theyre basically all marvel fans. which eventually lead to the actor for geralt, henry cavill, wanting to leave, since hes a pretty knowledgeable fan of the books and some of the games and most likely didnt wanna sit and watch as his favorite characters from the books are butchered beyond belief.

When I first played 3 and not the others just a year or so ago. I found out about the first 2 and thought how cool it'd be to have the first 2 remade. I've seriously wanted that and now it's possible. Literally a dream come true. I do not see it bombing. I'm excited about all of it!

I really don't understand people disliking the first game's combat or gameplay in general. Why do even old games have to be modern masterpieces in the minds of low IQ, shallow modern players...? I really loved the atmosphere and the feel of the first game, played it when it came out, when I was in high school and it made me fall in love with Sapkowski's and CDPR's work completely.

Love the 1st game - imo it's the one that Nails The Witcher atmosphere conveyed by Sapkowski in the books, perfectly. While i do get your points, I'm not sure id like to see the Alvin/Ciri stuff addressed, seeing as, even as Alvin is a "Ciri surrogate" per se, he's also a sort of a cautionary tale, I don't know if changing that wouldn't dramatically change the tone and feel of the story. But then again, fleshing him out more wouldn't hurt, at all. Great job, as always, btw.

Worst scenario predictions: -Cut 90% of women Geralt can sleep with. No way the romance cards and scenes with Adda, the Lady of the Lake or White Rayla stay. -Order of the Flaming Rose will be a grotesque analogy for fascism. A Witcher 3 dev once said that everyone who sided with them is a fascist. Maybe they'll cut the option to side with them completely -Cut all instances of the non-human side committing atrocities and dial up the human racism more. All the racist humans will be white -20% of random NPCs will inexplicably be black even though it makes no sense for the worldbuilding, just like in the Netflix's The Witcher show. -Azar Javed will be race-swapped to a white guy cause having people of color as the bad guys is racist. -Triss and Shani will become vessels for radical woke feminists to propagate their ideology.

I agree with almost everything you said. I have to point out though that since the introduction of the Steam Deck, Witcher 1 can also be played on that format. The smaller screen makes for higher quality graphics (though granted, still not close to more modern games).

I feel that Witcher 4 promo image is actually a cat medallion buried in the snow. That which we see has different makings from both the classic wolf and cat medallions but it could look like either in a new stylish design either way. Plus it would open up new gameplay mechanics - for instance if CDPR does a Cyperpunk and gives us a character creator, female options would need to be a choice, and the Cat school is confirmed (in their lore) to train women and non-humans.

Great points! Thank you for analyzing this. I have this strong feeling, that the remake serves a second purpose: a testing of waters for the company's move to Unreal engine. A testing, that is very likely to bring in profits by the very nature of the franchise, will probably be ready by the time the new games will still be in pre-production, and even before that will clearly demonstrate to the company heads if they will be getting what they want from the Unreal engine.

I would definitely be interested in this project. I played through Witcher 1 all those years ago when it came out, tried 2 and got stuck and quit, and tried playing through 3 a couple times but never finished it. With the next-gen console update around the corner I am giving wild hunt the old college try again. Also, I saw a comment on a different video that resonated with me. I’d love to see a sort of spin off game where you get to create a character and play through a totally new story. Geralt is great but I also enjoy character creation and being able to have more influence on my avatar that way.

I also just had the idea that I’d be open to a Witcher spin off mmo. After all, Geralt is not the only Witcher. It might stretch the lore a bit, I’m no lore expert, but joining a couple other witchers to take down big monsters sounds fun.
