I am actually not scared of his smile. You know what you guys are not seeing? The smile of a person who is happy to share his knowledge. He is skilled. His skills can kill. But the smile that Cecep Arif Rahman is the same smile a teacher gives to students who are learning diligently from him. I do wish that at some point in our lives, we have teachers this dedicated and passionate and we learn from them.
Agreed. While yes, it might be disconcerting to see that smile in a back alley brawl, in a training or performance environment, it absolutely reads as the smile of a person who is in love with what they're doing, who loves sharing what they do with others.
In the last years, I've developed a deep friendship with an 85 years old man in Bali, the grandfather of a dear friend native of the island. This old and skinny man is indeed a silat expert, and sometimes, when I ask, he honours me showing some movements. Those two guys have something in common in the way they both smile and in the way they move. I wrote an article on Kaki, as I call my friend's grandfather, and shot him some pictures, but national geographic - the Italian one - wasn't interested. Those people have something more than normal people, and they should be respected like living monuments since they represent the highest points humanity can achieve in some of its cultural and athletic expressions. I wish good luck to all of them and I say thanks for sharing their art.
We run a small website about culture, out of India. Would you be interested in publishing? We can offer only token compensation, as you understand this is a hobby and the exchange rate is massive.
Beautifully said. Did you ever see Don Draeger's book "The Weapons and Fighting Arts of Indonesia"? If so, you may remember the pics of Pak Atma, a Cimande expert. Do you remember his smile and facial expression? There is a common thread, these folks are expressing something that is instantly recognizable yet mysterious, right?
I’m Chinese Malaysian and also into martial arts. Also very proud that Silat is getting well known globally. Thanks to Iko, Yayan and Cecep. They’re both Indons but nevertheless, martial arts unites us in the south East Asian region 😊
@@DenyPangestu dia bilang klo silat dari malaysia? Kang Cecep Arif is a true warrior, and he spends lot of his time to spread PENCAK SILAT to the people all over the world. He does not need fame, he just love Pencak Silat and he loves his country. Salam hormat dari Hamburg.
Smile is to show his politeness and refinement. This is quite normal in Indonesia: land of smiles. But don’t mess with him. Behind his smiling face, there is a fast as lightning deadly blows.
In pencak silat you are not only taught how to defend yourself barehanded or with weapons, more than that you are taught how to behave well and respect others. that's a true warrior in pencak silat. 🇮🇩
The smile gets me every time. I remember the teachers I was honoured to meet back in the days. They always had this smile when teaching techniques. Deadly stuff, delivered with a smile ;) Terimah Kasi Maha Guru
Alhamdulillah that am one of the silat practicioner, if u master the silat move its so beautiful yet very effective its like dancing but beating the opponent easily without effort..n so many movement also attacking the psychology of the opponent because after that move the opponent will feel embarassed n increasing their temper..n remember in a fight when u lose your temper thats it u no longer think its simply a blind attack which can be easily finished by the enemy..keep practicing the dance n once its becoming a muscle memory by then u dont think anymore on what should u do when the fight happend its simply flow like a water in the river..one of the most beautiful martial arts.. Luckily they only teach the basic which is enough to protect your self if they teach u the killer art..then trust me u will becoming one of the best assassin on any agency all over the world..salam from sumatra indonesia..
Very nice, I am a lone silat practitioner in Mexico, I take every technique I can find and apply it to my training, and I must say that is very effective when it comes to sparring, dedication and discipline is the key to success, cheers to Kang Cecep and thanks to Evan Tai.
Despite the traditional roots of Silat, I love how it seems to value practicality also. Most of this would be 100% viable in a streetfight, it shows aggression, manipulation of your opponent and their aggression, situational awareness and pragmatism in some aspects. Those are all traits of the most effective martial arts for practical self-defence. The only draw back is that this looks hard to learn, a challenge for certain, but a worthwhile one for any willing to learn.
Silat's on it's root was created for self defence in tight and confined spaces ( hot , humid and dense tropical jungles ) that is the very reason why it was aplicable in the modern street fight . I do not condone violence ... But , man has to have somerhing they could fall back on .
The last performance in this video by Cecep was beautiful beyond words. I could almost see him swinging in the heat of battle to the music of gushing blood.
@@aziremperorofthesands6369 Capoeria doesnt claim that it can be used to kill.... It is a dance martial art but still used by some MMA fighters. However silat is used on more compliant opponents which means it will not evolve to become better. For example a good fighter does not stick their hand out after a jab so the arm locks taught in older martial arts like silat and aikido will be useless.
@@gothickah0 istilah silat atau pencak silat di Indonesia tu... Orang masyarakat Indonesia sebut pencak silat itu nama resmi dan biasa di panggil silat.... Orang Malaysia sebut silat saja
Silat is very beautiful and deadly style in the world, I think. The style is unpredictable, fast, and elastic. I am proud silat is our National Martial art in Indonesia and now even more known globally. Saya kagum oey ama kang Cecep. Saya berharap pemerintah jua bisa menasionalisasi kan olahraga silat di tingkat sekolah-sekolah di Indonesia.
One of the most dangerous and well recommended martial arts /self defense for arm forces because it's practical and versatile. In short not for sports competition but for dissecting human being.
@@edilbertojrgerna4408 haha clearly u only know this man from hollywood and not the streets of jakarta where 100 million ppl lives and life worth nothing

🙏 Hormat Kang Cecep Truly influence me about Pencak Silat. Rahayu Jaya Jaya Wijayanti Seni Beladiri Pencak Silat. Let Pencak Silat well known world wide regardless races, tounge, and believes.
Cecep is an Indonesian artist who is a true teacher of pencak silat 🇲🇨 silat is one of the most anticipated martial arts that usually performs locks from hitting or leg and one thing about silat.Silat can have small weapons that you cannot see, namely kerambit. Karambit is one of the weapons that can injure the person it faces unless it is rubbed in the hand or around the neck. Now that's why people like silat in my country Don't underestimate silat or you can deal with it
Man, that Karabit training in this video is scary good, I love 💘 Silat, great training for smaller people against larger opponents. Silat is for combat, no trophies, no cages, no stardom. It's always the quiet unassuming ones you should look out for. Silat for freedom, Silat for life.
Bangga nih jadi orang Indonesia, suwun kang Yeyen beserta rekan-rekan. Semoga bisa jadi contoh bagi kaula muda untuk mencintai kebudayaan bangsa sendiri.

The masters that I have seen all have similar characteristics where they have a friendly smile and calm energy. But dont let that fool you since I know for a fact that when you piss off people with this kind of demeanor. You would wish to rather hide in the depths of hell, than get beat up but these guys
sangat bangga jadi orang indonesia,, dengan kang cecep membawa seni bela diri ke negara luar salut kang cecep semoga sukses dan sehat terus Amin aminn....
Most silat training is live action role playing against compliant opponents. I trained extensively all throughout Indonesia between 1974 and 1982 - culminating in taking Gold at the inaugural World Silat Championships in Jakarta. The only athletes that made it past the first round, were one that did bagwork, roadwork and daily sparring - the rest were wiped out with little to no ceremony.
itulah keunikan pencak silat karena semuanya terpadu jadi satu seperti taichi.wingchun.kungfu.tekwondo.jetkhundo. terimakasih para master di seluruh Nusantara yg selalu melestarikan seni budaya beladiri dan mudah"han selalu di berikan kesehatan
@@SZA-fv5lq he is sundanese blood, but he adopt some west sumatra styles like when he using karambit for example, in indonesia so many styles from different area, but still 1 root
@@SZA-fv5lq some says silat originally came from indonesia, while the others said from malaysia, actually, both nations created silat...coz before european colonized both countries, indo and malay were 1 family
I call silat to be an Martial art of intent. It is mostly done and executed beautifully with people who are discipline, observant , calculating and good imagination and excellent muscle memory. When you truly needs it, intent must be heightened, there is no room for ambivalence. It is not meant to be a sport.
Very well said, in fact, Pencak Silat was mainly used to fight off the colonizer back in the day before Indonesia's independence, it could be learned as a sport, but it is an effective and deadly style of killing
@@user-zr3vh4xl7i No need wonder, because indeed Keanu himself said that he is respect this silat guy. This thing was also happened with Iko Uwais in Taichi Master.
@@harrychrisbanoe4870 U may ask that question to Bruce lee, why he adopted silat in JKD system. His friend, Dan Inasanto who also Silat practioner told about that.

Well silat is more combative system success bring glory to Majapahit, until the great war lord create new system called Kali, but today only remaind in Philipine. Silat developed more during Dutch and European colonialism, made the local resistant modified to close combat, dealing with bayonet attached to rifle. Every martial arts in this world created to deal with who they fight, what weapon they are used, and what armor. You should also modified for your MMA if you want to learn silat
